Who will be the next Head Coach of the Buffalo Sabres?
Flashsabre replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
I don’t even know where to begin. He took rosters that should have been nowhere near contenders and went to ECFs and a Stanley Cup Final. He could adapt to the roster he had. He was a tremendous coach. I don’t think he is the answer now -
What is Mike’s obsession with Pegula talking? How many owners from other organizations hold press conferences? The only one I can think of is Mr Ego Jerry Jones.

The Peca situation is a head scratcher. You mean you really needed Ellis on the bench that badly? Christie was a Granato guy but Ellis should have been shuffled elsewhere. -

As I said if you don’t like a candidate you can knock them down. I mean Brunette went to Nashville and fell on his face to the point the GM stepped in and took away their trip and galvanized them and they went on a big run to get them into the playoffs. They sputtered down the stretch so we will see how the playoff go for Nashville. I like Brunette but he was not the sole reason for NJ’s success. This year NJ had major injuries Hamilton) and god awful goaltending. They didn’t improve when Green took over. Do I think it should be Lindy, no. Do I think it will be Lindy, probably. If it is him then they need really good assistants. Would love Jeep to join him and get a really good offensive mind as the other assistant. -

There is no perfect candidate. Any name brought up can easily be torn down by someone who doesn’t care for them. Gallant: doesn’t play a structured system. Rangers players asked for a change to a more structured coach. Known as a players coach Berube: only win a Cup because Bennington stood on his head. Boudreau: not a hard ass, flames out in the playoffs Woodcroft: couldn’t get his team to buy in defensively, Knoblouch took over and did McLellan: has flamed out numerous places. Turned down an opportunity here Quenneville: not allowed to coach by the league for. obvious reasons Lindy: NJ was only good because of another coach Babcock: Yikes etc etc going just by Adams words you would think Lindy and Berube would be the coaches of interest. another name of interest to me is Guy Boucher who has done a great job on the bench with the Leafs, especially the PP. Everyone today would take Rick Tocchet in a heartbeat. But look at his coaching record before this season. Only made the playoffs once and was ousted in the first round. -
He’s a hard nosed coached that demands accountability. He has a good record overall and lead the Blues to a Cup. Here is an interview with him after the Blues missed the playoffs for the first time under him. His answers line up with what Adams talked about and wants: https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/st-louis-blues/featured/blues-coach-craig-berube

Give me Berube. He is the coach this team needs right now. If it is Lindy he better come with James Patrick to make it more palatable for me. I expect some more grit and sandpaper added in the summer via trade and ufa. Some vet leaders. Is they are drafting #11 please trade the pick for someone who can help now. -

If that is proven true than the NHL won’t let him back in any way shape or form. -
The interesting name is Sullivan in Pittsburgh but he signed a massive deal and helped in the search for the GM (Dubas) so I don’t know where he stands. Adams and Brindamour are friends so if he knew Brindamour was leaving then he would have a different tune and say he is waiting for the playoffs to end.

Thanks. I don’t think any coach worth his salt is allowing Adams to saddle them with Ellis and Wilford

What happened was awful but how did Quenneville directly ruin the kid’s career? The coaching staff at the AHL level and Bowman as GM would have been more directly involved. It should have been handled way differently from an organizational standpoint. All I’m saying is Quenneville was disciplined by the league and if they decide to reinstate him as some sources seem to think, he will be sought after as he is an excellent coach. If he is available the Sabres should talk to him. -

I think Brindamour is extended already in Carolina. Berube brings exactly what Adams was spewing today: experience, structure, fire, Cup champion Quenneville is the wildcard. He made a mistake and paid the price. He has apparently taken all the steps to improve himself. He has paid his debt and will get a second chance. I think it should be in Buffalo. Brings everything Adams is looking for. Ruff is the low hanging fruit and the least desirable choice but does add what Adams wants. Gallant and Boudreau are not known for structure. Berube or Quenneville are the hopes, Ruff is the fallback expectation. It will be interesting because Adams sounded like his ass is in the fire now. I would expect some trades and signings this summer that are outside his comfort zone. -
Sounds like Lindy or Quenneville or Berube hire is incoming

What is Adams going to say today? If it is about taking the next step than it can’t be Appert. Is he going to Atleast BS U.S. by throwing out the idea of an actual coaching search? I mean Sullivan could shake loose in Pittsburgh. Guys like Berube, Quenneville, Boudreau, Gallant are all itching to get back behind a bench. Brindamour is the unicorn dream right now. If all that experience and talent is out there and they just go Appert than Terry’s pocket book is closed, the internal cap is staying and the future sucks.

Brindamour is my 1A choice and Quenneville is 1b, Beurube 3rd. Quenneville has taken a lot of steps to meet with people and try to better himself. He’s itching to get back behind the bench. 3 Cups, would be able to help attract high level coaches for his staff and players on the ice. Someone will give him a second chance and be happy they did. Might as well be Buffalo. -

Why are people so fixated on Peca? Was assistant coach in Rochester and now assistant for the Rangers. We don’t know how good he will eventually be but now is not the time for another first time coach.
