If he's only a slightly better Larsson I see no way he's a fan favorite lol. I think the ceiling and floor are accurate. I'm hoping his most probable outcome is a legitimate third line player on a very good team. I do realize this skews much more to the ceiling in this scenario but God it's almost June and I wanna dream!!

Ya I'm expecting around the second weekend in July. But some years it's on a Friday, some have been weekend. Us die hard out of towners have to book hotels and if necessary time off work in advance.
-
Dahlin, Mittlestadt, Asplund and 32 OA from this draft all on the ice together? I wish they would announce when prospect camp is with more advance notice this year.
-
Here's a decent write up on him despite it being dated. https://www.habseyesontheprize.com/2016/6/8/11861538/rasmus-asplund-2016-nhl-entry-draft-picks-prospect-profile-scouting-report-rankings-highlights His rankings going into the draft were a bit all over the place but many had him as a later first rounder that slid a few spots likely due to his somewhat smaller size. Sabres have him listed at 5'11 176 lb. He's going to have to add to that frame or fear of being rag dolled if/when he gets a shot.

This. Me too. Not going to wow you with a ton of points but I think he could be an excellent 3rd line centre in time. Plays a very well rounded game (ie. knows what the heck he's doing in his own zone).

For those that forget this was thought to be one of the key pieces to the Mark Pysyk trade with Florida back in the 2016 draft. The players traded were Kulikov going to Buffalo and Pysyk to Florida. But Buffalo moved up 5 spots with the deal as well. It was rumored at the time XGMTM really wanted Asplund.

Awesome!!

If San Jose makes the playoffs I think we would get the 1st in 2019. I think best case is they miss the playoffs the next two straight years.
-
Just checked out San Jose message board to read through their thoughts. Not many happy. Most seemed ok with 6 x 6 but feel that 7th year is a huge risk and extra million will impact any chance of landing Tavares. Other thing I noticed is many believe Tavares is very real possibility out there. Not saying they don't have a shot but a couple posters going nuts because it could take them out of Tavares sweepstakes.
-
I think one other aspect is this increases the value towards a trade. I'm not going XGMTM here but if Botts is looking to shake up and improve the quality of the core quicker this could be a nice asset in any deal. However, the way San Jose seems to be trending with ageing players I hope we keep that pick.

The Great Toronto Illusion (or should I say Delusion)
Derrico replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
First Lou Lamoriello officially bails on 'an upper management' position with the Leafs and now Mark Hunter also parts ways with the leafs. I think Kyle Dubas is a great young mind but at only 31 years of age and two experienced guys leaving, it's really his team. Leafs have some real interesting contracts to deal with this summer and it's going to be up to the kid and Shanny. No more babysitters. There had been rumblings Lou was going to move on to the Islanders but this Mark Hunter thing seemed surprising to me. The writing had to have been on the wall the GM job was going to Dubas. Combine this with the apparent riff between Babcock and Matthews and this is going to be an interesting offseason for our division rivals. -
This. Matthews is a good player, no doubt. But he does not belong in the same sentence as McDavid. Not even close. This goes the same for Eichel but because he doesn't play for the leafs you never read that anyway.
-
I'm surprised you don't have Crosby in that list. Which just goes to show how the term means something different to everyone. Edit - Missed it by that much. I think Crosby is but I see what you are saying.

Man I hate the 'generational' label altogether. There's no real definition of it and the word is thrown around way more than it should. Seems to mean different things to different people. All I know is I'm really looking forward to watching the Sabres come October and I'm not sure I would have said that had we not won the lottery and be drafting this player.
-
Potentially. But Olofsson is no lock to make the Sabres from Day 1. If he doesn't I could see the PP2 being as useless as this past year. You take out Eichel, ROR and Reinhart from that group and it doesn't leave much. Maybe adding Mittelstadt and Dahlin will give them enough to go on. Pretty tough when your trigger man is likely Pommers.....

I think this all comes down to Power Play time. How much will he get in Buffalo? Frolunda had an excellent power play (something like close to 25% success rate). He was not on the number one unit. Therefore all but 3 of his points came via 5 on 5. If Dahlin sees decent power play time (maybe as a way to scale back Risto's TOI) I could see setting the bar at 40 points.
-
Oh I know exactly what he was saying. Hence my reaction. Yes, Sabres fans were talking themselves into a guy being the Savior who dropped big time in the draft and had several warts in his game. Paid scouts who do this for a living have universally praised Dahlin. It's not reasonable to compare fan reaction between the two players. No scout was giving Grigs the accolades Dahlin is receiving. This isn't even Sabrespace Pumping his tires or just watching highlight reels. Listen to interviews with the director of European scouting, NHL scouts, people that have watched closely and actually do this for a living. The comparison between fan reaction to Dahlin and Grigorenko is frankly a joke. Edit - Should mention I'm all for a contrarian point of view. Ofcourse the boards need that and it creates discussion. But this is as close as I've ever seen PA to trolling.
-
Now we're comparing Dahlin with Grigorenko? FML.
-
Draisaitl might be the most over paid player in the league (ok there are better examples). But $8.5 mil per for the next 100 years for a nice player who's stats were inflated playing with McDavid? No thanks.

Dropped my kid off at his first day of kindergarten this past fall and it was me balling my eyes out
-
That may be true but if they are shopping him they will still find better offers.
-
I like your though but I don't think there's a hope in hell you're getting JT Miller for Girgs and a second. Over the last 3 years Miller has scored more than 20 goals each season. He has more than 55 points in each of his last two years. Zemgus has a grand total of 7 goals each of the last 3 seasons and less than 20 points in each. A second does not come close to pushing that deal over the edge IMO. In the second scenario your only adding a 4th? No way.

Pick John Tavares' Next Team -- Update -- JT to Leafs

That's probably more accurate. -

Oh for sure. Lottery 18.5%. Landing JT? I'd set the line between 5% and 10%. -
This actually crossed my mind. Playing with the full cage, I was wondering if he would take the visor for a test run sooner than later.
