If they thought that were they smoking crack? So Thompson, Cozens, who is the third top 6 center they thought they had? As for the D, as usual, they have put way too much on Power too early and they have hampered his development. Clearly Adams had faith in Samuelson that was unwarranted but surely they can look around the NHL and see how good defenses are actually built. Can't they? or do they think they know better?

Yes but you have to draw the line somewhere. Fans generally live on hope next year stuff. At a certain point you have to say I've had enough and now it's on you, the franchise, to show me and win me back.

I honestly don't know why people haven't stopped going years ago. It's usually barely watchable on tv. I don't live in the area but if I did I certainly wouldn't pay money to go see it. Seattle and Vancouver are short drives but I won't pay to see them there either. It's just not worth it. You likely will also have to factor in few (if any) Canadians coming over the border if things continue as they have been. There's already a huge drop in cross border traffic and the tariff thing has created an anti American thing in Canada that will no doubt have an impact on their ticket sales. Crazy rabid Leaf and Habs fans might still come but I suspect a lot less. The fact that next year feels like they are going to stay the course and give it another go is more than depressing. Delusional, and depressing.

I do remember him saying that but you never know the truth of these things behind the scenes. I really don't get the logic in trading Mitts for Byram though in terms of roster construction. If it wasn't contract related why would you trade your top producing center for another puck moving D man with a concussion history? You already had Power and Dahlin (and Jokiharju) in that role. If it was a big tough defensive D man to pair with Power I'd get it but the only thing that makes sense to me here logically is a contract issue that they anticipated and thus avoided for the moment.

Umm, no, it was my take. So I have no idea what your Canadian insiders comment means but whatever. McLeod for Savoie was a good trade because they got a roster player for a prospect. Will Savoie be the better player down the road? Maybe but idc. I want more prospects moved to win now not less. On the Cozens deal you cannot look at it without factoring in durability. I already see next year's excuse. "If only we would have been healthy" "just bad luck". Wait for it.

Whether it was Chychrun or someone else I think they did miss a moment that year that could have maybe turned things around. Their timeline was longer (supposed to be now, this year) and they did not seize the moment when they were doing better than expected and didn't make additions to try to get over the hump. Big moment lost.

Maybe but this is just Adams getting an RFA depth D man for his UFA depth D man. Adams likes that element of control for obvious reasons. The thing about the trade that boggled the minds of Ottawa fans was why Buffalo also gave up a 2nd round pick. They all seemed to feel this was a crazy win for them.

Or you don't trade Mitts. Why did we anyway? Did he want out? Did they refuse to pay him? It's not that he was so special but trading him created a hole on the roster and just bumped the pay issue down the road with Byram. Now we have a cripple from Ottawa instead. Just a genius organization.

This is 2 years old so give it an inflationary bump and a rising cap bump but there's where all your numbers should be for a balanced roster. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/4583624/2023/06/06/nhl-free-agency-contract-guide/ So, McLeod, who is a 3C not a 2C regardless of whatever it is the Sabres think they're doing should be making 3-4 million and the 4 is really generous. So no palm trees and taxes 4x4 seems right. If he gets any sort of no move clause it should be one of the backwards ones. He can have full NMC in the first year, limited in the next two and no protection in year 4. Given where and what we are all contracts should avoid trade protection as much as possible and definitely in the last year(s).

You think this is bad you should go look at how Bruins fans are talking about Swayman's deal. This is probably the only amusement hockey related things are giving me right now. Bruins fans don't have the experience and/or numbness that Sabres fans do. They really don't know how to handle a losing team. It's quite funny.

True. Team defense has not improved like I thought it would under Ruff. It seems this team cannot play defense without the offense suffering and vice versa. These guys seem only capable of one singular option. So the offense is up again, but the D is down. Too many offensive defensemen and not enough defensive D men. That's the simplest way to put it. One of Byram/Power should be traded, and then 2 defensive D men (if not 3) added. Plus a veteran goalie to split the load with UPL and then let Levi fight his way onto the roster if he's able to.

Drafting takes years of development. That's not the answer. We should have signed Ullmark. Failing that we should have added a veteran goalie in the expansion draft (if you remember teams with 2 goalies were shopping them around and we could have left Ullmark unprotected if he didn't sign). Failing that we should have traded for a veteran to play much of the season not a geriatric. Same goes for D. Veteran partners for each young guy we have. So while you do build long term with the draft, relying just on drafting is a fool's mission.

Dahlin anchors NHL’s 5th-best first pairing
PerreaultForever replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
I suppose so but that only holds if you were promised something. Did Adams promise him something different? He might have but idk. I just know the bs Adams spews in his limited pressers. One could argue that Dahlin is stupid if he expected something to change or be different. They're all stupid believing it, and so are we.
