GDT: 10/24/19 Sabres @ Rangers, 7pm ET, MSG and WGR550

Holy hot takes some of you need to calm down. It's as if you guys don't remember being completely suffocated game after game last few seasons. They controlled play for most of the game last night, but got torn apart for the handful of mismatched shifts where Panarin lit up the 2nd line+Dahlin/Miller. Hutton never had a chance on the goals against, and made at least two highlight reel saves. The team had plenty of shots, controlled the play, broke into the zone repeatedly with no issues, recovered dumps at an average rate. They weren't in the right place to take advantage of any of the rebounds and got out lucked in the end. If you think they got dominated I hesitate to believe you only watched the highlights. When Vesey and Scandella went out, the team was double shifting on both ends, got tired, made mistakes. Running the short bench hurt them. -

Whatever. They outplayed the Rangers for most of the game. Bounces weren’t going their way. They were being a little too cute and the rebounds were there but not the clean up. They had a couple of bad shifts and got penalized on each one. I didn’t see anything other than a few breakdowns being punished where the Rangers were getting lucky to not be bleeding goals. 82 game season go next. -

Skinner has always been a weird winger on the breakout. And Sobotka has always sucked at the breakout. I don’t care if he’s the defensive guy, he sucks at breaking it out. If Johansson is overmatched then that line falls apart. And Panarin is a star, you can’t just blame Johansson -
Fancy stat guys - should I be excited yet??

They are stats that barely correlate with anything predictive. -

Combination of the Panarin line versus Sobotka and Dahlin+Miller has led to the goals. That’s a weak link. -

Reinhart is annoying me with his fumbles tonight. McCabe too. They’re dominating play, but they let in goals on the very few shifts they took off. Need to just shoot Lundy is not hot tonight. Team is hurting without Scandella and Vesey. Something I wasn’t expecting to say this year. -
It's pretty telling that a lot of the players who seemed to struggle with the structured crazy advanced system Housley pushed on them all look like brand new players in the simplistic, yet more effective ordeal they're employing this year. Get these guys out of the video room-- that's for the coaches, maybe one or two players (PP QBs, etc.), not the entire team.

Lines mostly seem to just roll 1-4, with the rotation resetting after special teams events, or Jack's line getting extra shifts at ends of periods. -
Sabres Trade Alex Nylander to Chicago for D Man Henri Jokiharju
triumph_communes replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Joki is only 20, but is being handled by Krueger as if he's a veteran. Unlike Dahlin, who is only a year younger. Speaks volumes. -
He sucked first 5 games. Was slow, always lost the puck, never in position to do anything, shot lame pucks wide on his few opportunities. Then he started to get in gear during west coast trip, and right now is looking good, often in position, making great passes, actually hitting the net. I think most of it was mental, and he's starting to believe in Krueger now and change the pace that he plays at. As long as the latter keeps up, he's a great 3LW for the team.

GDT: 10/22/19 Sharks at Buffalo, 7pm ET, MSG and WGR550

Krueger‘s Edmonton team looked great in their first twenty games and then had a monumental collapse. Pundits said it was a young team that couldn’t adjust as teams adjusted to them and the games got tougher. It was also post lockout where a lot of teams were in a weird rusty state to start with. Hope this doesn’t repeat that. -

Eichel coming out party. Good timing for him as the rest of the team needed help. Slow first. Hood second. Survived the third. Dominated OT. PP got simpler and worked. PK needs an overhaul it’s bad. Hutton is our starter, not a 1A. Vesey contributing and Sheary is having a good start. -

First line came to play tonight. I like how all the lines are taking turns. -

San Jose was lucky to survive that period. Good response after a lackluster first period effort. Hope they keep it up and sweep Scandella is the head scratcher out there tonight. -
Can't wait for him to go elsewhere and be exposed for being a product of Bellicheck's system. Please ruin your legacy Brady

Sports statisticians take 4% Rsq and promote it as the metric to explain everything. Sports stats are bad. Journalists who don't understand the basics about stats then take these things and make it even worse.

Anyone got those high scoring chances against stats? Sabres haven't let in many goals where I feel like they've been outworked. Many of them are flukey off of weird bounces. Granted, some of those bounces were generated because of strong pressure, but they don't seem that consistent. On the other hand, Buffalo has been able to score with their 2-4th lines at ES, which has made the difference. The 41% PP was bound to regress, and that was a factor in both losses, but hasn't made them stumble overall. -
My only hope out of Bogosian is that Krueger can make him look good enough that a western team will pay a high rental price to get him, adding to the cupboards of draft picks.

This is one of those teams that plays up or down to its competition. Though it was clear the defense took the first half after the bye week off. At least it was only against Miami. Both sides of the ball looked much better after the half, and that's the comforting part about the game. Better than previous years' teams that would come out the gate strong and try not to fall apart before the end.

Those two were the only bright spot in last year. Did you even watch last seasons? -

They just had an off game against the Ducks, where penalties took their wind from them for an entire period. they’ve been good in LA and here. Okposo could just hit the net a LOT more. -
Erod was good last year, but he’s a lost puppy in this system. Sheary has been a quiet contributor. Vesey finally woke up in the LA game. Mittelstadt suddenly looks decent with decent wingers.

Better be Okposo being annoyed for missing the net for the 100th time -
