Agreed. Plus, didn't he play a *****-ton of hockey last season? No need to shorten this offseason for him, even if only for a week or so.

Heard a funny line this morning. "If Tom Brady and Derrick Henry were able to have a baby together, it would be Josh Allen".
-
Years ago when I lived in NJ I had the opportunity to go to Flushing Meadows to see some earlier matches of the US Open. They were still playing on some of the side courts so I was able to get an up close view. I recall being absolutely blown away by the speed and movement (especially) that the players can generate on a tennis ball. And these weren't even the the Top 10 or 20 players. Seeing it on television does not do it justice at all in that regard.

Been hearing and reading a lot lately about Josh Allen's progression as a quarterback. QB's get better with games played. They see more, experience more, learn more. Confusion evaporates over time. Nothing groundbreaking there. But what gets me really excited about watching JA in the years to come?
I'll leave you with this: Career Games Played to Date
Tom Brady - 302
Aaron Rodgers - 197
Josh Allen - 62

Regarding @Taro T's question in the old thread about Sam Martin's punting stats in altitude. There was some data posted over at TSW saying the difference was about 0.5 yards per punt. Doesn't seem to be a significant difference especially when influenced by the number of times a punter is trying for the 'inside the 20' kick.
Regardless, given the number of times he will be punting its likely not an appreciable difference in total yards over the course of the season. In fact, I have it on good authority that he will have his own seat on the sidelines this year.

I've read that three times now trying to understand, thinking I'm missing something obvious. WTF does that parenthetic question even mean? What's its purpose? Remove it and Graham is reporting the Bills have reached out to Kern. Have they, or not? TG is a complete tool IMO. (And not just for this).

What immediately strikes me about that video clip was how strong and clear RJ's voice was back then.

I'm sitting on 75 shares of Abbvie at $79, paying me $1.49 per share quarterly... I bought it years ago and it took off... If it drops further I will add.
👆 The way its supposed to be done. And the opposite of what the majority do (#emotions). Hang in there!

I manage my and my wife's IRAs with a subscription service
I use TD Ameritrade as a brokerage.
If your interested in Dividend /REITs as a portfolio strategy I can Highly recommend 2 news letters. Having these 2 newsletters cost me about $800 a year... My strategy is to save about $1 million and to have that $1 million pay me about 4% a year. Many of the dividend companies I invest in raise that dividend one a year. Some every 2 years, a few haven't made a change. Most of stocks recommended have fantastic balance sheets and good money flow to maintain the dividends.
The 2 newsletters I use are iReit, featuring Brad Thomas, and Dividend Kings which has a few contributors. Both are located at
I have been using these 2 service for a few years. They are very active and produce updated spreadsheets with more info that you will ever need. I plan on staying with them till I become to old to manage my own accounts.
I have a 401k at work and there is a company that manages that for me, but every year I transfer what ever I can to my IRA's.
The market took a beating and my accounts are down from their peak, but I don't care because the dividends haven't changed. Right now With just under $300k in my IRA's I make over $1000 a month average in dividends. I re-invest my dividends since I'm only 53 and buy more dividend stocks that are recommended, or since the market is down I add to my existing holdings@ddarylthis is such an effective and productive way to turn current assets into future income because of the compounding effect of reinvestment plus rising dividend payouts. The bolded is why its not utilized more, unfortunately. Focus on the income - as you well know and do.
For anyone who might be interested, here is an example. In 2013 you purchased 100 shares of Abbvie (ABBV) at $52. It was paying a quarterly dividend totaling $1.60 per year (~3% dividend yield). In this the 10th year you would now own, through reinvestment, ~130 shares that will pay a $5.64 per share dividend. The key thing is the annual distribution rate on the original investment. $733 income on a $5200 .... or ~14%. And likely to continue rising.

No worries NS. All good. I'm sure in your profession you must see via your clients' 1099s a lot of questionable, if not unscrupulous, investment activity. Sadly.

No need. This was peripherally a hockey related thread to begin with. Didn't intend to take it further off the rails. And won't continue to. Let's get back to hockey.

Nothing. Except find ways for the very wealthy to become even more wealthy. Financial advisory is a scam. If they were all so great advisors would they not all be wealthy and retired? I expect they spend a lot of time sourcing tax dodge sceams too.
@Sabres Fan in NS This is an erroneous broad based criticism. Every single one of my 190 clients would vehemently disagree with you. (I just 'outed' myself).

Yeah, that's the sentence that tells me absolutely nothing about what the company does.
@Eleven , I assume you are an attorney - either a sole practitioner or part of a firm. You are the one who interacts with the clients but there are other people that clients rarely, if ever, see that perform other necessary activities in support your firm's operation. In advisory firm parlance, those other people are 'back office support'. There's a lot that goes on there particularly with respect to custody, trading, regulatory and compliant matters among many others.
The numbers are interesting. If the stated goal is $40B in assets and the advisory firms charge 1% (to make numbers round) then by Bison Wealth charging the advisory firms 10% for back office support (again for simplicity) its revenue will be $40M annually. If it's cost to provide that support is $20 - 30M that's a healthy margin. I'm not sure what competitive advantage Bison Wealth can provide over existing firms in that business. They feel like they've figured it out, obviously.

The Blackhawks won 3 Stanley Cups, so I would say that the Kane, Toews, Keith and Seabrook deals worked out OK for them. Yes, they are now rebuilding, but with 3 Cups, who cares? And had the Sabres extended Drury and Briere properly, perhaps they, too would have won a Cup. The key is to extend guys before they become UFAs and have all the leverage. Skinner was a UFA coming off a 40-goal season, after previously having been a top 10 pick, Rookie of the Year and multiple 30+ goal seasons. This board tends to ignore the fact that while Skinner may not be a $9M player, he is a $6M-$7M player - at least pre- and post-Kreuger - so his deal is not a complete waste. An overpay by a (then) crap team with enough cap space that needed to retain a star player, yes, but not that outrageous when looked at in full context. Okposo is another guy who was an overpay, but sometimes teams need to overpay to attract top free agents to smaller markets and/or less-competitive teams. The current version of Okposo is actually playing close to his contract with 20+ goals, and lots of leadership and intangibles. He's a big reason the team has come together the way it has.
So, yes, I think the Sabres need to extend some of the young, talented guys, even if it invovles some level of risk. By signing them early, if the guys pan out, the deals will be bargains down the road. No doubt, some won't work out as well as others.
One more overlooked point is that NOW is a good time to sign these deals. The Sabres currently have a lot of cap space and with the ESPN deal and the "end" of the pandemic, the NHL is likely to gain quite a bit in popularity and make a lot more money in the next few years. The salary cap is likely to go up a lot, which will result in much more lucrative deals for players. Better to sign them now before the cap increases and the cost of labor increases with it.
@msw2112 I agree with the general premise of this post. I do wonder about the bolded however. How much influence do past championships have on the present psyche of fans? (We can only speculate, unfortunately). Do they look at their teams and say 'Yeah, we really suck. But we won a cup back when I was 6 years old so its OK'? Would love to have that conversation with Blackhawk fans, Canadiens fans, etc, etc.

Rainbow, Whirlpool and LQ bridges circa 1975. 40 cents for car and driver, 10 cents for each additional passenger. I guess that got changed when people were getting stuck in the trunks of cars trying to save a dime. 🤑

Don't have the login credentials for the Athletic on this machine, so can't link to the article (behind a paywall anyway). But if you have a subscription to the Athletic there's a GREAT article today about Levi and some of his mental preparations & the overall work he puts into the game.
It's a very good read and just makes it appear all the more that he has that "it" factor. Can't wait to see him in B&G.
Absolutely. Read the article over breakfast this morning. That boy is wired for greatness.

Re: Tage Thompson. The comps (age, position, 'breakout season', '21-22 production) to Josh Norris in Ottawa are very similar. Norris just got 8x$7.95M.

I guess I could just print the roster at home next time. In the past, at dev camps and training camps they have always had rosters at the rink.
Lesson learned.
Just make sure Jeremy Davies doesn't steal your printer. I hear he needs one. (crossing threads).

@LGR4GM you touch on a point I've always been curious about. How aligned (or misaligned) are the goals of the development people of the big club versus those of the minor league teams the kids play for as it relates to the prospects? Different motivations and objectives?
