  1. Eh, I don't think it hurts us. Takes a good goalie out of our division, and the Devils aren't in a win now situation to really be active in the goalie market. They'd sign a cheap vet before paying out for a goalie. And I'm pretty confident we don't make a move for a goalie anyway.
  2. I had the same thought. But I'd imagine their TV partners would be throwing fits over forfeited games. Lost revenues would make that a last, last resort.
  3. Tage can have a tendency to try to do too much with the puck. I've seen other younger players like that really simplify their game and excel when playing with clearly better player. I think there's a lot of potential if Tage could do the same.
  4. I'm really surprised KeyBank didn't throw them a few bucks to put their logo on the helmets.
  5. They talk about that at the 28 minute mark for those curious. They mention names but don't go into detail on why they don't have Cozens in that 'most NHL ready' group. I enjoy hearing Burke's opinions on their show, so I'm curious what his reasons are there. I think there's little harm in starting Cozens out in a limited role in the NHL akin to Dach as people have mentioned. And I think he should be ready for that. But there's always the chance that he struggles and looks in over his head. There's just no way to know until we try it.
  6. I typed up a very similar post before reading this. My best guess with Eakin is that they like the flexibility he provides them. If you get an injury in the top six, Eakin would be a more suitable fill in offensively than Larsson. Or if someone like Asplund plays himself into the defensive line center role, Eakin could easily be pushed to that younger sheltered offensive line.
  7. The thing that I haven't been able to understand here is Eakin. By all indications, Krueger intends to use him in the same role as Larsson last year. Prototypical fourth line, probably third line by minutes played. If that was the plan all along, why spend more money on Eakin when Larsson did a stellar job in that same role? It would make sense if Larsson just wasn't interested in returning, but his brother said that wasn't the case. I'm sure there is a thought process behind it, I'm just curious what it is.
  8. Next year he does. He's still one year shy of the 'professional seasons' threshold for waivers.
  9. Off the top of my head: Reinhart+ for PLD Miller+ for Roslovic That's an EA Sports trade tree that has no likelihood of happening, but it's fun to think about.
  10. Good luck to Botts. He was definitely in over his head here, but he seemed like a decent guy who was really trying to build a winner. Hopefully this was a positive learning experience that he can use to better himself moving forward.
  11. From those of us stuck at work, I appreciate all of you for the live commentary.
  12. Looks like another RD coming off the market. So for those still hoping we move one of ours, now we're only waiting on Vatanen to find a home before trades could possibly come into play.
  13. I'd imagine the price for PLD would be Cozens and then some. He looked phenomenal for Columbus in the playoffs last year. Even if we could make the cap work, I don't think we'd like the price for him.
  14. Loved Grier as a player, thanks for the link. It's great to see him having success on the coaching side as well. Must be pretty cool for him to already have been in the Devils organization when they brought in Ruff.
  15. Then what do you do with a player who is signed for multiple years with a career ending injury? I don't like the idea of teams filing to terminate the contracts of injured players, and the NHLPA would surely have a fit at that idea.
  16. Definitely looked like he messed up a finger from his body language. Pulled off his glove, took a look, and went straight to the room.
  17. I forgot just how good of a skater Ryan Johnson. Not a ton of ice time that period, but he's so smooth out there.
  18. Seems like the requirement will be 3 goalies combined between the roster and taxi squad. So in Arizona's case, there's really no reason to risk waivers on Hill, you'd just keep him on the active roster. Agreed that money is still probably their driving force, that and recouping draft picks. But it sure would have been nice to have a waivers problem putting a timer on them as well.
  19. I think the Arizona goalie dream starts to fizzle with this requirement. This takes away any pressure the Yotes had to move a goalie, keeping all three on the active roster costs them nothing extra and is no worse than having one on the taxi squad. They probably would still like to move Raanta for financial reasons, but they'll be happy to wait as long as it takes to get a decent return.
  20. Even after that cut, the revenue split for this season won't be close to 50/50 from what I've heard. The players collectively will owe the owners a substantial amount of money that people seem concerned may carry through the rest of the CBA. I'm curious if the CHL transfer agreement still applies to the taxi squad. It is effectively being treated as an extension of the AHL roster, so would guys like Quinn be barred from joining the taxi squad? Not that I think that's good idea for Quinn, but I'm curious what the ruling there is.
  21. To be fair, there shouldn't be anything wrong with openly speculating on trade ideas in a thread titled "trade rumors and speculation". I'd imagine many of us spend time here in the off-season because we enjoy talking about moves the team could make or players we'd like them to target. I don't have an issue with people posting rumors from less than credible sources, it can generate interesting discussion even if the rumor is bogus. But I do think it would be beneficial to give a bit of a disclaimer if you're going to do that, just to separate the 'real' from the fake.
