  1. RIP Chuck. His jazz music stunningly hit the pop charts in 1977 and got a lot of air time. It was refreshing change for me personally and it opened new doors. There was a time when my music consumption was >90% rock/pop. After hearing this record I started to listen to jazz and I used to regularly see Spyro Gyra perform live at the original Tralfamadore Cafe in Buffalo. My record collection took on a new and more diverse direction. While Chuck's jazz music may never be called influential from a pure jazz perspective, it actually was for me. Chuck's hit record took me to artists like George Benson, Chick Corea, Weather Report and jazz/rock fusion. After awhile I explored all forms of jazz going back to Charlie Parker, Miles and Coltrane, Brubeck, etc.
  2. Not really a complaint but just thinking and maybe thinking too much. Add human greed plus human badness plus AI and it is a scary world our grandkids to grown up in.
  3. Yes, hiring Jarmo is a step in the right direction. He brings in very good experience as a Scouting Direct and as a GM. He brings in a fresh perspective and respect from the league. Whether he gets to make an impact or whether he stays is TBD. The bigger question is should he be working for Adams? Seems to me like it should be the other way around. Jarmo is the GM and Adams is on his staff learning from him - of course that will not happen since Adams has been at the helm for 5+ years now.
  4. In other words, you have to try to be this bad.
  5. There are so many reasons for the losing. To me this kind of disfunction starts at the top - Terry and Kim were way over their heads and never trusted anyone qualified to run the team. They tanked and built a confusing and bloated organization right from the start, they hired bad GMs, then they leaned it down too far and continued to hire unqualified people in key positions. The player trades, the drafts, the poor contracts, the losing - it’s all a result of what has happening at the top. PS EDIT: I should not say never trusted. They did hire Black, LaFontaine, Murray, Patrick, Batista, etc., during the tank years. This proved to be a bloated and dysfunctional organization, led by Terry.
  6. Full disclosure, my Sabbath fandom lasted only a few albums and then I got much deeper into so many other music styles that "metal" as a genre never crept further into my record collection. I do not consider the early Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin to be metal either, although others refer to them in that genre. RIP Ozzy.
  7. Funny you mention this. I was talking to a friend in Seattle just yesterday and he mentioned the odds of the Sabres missing playoffs for 14 years is insanely small and he laughed at the ineptness of it all.
  8. To be fair, label this the "Pegula Era Playoff Performance Chart"
  9. Never will forget the first time I heard Black Sabbath. That first album, Paranoid, was played at ear bleeding levels. I knew that record after just a few spins.
  10. No complaints from me on bringing in some more aggressive players or Jarmo. I liked the players that the Blues drafted when Jarmo was their Scouting Director. Someday a few of these players might pay off.
  11. These videos used to be fun. Not anymore.
  12. He can’t seem to get the vets that have mileage left. Zucker may be the exception so far.
  13. Adam’s supports Appert. Terry supports Ruff. Terry does not like paying people when they are on contract. Rumor has it they could not land assistant coaches that they wanted.
  14. What am I missing? I saw 55 seconds of cliches, none of the above is in the video?
  15. By trading Peterka he put a lot of eggs into the Kesselring basket, he is expected to not just play in the top 4, but to improve the top 4. I sure hope he can kill penalties and give us 20-21 minutes.
  16. Can you expand on the poor facilities? I get it on the HSCB, it’s dark, it’s quiet, and it’s below par in many ways. But isn’t the Harbor Center and its facilities considered a good asset?
  17. Buffalosabres.com does not show actuall reporting structure. No doubt that Terry hired Lindy so your understanding is probably correct. It shows Jarmo as Senior Advisor, but to who? It should be Adams.
  18. Was hoping it was WNY this summer. He is in Buffalo in October but I’m not sure I’ll be here then.
  19. I went to Vancouver and Victoria and then came back to Seattle. Next I will go from Buffalo to NOTL and then back the week after next. I’m living my life. I’m not afraid of crossing in either direction. I have nothing to hide and committed no crimes. I have not heard of one incident from my family and friends about crossing from WNY. I’m sure someone will have a one-off story but I’m not intimidated.
  20. I have a huge family in Buffalo. I have 7 nephews and 4 nieces in the area ranging from 21 to 38. Six of the boys played youth hockey and love the game. None of them will by Sabres tickets, the last one that did just gave up his seats for this season, he is 34. None of the girls or their husbands attend games either. I think the new school hockey people don't like the Sabres approach either. An entire generation of the fan base only knows losing. I don't think you can find a single demographic that likes the Sabres approach.
  21. Good info @LTS. I don't know if the hockey ratings are straight percentages but a quick Google told me that TV ratings are expressed as a percent of the population (1.0 is 1%) so it is a reasonable assumption to say yes to that question. The second part - factoring the cost of living and average amount spent on entertainment is beyond the scope I am willing to go. First part - As you know "Buffalo Metro" does not include the portion of Southern Ontario that comes to their Metro area regularly, attends Bills and Sabres games, and spends money. This is an unfortunate disadvantage and it makes their scores lower than the reality of the actual situation. So is your bottom line that the NHL should not care about Buffalo and they are not a viable market? What will happen in Salt Lake City if they go even 4 straight years of no playoffs? The league would hate that after they failed in Phoenix.
  22. Yes, I was a West Sider. Going to Canada’s was common and easy. No doubt the Sabres attendance, already mediocre, is going to take a hit. The people that live close to the boarder on either side are the most affected and that is a big majority of Canadians overall.
  23. Shania Twain was playing at Darrien Lake last night and that show was sold out so that was part of it. Still, I thought the small crowd was probably due in part to Canadian’s not coming over. The people behind us were from Hamilton though. She put on a very good show, she brought a lot of energy, she talked about Art Park being a special place for own career development. I felt bad for the small crowd but it made it easy to get in and out and no concession lines was nice. Still, she deserved a bigger crowd. I’m betting the Sabres see a similar affect. When and where?
  24. Took my wife and her two nieces to Art Park to see Grace Potter tonight. Good show. I’m tired. 😴 Bed time for me.
