I think the goaltending situation is slightly better as is the defense (if they keep Byram). I think Forwards are the same (for different analytical reasons) to slightly worse. I do not think this is a playoff team - remember they’d have to be 16 points or so better than last year and, for the most part, the teams immediately on front of them in the standings got betters. so, I would imagine the team ends up in the mid to high 80s, doesn’t make the playoffs, Adams and Ruff aren’t retained, Jaro Becomes GM and choices his own coach

If we do still intend on trading Byram (I would not) what teams do we think are still in the mix/could give us a good return. With the prices d are getting in UFA, I wouldn’t trade him without a very good return + Orlov is really the last UFA I’d be interested in and he may be fading If we could sign Suter and Orlov I wouldn’t might getting a 1st round pick + for Byram given the market and available players I’m re-upping Byram (who has very good stats with Dahlin) and signing a winger who can play top 6: Suter, Ehlers (pipe dream), nyquist

Yep esp millers and ceci’s. Granlund I thought was going to get $6m per so he’s not that out of line. Ehlers will prob get $9m or more, which is a pipe dream for us. Hoping for Suter for us, maybe 2 years 4.5 - 5 per re-up Byram 2 for 13m, Timmins 2 for 4m, sign Suter 2 for 9m, leaves us with 1m or so cap space, call it an offseason and I think most of us would be happy

I think if we hadn’t known about Lyon ahead of time it would are a little feel good. It’s about what I expected today but was holding out hope I think what we can expect is 1. a trade of Byram for a top 6 forward while signing a decent d to play with Dahlin 2. Trade Byram for futures and sign a decent forward and decent d 3. re-up Byram and sign a decent top g lw/c anything less makes no sense unless they’re tanking

You write like Byram being here is a bad thing. I think it’s fine as he plays well with Dahlin. I’m more than okay with keeping Byram and signing Lyon. All that would be left to do is sign a LW like Granlund or suter

Same could be said if Lyon signs with us immediately. I imagine the gm’s talk “generalities” with the agents well before noon today. “Would your LW from Dallas entertain offers from Buffalo today at noon.” If not move on to suter in Vancouver, if so “great you might see an offer for 2 years 12 million from us at lunchtime. talking generalities without naming names

To add to this Rust plays RW which we don’t need as we have Tage and Tuch there. Should only be looking at centers or LWers. Granlund and suter are perfect fits: solid Character guys who put up nice point totals - these should be the targets

Rust’s NMC ends today, wondering if we see a Byram for Rust trade? Not my favorite idea: creates a hole on D and adds to the strong RW pool while not adding to C or LW where we need a talent infusion

Lyon

WGR is reporting it as more of a sure thing - Lyon is the guy FLA rode into the playoffs - couple of years ago. He’s a solid player who can push UPL, better than Reimer - maybe better than UPL tbh. Won’t cost much, expected contact 2 years 1.8m per year. Bunched with samsonov and Georgiev as the 2nd best goalie available behind Allen. He’s definitely my 2nd favorite behind Allen and Allen will cost between 2 and 3x, so should be a good value signing
