Wasn't planning on watching. The Olympics are no longer (and haven't been for decades) the best of amateur athletes. It's nothing more than one big commercial with a political narrative that makes the hosting channel the most amount of money. If it's canceled I could care less.

Not to mention being overhyped to the extreme. The athletes’ profiles and interviews are nauseatingly dramatized, as if we’re all watching The Young and The Restless. Man, I miss Jim McKay!

As an aside, I have a really sick feeling in my stomach that Japan will be reeling financially from the Summer Olympics for years to come since they didn’t allow spectators at any of their events.

If National Teams do not do the right thing I hope that the NHL and / or the players do, either collectively or individually.

They must stand up and be accountable and tell the world that it has nothing to do with COVID.  Why would the damn IOC award the games to a country with a long history of human rights violations?

    Not just once, but twice.

I remember when @inkmanvoiced his opposition to Beijing hosting the Summer Olympics back in 2008.

If this is true, I think there will be a number of older players none too happy. Especially some of the Europeans like Ovi and Rask. The older ones who want a shot at that gold.

    Disclaimer: an observation, not political.

From everything I’ve seen in the news over the years and the seemingly cordial relations that Russia and the PRC have had over the years, Ovi and his fellow Russians will more than likely want to be there. The North Americans, maybe not so much.

(If the staff do think that this post is political, do as you see fit.)

It seems that countries don't have the backbone for this and that will leave it up to the athletes, which is not fair when they have trained their whole life for this opportunity.

That's all I will say on this for fear of sending this thread to the *club*.

Not trying to get political, but I see how the NHL decided to make a move on this since the US, Australia, and the UK announced that they were not sending diplomatic representatives to Beijing for the Winter Olympics.

As for what the CCP is doing to the Uyghurs, it is absolutely unconscionable.

    What's going on here ?????

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I hope he’s ok. I’ve known him for his dark humor in the past, but this is different- and not in a good way.

Inky, I’m no mental health professional, but you do have me concerned that you may be suffering from depression.

That’s always a good plan. Those people tend to live longer, better lives.

I forgot to mention that I need to stay off social media as much as possible. I’ve already been upset enough over the adult fairy tales being spread on there in the form of conspiracy theories. I don’t need to shorten my lifespan by engaging in arguments with idiots who live in denial over the virus/mask/vaccine.

As soon as I get a negative test, I’m getting the booster shot.

  7. So, I came down with what I thought were symptoms of a sinus infection on Saturday. I set up an appointment with my doctor for telemed. I ran through my symptoms with him, and then he offered to have me do the COVID test. At first, I thought Nah, but I made a snap decision to get it done.

Next thing I know, less than 15 minutes later after the test, I get the call that I tested positive for COVID-19.

I can’t begin to express my level of anger over this. I’ve done everything I could to avoid getting it and passing it on to others. I’ve been vaccinated. In fact, I had a booster shot scheduled for today, but I had to cancel since I was having these symptoms. And yet, there are those people who just don’t GAF.

The silver lining is that I can and will follow doctor’s orders. Until then, I have to weather the storm and stay home.

i don’t have room in my life for things I hate.  The Patriots are on of those things. The Yankees are another.  Political discourse over COVID, the vax and Masks are also on that list.  All people who say dumb ***** about any of those topics will get blocked, ignored or unfollowed.

Dude, chill! Not sure what’s going on in your head right now, but you don’t seem to be the same inky from years past. Hopefully, everything is going well in Inky house.

Having said that, here’s my observation from Monday night: the rest of their regular season games are must wins. Period. Otherwise, they might as well get ready for the next season and take out the garbage before next August.

I have family in the Beverly Woods/Southpark area, southern 'burbs, and it's quite pleasant. It's a great area for kids and there is a lot of friendly neighborhood interaction. It's convenient to anything you need in your day to day. I don't know what your idea of expensive is, but I think this area is what most people these days consider reasonable for a nice neighborhood ($450K can get you a decent house, and you can find nice townhouses for $325K). I think you'll have a hard time finding anything under that in the nice neighborhoods all around Charlotte. Not sure about surrounding communities, but real estate is just crazy lately. I continue to be shocked at what people consider a reasonable home price these days!

We’re talking a trucker’s salary, so anything above 250-300 is really pushing it. Having said that, this is not a panic move, so we have some time to sort things out. I just want to make sure that the whole transition is as painless as possible. Plus, we have no desire to live near the Trailer Park Boys.

Hockey rinks are on Indian Trail and town center. I kind of like Pineville better, but Indian Trail has pickup before work. Never lived in Charlotte but used to go there for shows when I lived in Fayetteville and to skate when I played hockey at school in Boone. Dates a girl from Matthews for a while too and went there a couple times. Not a bad area. Charlotte has one of the better music scenes in the south if that’s your cup of tea. North Carolina is infinitely better of a state than South Carolina is, but if you’re looking to move to the Charlotte area and you’re fine with more conservative state politics, I’d probably just move to SC. I’m in Charleston now, but I’m thinking about moving back to WNC. Need some mountains back in my life.

We would certainly like to spend more time in an active cultural scene. As for political climate, I’m not anywhere near as worried and obsessed with it as much as I was in the past.

Best to go to the southern side of Charlotte. A lot of the North, Northern Westside and Northern Eastside are pretty bad. Tryon Hills, Druid Hills, Enderly Park, the Plaza neighborhoods are all not very nice. A friend of mine moved there not long ago. He showed me some of the bad areas. As beautiful as the city is, there is a lot of gang activity inside of some of those neighborhoods. And a lot of those neighborhoods aren't like the ghetto neighborhoods you see around the northern cities. Some of them look like decent places, but are far from it.

Does that include staying within NC state lines, or possibly crossing over into the SC suburbs near the 485?

  11. So, my wife and I have made a decision to move out of Virginia down to the Charlotte area sometime next year. A lot of factors came into play, and we hashed out these things before making such a crucial decision. We had considered other metro areas, but we ultimately settled for this.

I know that some SS members have either lived in Charlotte in the past, or are still there. What areas would you guys recommend for affordable and safe places to live? Areas like Lake Norman are out of the question since there’s absolutely no way we could afford to live there. It doesn’t have to be city proper. We could even consider Concord or Kannapolis. We just don’t want to live where we would not feel safe, and I want to minimize commuting distance as much as possible.

Also, if there are other things that we need to know about that I haven’t thought about, feel free to pass it on. Just don’t recommend Elevation church to me whatsoever.

Antonio Brown and Mike Edwards of the Bucs have been suspended for using forged vaccine cards and will miss the game vs the Bills.

That should tip the Brady Bunch game much more in our favor.

Someone on the Sabres needs to man up and stop with the rap and top 40 garbage. They need a guy who has this as his goal song!!!

Btw, Travis Barker is a maniac on the drums and now the lucky bastard is engaged to the only half normal Kardashian, Kourtney.

How many more times will she be seen wearing Cannibal Corpse T-shirts? Will they play ****** With A Knife at the reception?

As for that video, the motif behind it reminded me of this:

and to think  a week  ago the Bills were great JA was MVP and the sabres blasted out to a 5-1 start!!

I said earlier that this game had me worried before it started. Having some key people out on the o-line didn’t help. Plus, JAX had nothing to lose. So, this loss doesn’t surprise me at all. I had a feeling that we were due to be upset.

Having said that, there’s something else I haven’t seen anyone bring up about our losses so far this season: on paper, they’ve all been close games. We can’t be expected to do blowouts against opposing teams as if we’re the Alabama Crimson Tide.

On to next week, when we take on the New Jersey Denmarks (h/t William Shakespeare).

  15. This game against the Jags has me really concerned. A part of our O-Line is snakebitten, and the Jags have nothing to lose at this point. They won’t make the playoffs this year, but they have the potential to shake up the playoff picture and embarrass a contender.

If the team DOES deal Trubisky (Washington, New Orleans, Denver make sense) they should immediately sign Cam Newton.
