Playing themselves out of a playoff spot.
Scottysabres replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
I'm not overly concerned yet. Many on here before the season started were expecting a wild card bubble team. Well, here we are at the midway point exactly that. -
My daughter met him new years eve, he was buying shots for a group. Said he was a real dick, her group had already ordered drinks and he demanded to be served first. Not a fan of someone that's a dick to my daughter.

After Botterill's show of disgust near the end of last season leaving the press box, I have to believe he's got poker's in the fire in an effort to address the issue and get in to the playoffs...…………….at least, I'm more than hoping that's the case. The thing is, when he makes a comment about not giving up one of the 1st's except for a younger player with term, as I browse through the capfriendly pages, looking at each teams roster, it seems so difficult to pinpoint a player of that description that a team may be willing to give up that could be a good fit in Buffalo. Maybe I'm just using the wrong criteria while I'm looking, I don't know...…..I'm using primarily a "finishers" type of player...……..is that wrong? I definitely will be looking at the boards input to see where a search can be enhanced or evaluated differently.

Yuck. Well, put Mitts up with Skinner and Reinhart ? Let the kid step in.

Coyle interests me, but not for 2nd line center duties. More of a 3rd line center and I've watched a couple of Wild games this season, He's a bigger guy with average speed. It's his net front presence that appeals to me, he's hard to move in that area, at least in the games I watched. I believe all the Buffalo media covering the Sabres read this board from time to time. And yes, there is some really good input on the team from fans on this forum. On a side note, in so far as Botterill's interest, I would hope he's paid attention to the Dallas Stars CEO comments. Tyler Seguin is of definite interest to me in any event, if the situation their continues.

Okposo seals it for Chia lol

But........Ehlers!!! I can't help it, the kid has speed ? I agree with this. No panic moves by Botterill i hope. Call up a couple of the kids, move? Some a couple of the dead weight players.

Honestly I concur with this. While the winning streak put us in this position, it is very concerning that they've squandered those points, and they aren't even to the half way point of the season yet. Botterill stated before the holiday break that help was coming from Rochester. My questions are who is getting sent down/traded and what is the goal of bringing up who ever gets brought up? Is it to enhance scoring chances finish, or to make the playoffs or is it to see if chemistry can be developed longterm to help fill out some of these roster spots? One thing I especially agree with you on, Mittlestadt. The kid needs to go to the AHL, there is little doubt, he's not ready.

Agreed. And I'd gladly pay the pick price if it were in a package for a player of Seguin's caliber.

Outside of the Boston affair I hadn't seen an event since his time in Dallas being sounded. What I have seen is him being somewhat consistently in the top group of the leagues scorers.

While the implications of "what if it were the Sabres CEO that said this" are fun to explore, I would like your view on Seguin as a possibility from Botterill's standpoint. 9.5 mil, 8 yrs, is a slight less than the Toronto Tavares signing, and with Jack at 10 mil, I see a comparison there for a 1-2 center punch at a reduced cost given I project Mathews at 11 to 12.5 range on his next contract. It may be anywhere from 2.5 to 4 million in available cap. If I'm Botterill, I'm on the phone. Your thoughts?
-
Well, if he was conveying both the owners and his own feelings in that horse....**** comment, I wonder how long before Seguin just has had enough of it. He most definitely would be the center I would like Bots to inquire on. His play is exactly the 2nd center we need. Interesting thought is all.

I was hoping Botterill would go the controlled player route. But yea, deadline day may fizzle for entertainment.
