  1. Hartford is a small city/large town of less than 125k. It could garner no fan support outside its own county, with surrounding areas fans of either the Bruins or the Rangers. Outside of recent losing our scenario is nothing like the one that sent the Whale packing.
  2. The probability of two independent events is the PA * PB. So while the Sabres chance of a playoff berth under JB might be the same as your Powerball win, the owners would hardly allow a team back to the city of Hartford. (Hartford - The Matt Ellis of former NHL cities). Thus the probability of both occurring is lower than a playoff bid next season.
  3. This is all mental m@sturbation. We will select in the top three. I’ll say second overall. So there is no use debating if the pick will be traded.
  4. Good call. Searched under"this forum" using search terms and limited results. When you go under author and content it reveals much more. What do you use? There is also an exchange under stimulus that was entertaining.....Inkman I believe was involved.
  5. Doesn’t look like it. In line at grocery store, I had time.
  6. In the tech industry the standards I've seen are as follows: Manager/Sr. Manager - 2 weeks + 1 week for each year of service. Director - 2 weeks + 2 weeks for each year of service, VP - 2 weeks + 4 weeks for each year up to one year. Anything higher than this - Ex VP, President of a region, CIO, COO, CFO or CEO are all based on individual contracts that lock you in for 'x' years. If you part ways at any time you are paid through the term agreed upon. I once reported to one of the worst EX VP's ever that was brought in from HP for a three year contract. He was terminated after 2. Everyone below him hated him, and we suspected above as well. A friend in payroll confirmed he was receiving his $350K annual salary every two weeks through year 3. I'm not sure what his stock options or bonus impact was, but I equate these contract to that of a GM or Coach. If you part ways, there is still an obligation to pay the remainder left on the deal. Unless you are terminated for cause - and by this I mean egregious behavior and provable beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law, I suspect the three Executives terminated for the Sabres will receive their severance. I'm confident that if and when the time comes when my performance is not commensurate with my salary the company moves on from me, I'll enjoy the "Summer of George +" for my 24 years . ? Here is the question that I find fascinating. Why is it we (outside @Ogre who maintains a personal relationship with some) feel bad for these Executives? The large preponderance of us want JB fired for the poor performance of the team on the Ice. Most of the STH's that post here seem unimpressed with the Day to Day Operations of the Sabres. Outside the fact I think it's a top down problem, and you should not expect much improvement in these areas, should we not be happy that they are recognizing internally there are shortcomings? The only difference I see between any of these three Execs and JB is that the immediate termination starts the clock on getting them off the payroll where as a JB termination will still require him to be paid through the end of his contract (which I'm still not sure if it was 4 or 5 years). So it makes no difference if it's tomorrow, June 1st or December 31st. (The underline is most likely wishful thinking).
  7. Hard to defend the Sabres brass for just about anything these days, but I fall on the side this is not "Dick Move". Based on their titles, it stands to reason most of these associates will get 6 months severance which is substantially more than 26 weeks of NYS UE benefits. It's never a good time to be fired, but based on the current environment do you really want these under-performers (at least in the mind of upper management) collecting a paycheck and zooming with their direct reports for 2-3 months? Only to be relieved in the summer? I live out of town, so I cannot comment on game-day atmosphere, but I respect the STH on SS and if its not good and they feel disrespected, then cut bait. Hire someone from out of town, from another team or a different sport altogether to bring a different mindset to the organization. I hope they improve the experience for those of you that do support the team as STH's.
  8. Did you use HR Block or Turbo Tax? Lots of issues with them according to the Post. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/04/16/coronavirus-cares-stimulus-check/
  9. I fear it’s already too late. The broadcast, like the product on the ice is lacking. As noted by others, Ray, while a fan favorite and Sabre great does not provide superior insight and knowledge that other color analysts offer. And Rick’s mistakes have steadily increased over the past few years. The only improvement to the Booth I’ve seen was the addition of Marty Biron. The Covid epidemic coupled with his already questionable health, should be the formula for retirement. maybe come back if/when the Sabres make the playoffs as a special guest.
  10. I missed his era in Sabres hockey. I moved to Orange County, and this was before NHL Centre Ice had taken off. I respect the love for him, and you can't help but love his grittiness, but most of the video I've seen of him (and Kaleta) are where they leave their feet to make hits. Both hits in this montage display that. I'm glad these are taken out of the game. Both players in today's game would struggle, as they are undersized, and the rule is a disadvantage for smaller players.
  11. I pulled the data from CapFriendly (below) and your correct, it does not appear to match. Their projected cap of $75.5M does not equal the sum of Forwards, D, IR and Goal. I've never seen this not calculated correctly. The sum of this is $65.91M. So assuming the Salary Cap does not change ($81M), WPG has $15M in space. My comments still stand regarding how quickly that money will need to be spent, AND more importantly WHERE IT GOES. You need to sign 3 Defenders, and two of them have to be quality. The medium positional spending for Defense is $21M. WPG has allocated under $11M as of today. Third lowest in the league. The analytics backed up the eye test this season suggesting that WPG gave up way too many high danger chances and their Expected GA was second worst in the league. If Helley goes down for 3-4 weeks, the season is dust. There is definitely going to be at least $8M spent there retooling. Add $1.5-2M for a back up Goalie. Forwards you need 5. So even if they give their bottom 3 min contracts of $700K, with Roslovic due a raise that adds another $4M. Leaving $1M in space. Moving Copp or Lowry is not going to get you under. Their first is going to be around #17 overall. Not very valuable. Let's make a friendly wager that most of the offseason moves are on the Blue line and not at Center.
  12. There is zero percent chance Cirelli goes to the Peg. The primary reason is you have no Cap space to support this. Assuming the Cap stays at $81m, Your team has $7.5 to sign 4 Forwards, 3 D and a backup Goalie. Newsflash. Cirelli’s AAV will be north of $7m by itself. Secondarily, they have $10.5 committed to the Blue line. It’s more probable than not you actually trade a current forward to beef up it rather than add to the forward ranks. Third, Winnipeg has an abundance at Center already. Adding Cirelli to the Peg and ignoring other holes would be the equivalent of the NY Yankees forgoing a pitcher acquisition to get a DH to add more home runs to its line up. Lastly, your package for trade is light. None of those players are grade A and your 1st round pick is too low. You haven’t the assets to move the needle.
  13. You should hope there is no agreement for a compliance buyout. While the KO contract may be considered toxic the Sabres have an estimated $37million in Cap Space and that is their biggest asset this July. As @nfreeman mentioned, the Sabres are a bottom 3 (maybe bottom 5) destination, so you are better off using that space to pry your next 2C from a team that might be up against the cap. A player like Cirelli will not be moving by an offer sheet. The only way a player like that ends up on a Sabres team is if Tampa is constrained and has no other options. A Sophie’s Choice - which would almost always result in TB keeping Segechev over Cirelli and needing help to ensure Cernak stays too. If you give teams with less than $15m in space a free out, then we lose leverage. Especially those with top flight RFA’s. KO can find a niche on a retooled third Line with Lazar and MaJo. And I’m not suggesting they have to take on players like Hunwick or Sobotka in return. You accept cap, but players that can still contribute. And while I agree it will be challenging to acquire any top level UFAs, the glut of Goalies makes a signing there much more plausible than other positions. Unfortunately I think if (when?) JB is retained, he chooses to stick with Carter Hutton.
  14. I'm not sure Arizona is in 'great' shape if the Cap does not move. They have $75M committed with only 9 Forwards signed. Not much you can get with $6M or about $1.5/player. Unless they offload other players they haven't the space to sign Hall. The shortened season might close the book on that trade as a swing and a miss. The Yotes are 5th from the bottom in the West, and will be in the lottery. So unless they win the lottery, they will be sending a high 1st round draft pick this year along with their 2021 3rd to NJ for what? Not including their prospects that were included.
  15. One the greatest monologues in cinematic history. Well written, and performed even better. He won the 1988 Academy Award for that role. Brilliant! Thanks for sharing.
  16. #2 - your take is in line with one Carl Icahn. Amazing what Wall Street will create for investments. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/13/icahn-reveals-his-biggest-short-position-amid-market-turmoil-commercial-real-estate.html
  17. If Terry and Kim can make what appears to be a colossally poor decision as it pertains to game-day workers, why should we believe he is going pull the cord on the GM? He is literally the 6th wealthiest NHL owner and struggles to commit payments for hourly employees who are clearly suffering. Jeremy Jacobs is getting roasted in Boston (and rightfully so) for an equally insensitive and business first attitude. Probably not a coincidence they are friends. But the Pegula's beyond bad decision making as it pertains to part-time workers amid the pandemic seems par for the course. Exiting JB early would require forethought, awareness, and perception. In other words, opposite of what has recently manifested from the executive suites at the Harbor Center. I felt like a GM change was a 50/50 before the shortened season, and feel like it has fallen to 30/70 at this point.
  18. Jim was great on and off the ice. A gentleman and great teacher of the game. I hope to thank Jim when my lottery numbers come in and #8 is selected as the Powerball.
  19. Lead Vocals Gord Downie Keyboards, Vocals - Donald Fagen Lead Guitar - Eddie Van Halen/David Gilmour Rhythm Guitar. The Edge Bass Guitar, Vocals - Geddy Lee Drums - J. Bonham Producer - George Martin - Beatles
  20. Has anyone seen McMillions on HBO? As far as documentaries go this could have been done a lot better and edited down to about two hours, but the story is fascinating and the characters involved are engaging. It’s all about one guy who ran security for the Marketing company McDonalds used for Monopoly game in the 90’s, and how he was able to steal all the winning pieces ($100k to $1,000,000) and distribute to a network of friends and family.
  21. Regardless of who is on your F3 line, if your penciling in MoJo or Kahun on your second line, we are not going to the playoffs for a 10th year. Especially with the current options you offered in net. MoJo needs to be on the third line with a hopefully mature and more polished Cozens. When the Sabres win the lottery, I can see a path for the new GM packaging MoJo in a trade as we would have a surplus at LW.
  22. For those keeping score at home, we have Triumph and GA as defense attorneys for the defendant. Everyone else as prosecutors. Amirite?
  23. If anything, RFK took a layer of toxicity away from Risto and will make more than a few GMs in need of a D-man consider something they might not have last summer. That said, he gone.
