I have the same reaction that I had with the Thompson contract:  Adams can't hit home runs if he doesn't swing for the fences.  Let's just hope he's not swinging at a nasty curve here; Thompson had a larger body of work to evaluate.

I look at this comparison in the context of what our college hoops coach used to say .... "you are going to have an off day shooting but there's no excuse for an off day playing defense". The things Muel has shown are not likely to deteriorate as long as he keeps putting in the work.

Attached is a 20 min. WGR interview with Don Granato on the Jeremy and Howard Show. If someone else posted this link on this topic or another, I apologize for the redundancy. Granato talked about the Okposo and the captaincy. On that same subject he talked about Dahlin and his leadership, competiveness and the respect he has from his teammates. His response to the goaltending situation was simply I don't know for sure until the season starts. He pointed out that the Sabres are one of the youngest teams in the league, and because of that he anticipates this team getting better as the season goes on.

Granto is enjoyable to listen to. He doesn't shrink from answering tough questions by answering in meaningless coach babble. He's an understandable communicator.

Totally agree. Having listened to a few of his press conferences since the pre-season began, I find his answers to questions to be clear, simple and insightful. Listening to his predecessor while on that staff must have been gut-churning to DG.

In my working life I don’t think I have met a person raised on a farm who I didn’t like.

They are early for work, strong, have a great work ethic and don’t mind getting dirty.

These are valued qualities in the world of tradespeople.

These should be valued qualities in ANY workplace. And those who don't value them (and sadly there are many) are the ones with the problem.

Every decent team has this situation.  There is more to leading than wearing a letter.

Agree.  Harrington can go self soothe himself.  It’s not about him.

Can't speak for every other team. And @Pimlach I wholeheartedly agree with the second statement. If my post came across as anything other then I didn't make myself clear. My only point was that we we will have many leaders on this team, if not now then in the very near future, and there's only 3 letters to go around. And that will hopefully help the Sabres become much better than just decent.

Last year ESPN+ had all Sabres games that were not nationally televised.  You just get blacked out if you are in the home or away market of the team they are playing. Not sure where Sarasota would fall in that blackout rule.

    This year COULD be different.

I live 97 miles west of Boston and the Sabres-Bruins games are blacked out on ESPN+ (and don't get NESN on Hulu). Apparently I'm in the Bruins' 'home market'. I feel so dirty. 😏 @Believer, Sarasota will surely have Lightning games blacked out by ESPN+ and possibly the Panthers too. Maybe available on local cable (ie, Bally Sports).

Hockey Viz projected 86pts. And still had us finishing near where we finished last season.

So if this happens as spelled out, are we (not to you specifically @Weave) happy with this result? 11 point improvement but no move up the East rankings.

FTR, I expect 85 - 90 points but no playoffs. I'll enjoy watching them most nights, be pleased with the improvement, and comfortable knowing they'll be a perennial playoff team with higher aspirations than just that starting the following season.

Not only that, the D has pitched a shutout in the 2nd 1/2 of both games.  (Actually, they're outscoring the opposition 7-0 in the 2nd 1/2 so far.  Fun.  😉 )

I wanted to bump and update @Taro T's observation from a couple weeks ago. Through the first four games of the season the Bills D has given up a total of 7 second half points. Considering the quality of the offenses they've played and the magnitude of the injuries they've dealt with on D, this is nothing short of incredible.

  8. Watching Power I'm trying to figure out how to describe his game at this point. Someone upthread said 'calm'. He's very solid right now but that seems to be understating his play. He's excellent with the puck when pressured. An excellent passer as far as I can tell. Probably won't see the 'wow' plays like we see occasionally from Dahlin but can definitely contribute in the offensive zone. Might he actually be better than Dahlin in three or four years? And ironically, after the early comparisons of Dahlin to Hedman, might it actually be Power who turns out to be a closer facsimile of Victor Hedman? The kid is just super impressive.

I think the Bengals are an average football team that got lucky last year.  Miami takes that one.

Agree. Probably a little better than average but Miami's front, like seemingly every team the Bengals play, will give Burrow problems. He'll be a human punching bag by the time the Bills see him in December.

  10. I just wonder/worry that the after-effects of the game yesterday will alter this week's preparations. Practices adjusted and more players being 'limited' for some extra rest and recuperation. I've been in those circumstances. These guys are going to wake up tomorrow morning and still not feel good.
