I don't think Libya is going to effect Obama's re-election, but make no mistake, his day of reckoning is coming on it. His adminstration left an embassy lightly guarded in a war zone. His administration and his State Department did that and there will be a political price to be paid. Someone will eventually lose their job over this. Someone should. This is a failure of government.

So I did watch the whole Obama-Christie press conference live yesterday. I heard what I heard. I just ate a snickers bar, so I'm much better now. :-) NBC Nighltly News leading off comparing Staten Island to Katrina.. Here it comes... Day three. Staten Island Borough Chief asks why city is preparing for Marathon while they're pulling bodies out of houses still.. This is going to boil over..

So the impending disaster that is Ohio. Ohio gave out 1.2M ballots for early voting. Just over half have been returned. So if you got one, didn't fill it out and show up on election day, they will give you a provisional ballot to vote with. They won't count provisional ballots until 10 days after election. So there may be 600,000 votes to be counted. If Ohio is close, and it appears to be, we may not ave a winner on election night. What a train wreck.

I still extend the courtesy. Nothing f's up the day quicker than getting a ticket... I do what I can...

I'm looking for meaningful actions, not sound bites. Yesterday he mentioned electricity. So what exactly is his adminstration doing to help get the lights turned on? That is the message he needs to deliver to these areas. Not, you will be stronger. What is he doing for West Virginia today? Tell us.. What are you doing to get water out of the tunnels. I suspect a lot. Tell us... Show us the actions, not the contrite BS about being stronger. He is campaigning today. He is more worried about his own skin today that those folks in Brigantine. They were yesterday's agenda item.. Shed a tear in front of the cameras, check.
-
I know I will not win this argument, but that is your expectation of his job, My expectation is for him to show more than 8 hours of caring in front of the cameras. If you really believe that is his job to do, why is he not in NYC today doing the same thing? Why is he not in West Virginia tomorrow? Why is he not in Delaware or Maryland (other than to sleep :-). Poor Connecticut, you don't get a crack at the President. Guess only Jersey matters for the Symbolic Presidency. Where is the great Symbolic President today? Why he is campaigning for his j-o-b instead of doing his j-o-b. Symbolic, why I say yes. Does it suck that he is the middle of a race? Why yes it does. But that IS the j-o-b he signed up for. Personally, I think he can be more effective running things from DC than he can from fund raisers and campaign stops. He shouldn't be worried about Romney today, but that is exactly what he is. And in case you think this is all an anti-Democratic rant, I still intend to vote for him. I just expect way more than that circus act yesterday. The Presidency doesn't have to be Symbolic unless you let it be,,
-
I want him to do his j-o-b. I honestly don't see the value of him touring the scene of the destruction. It's all symbolic. His government is doing everything already. Yesterday was nothing more than a photo op.
-
Risk reward...
-
I know they do.. I'm just sick of it.. It turns into a photo op for the President and little else.
-
I though tthat meant slow down, there's a cop with radar... Not enough people extend that simple courtesy anymore...

So Obama was in Jersey yesterday telling people they would "come back stronger". Am I the only one who gets bothered by this rhetoric? You have just gone through an incredibly destablizing event. Your house is gone, you're in a shelter, your bank account is taking it on the chin, your job may be gone. How does one come back stronger? At best, you are lucky to hang on to the threads of your life. It strikes me as such BS to stand up there and look at people whose life has just been decimated to say, you will be stronger. Meanwhile, he jumps back on his chopper and has all the accoutrements of his job, and these folks go back to the shelter and eat an MRE and worry about how they will get through tomorrow. You are about to enter a protracted battle with your insurance company over whether your damage is wind or water. Is it really that big a comfort to know that you can fill out a form to get a loan? I'm also bothered by the reporting from yesterday. Instead of focusing on why Christie and Obama were at the shore, all the press can report on today is their bromance.
-
Seems like every battleground poll has Obama with a slight lead. I think it is slowly but surely slipping away from Romney.
-
Not to mention all that salt water in the electrical system underground....
-
I predict many Jersey voters will be preoccupied on election day and won't vote. The Republicans plan to suppress voters will never have been more obvious as they deliver a storm in the heart of Obama voter country. There will be enough suppression of Democratic votes that Jersey will flip red sending the race in chaos.... Chris Christie adulation will reach a fever pitch and spill over on to the Republican ticket.... hey it could happen,.......
-
So true.. But it doesn't change the fact that we are a bi-coastal population drawn to water.... It breaks my heart to see what has happened to the Jersey Shore. My family history is very intertwined with Ocean City, NJ. It was by my metrics a perfect vacation town. It is beyond my comprehension to see the scale of the loss from Toms River to Cape May.

To be fair, he didn't say he wanted to privatize FEMA. He did say if some of the response could be off loaded to local and business, great. Interesting, Obama said the almost the same thing yesterday. So is Obama also recommending privatizing FEMA?
-
Nice..
-
The first day of the response is never the issue. Let's see where we are on say Saturday. So they are going to restore Wall Street before apartments. Those are the decisions that make politics interesting.

Cell phones still work..

Didn't realize The Cigarman lost the Popular vote. Didn't realize that it was this common...
-
So I don't disagree with the mandate discussion. I do wonder how one governs when more people voted against you than for you.
-
I think Romney should come out today and recommend a one week delay in the election in deference to the votes effected by Sandy. Would be a good PR move...
-
Bush wasn't a legit President until his mid term elections when he whomped the Dems. That was the height of the Rove machine. ===== Feast of the Sacrifice... Oh the irony..
-
So here's something to chat about: If Obama wins but loses the Popular Vote, will he be considered a legit President? He will clearly govern without a mandate. I say his second term will be a lame duck term from the get go.
