  1. I’m starting to have a soft spot in my heart toward musicians and artists (like I already do toward engineers) - regardless of their worldview. They can have an exceptional talent that most of us could only dream of having.

Having said that, while I never seriously followed Foo Fighters, I’m trusting everyone else’s appreciation toward Taylor Hawkins. While their genre isn’t exactly my cup of tea, I wouldn’t write them off.

TBH, I was more shocked when Robert Miles of “Children” fame died a few years ago. That song alone captured the emotions and feeling of suffering youth in other parts of the world.

Didn't know he was that bad...the best I've ever seen in the shootout was Ales Kotalik...dude has the forehand, backhand roof job similar to what Ovechkin did tonight except he did the same move every time and even tho everyone knew it was coming it was almost unstoppable.

Surprisingly, Kotalik is only 18th best in NHL history based on shooting percentage...in fact we might have a better player right now in Tage Thompson who ranks 3rd all time in shootout goals.

Skinner is awful, ranking 387 out of like 419 players with a minimum of 10 attempts. In fact Ovechkin isn't that great either, ranking 200th.

I was thinking of Kotalik as well when we went to the shootout last night. (Caught the last few minutes of the game on SXM.) IIRC, he had a habit of taking bad penalties at the worst of times in regulation, but he was always lethal on shootouts.

    Sad The Office GIF

I can’t begin to imagine, man.

And yet, I think back to when I saw Rush twice on their Test For Echo tour: first in downtown Buffalo, the second at Darien Lake - knowing that Neil Peart is gone.

Maybe not in the same league, but this would be like Cannibal Corpse losing Alex Webster and/or Paul Mazurkiewicz.

I gave you a thumbs up because I thought the GIF summed up what everyone’s thinking right now.

My favorite band playing today. This is awful. We have tickets for three concerts coming up this summer. I don’t think the band can live through this. He’s like what John Bonham meant to Led Zeppelin.

    Or Neil Peart to Rush.

  5. My wife and I are in a serious conundrum. I was about to take a job offer from my old boss in Alabama which would have paid at minimum $73k per year. Unbeknownst to my current employer, they came out with a new pay and incentive package to where I could see six figures for the first time in my life - as a company driver.

Sounds easy, right? Not even close. I hope to explain more next week since I wanted to post this before the thread got locked until next Thursday.

That said, I agree with you. Tuch sometimes tries to do too much and gets in trouble

You, along with most of the regulars on here, are blessed with the ability to watch more hockey than I am able to. That said, I get the general impression that the team has improved considerably since getting rid of the previous coach AND the guy Craig Rivet unloaded on after the VGK game. (Names not mentioned for good reason).

NM wasn't as bad as west Texas.  Same desolate scrub as NM, but flat and full of crappy looking donkey pumps.  Ugh.

Been there too. Nothing to write home about, unless you like seeing a few old Cadillacs with the front ends in the ground and the rear ends facing the sky.

Yes, they do. This proves it.

I did that several times on our recent trip to Arizona.  Passing through East Butthole, NM?  SALUTE!

New Mexico is probably one of the most depressing states I’ve ever driven through - especially with all of the things I’ve heard about it. I have no plans to go there again - not even to throw a pizza on a roof.

All you need to know about the NFL salary cap is that its a lie.

It sure seems that way. It's like a malleable fiction. With the malleability being a function of how much money the owners are willing to spend. When you're in a Super Bowl window, that amount seems to be quite a lot.

I mean - there are chickens that come home to roost eventually. ... I think.

Yeah, thats all probably right. You can definitely screw it up if you're not careful. But with how much you can structure and restructure contracts it seems like its mostly just moving numbers around.

Isn’t the Miller contract only have like a 5 mil cap hit this year?  Football salary cap is a lie. Contracts are a lie

Taking all of these things into account leaves me with a very uneasy feeling: either Brandon Beane is very good at what he’s doing, or his bluff will be called when we all least expect it and the whole franchise will crater and implode exponentially worse than when the USFL was awarded a measly $3.

And that whole thing about moving numbers around should have us really concerned since it sounds a lot like Enron.

Im just here now to watch the overreactions from the same posters who say player x, y, and z are trash but then also Adams is trash for not trading those players.

I honestly thought that this was a good thing. Maybe the franchise will finally turn the corner and snap this playoff drought next season.

Hockey was/is a massive part of Russia's 20th century culture.

I wonder if that alone has had an influence on Poland's view of the sport.

OTOH, the regions of the former Czech Republic embraced hockey, notwithstanding their former imperialist occupier's affection for the sport.

But every culture is different. My sense is that Poland has a unique, singular antipathy for Russia.

That would not surprise me one bit. There’s quite a bit of history and bad blood between those two countries. The Katyn Forest massacre is still fresh on the minds of those who lived to tell about it, and was made all the more raw when an official Polish delegation that was on their way to memorialize the event died in a plane crash in 2010.

I mean it’s probably not fair that Polish people are the most charming, best looking, greatest people on earth and then also ask them to be good at hockey too.

Don’t feel bad. I’m English and Scottish, and both countries aren’t known for producing stellar hockey stars. However, there was Mariusz Czerkawski. I thought you might have remembered him from at least 10-15 years ago.

Okposo may not have Jack Eichel’s talent but he seems to be a way better captain. Seems to be a calming mature voice in this locker room of youngsters. I think he is earning his pay this year more than any of his previous years.

So true. That’s been the overall consensus. Craig Rivet made that abundantly clear in his bellicose and  unhinged profanity-laced tirade against Jack “Oaf” Eichel on the After The Whistle podcast the other day, and yet he lauded Okposo for his leadership.

Good for them, small country but they have been winning a lot of hockey games.

They finally won the gold medal in men’s hockey.

Back in 2006, I really wanted them to get it since I was a huge fan of Teppo Numminen back then.

    Everything worked out this time.
