Buffalo has done a nice job to revitalize the waterfront and there is still more happening and more to come.  But things are slow and political, like many cities.

The Peace Bridge replaced with signature bridge is not talked about anymore.

A downtown Dome Football Stadium is not gonna happen.

What to do with the Skyway is always an interesting topic.

Meanwhile, the Gordie Howe Bridge in Detroit is coming along just fine in terms of construction. Then again, will they raze the rickety and antiquated Ambassador Bridge once Gordie is completed?

  2. So I was trying to change lanes with my empty flatbed yesterday. Dude with oversized tires on his pickup truck with boat in tow totally ignored my signal. One of his kids looked up at me as I raised my left hand with the, “What the heck, dude?!” gesture. Even after I finally got over, I saw him weaving in and out of traffic and clearly going above posted speed limits.

    What an All-American dad…

Everyone has their opinion, I get it.   I lived on Boston 2 times my life for quite a few years. I was never a fan of the teams there but of course went to some games and was exposed to their behavior and talk shows:

    1. Pats fans. As bad as everyone thinks. I have posted in this thread before I have good friends that live near Boston and my office for work is there, and there are some really great people but they turn into world class A-holes if you bring up the Pats or football.

    2.  Red sox fans. Almost as bad as Pats fans but not quite there.  Being at a few Redsox-Yankees games in Fenway over the years and being to one Sox-Yanks game in the Bronx, I can say as bad as Red Sox fans are, Yankee fans can be a lot worse (and I was/am one of them).  At both stadiums, the New Yorkers were the ruder, cruder, fight starting agitators vs the Red Sox fans in almost everything I saw.  Again, living in Boston for a while many of the people there are decent people who turn into idiots when in a sports setting. However it seems that there are just more New Yorkers (NYCity) who are just plain bad people/idiots and sports brings that out of them even more.

    3.  Bruins.  Fans I don't think are as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Slightly more annoying than average but not that bad.  It can be the media/beat reporters that follow the team that are worse than the fans, and the TV/Radio broadcasters are Awful.  When Dale Arnold did games he was actually pretty great, but I think most people will agree that Jack Edwards is possibly the worst, most 'homer' play by play guy in the history of sports.

    4. Celtics.  No problem with Celtics fans. They can be annoying as any other fanbase when they are good, but I don't think they go beyond it.

As for the Leafs, Their fanbase to me is the most annoying in Hockey for sure, and it rivals Pats fans in terms of all sports. (With Yankee fans with an '*'.  Yankee fans aren't that bad from around the country, it is the ones that just reside in NY city that are really bad).

    😁🤣

Yes indeed and I hope you enjoyed the song.   Mingus was definitely an influential artist for future generations.  Patitucci is a true virtuoso on the bass, to me less of a composer than Mingus.  I like them both a lot.

Patiitucci is a monster bass player, but he doesn’t even come close to being as influential as Mingus, then and still, and not just to bassists, but all musicians and composers.

Totally agree. Patitucci is very good at what he does. He can cover different genres if needed. I remember when I first heard about him playing for Chick Corea. Then I saw way back in the late eighties when he was credited with playing bass for Twila Paris. I was like, “what’s he doing playing for her?!” Then I came to find out a couple of years later that he’s an evangelical Christian. So, that made sense as to why he was in the studio to help record one of her albums.

Speaking of basses, I just bought one a month ago. I’m looking forward to working on it and see what I can do in the coming months and years.

Charles Mingus was a fine composer, bass player, and band leader.

He must have influenced successive generations in jazz. I’m not well versed in that genre, but John Patitucci is one of the biggest names in jazz bass today.

  6. I know it’s classical music, but Jean Sibelius was truly a gifted musician and composer.

There’s a reason why I chose this specific recording. Sibelius was well aware of how Herbert von Karajan interpreted his compositions, and flat out said that he preferred von Karajan over anyone else in his time because “he’s the only one who truly understands me”.

Any idea what it would take to pry Perry away from TB?

If they can get him to waive his NTC, Stanley Cup Final loss, here we come!  (After 11 years in the desert will take it. 😉 )

Guess his juju was stronger than Maroon's.  The Sabres could use that.

I almost feel sorry for Corey Perry. But I don't.

He’s being viscerally roasted on SM:

People talking about politics when not asked about it, in forums/places not about it.

We all have our point of view, and sure, we all want others to feel the same way that we do, I get it.

My complaint is hearing about others political point of view when I didn't ask to hear it. Being TOLD someone else's point of view when I want to avoid it.

I don't care if you think one side is 100% correct or the other side. I don't care if  your view is the same as mine or not.  When I WANT to hear about politics, I will go to places where that is featured or ask an opinion.  This has been getting worse over the last 4 or 5 years and it doesn't seem to be slowing down.

The person who just CAN'T RESIST responding to a twitter post that has NOTHING to do with politics with something political....the person who just can't stop putting that slight subtle jab relating to politics in a forum about sports (like this one), the person in the supermarket how insists on talking about his/her political opinion loud enough so anyone within 50 feet can hear them (and they want it that way).  That is my complaint for today/this week/this year.

What scares me is that that was me several years ago.

Sure, I may have mostly moved on from it, but it still hurts from time to time that I had actually dehumanized and demonized others in the process with my arrogant and “holier than thou” attitude.

I work in receiving for a major American retailer and it's essentially company policy to do nothing to stop or deter shoplifters. You can't even go up to someone you suspect of shoplifting and ask if they need any help (seriously). We all joke that instead of cutting hours to save money just get rid of LP because they are essentially barred from stopping theft.

If it’s Sears, there isn’t much left to take.

Hockey is weird....coaches just rotate around the league every 3-4 years. Get fired and another teams hires you

Well, yes and no. Teams keep hiring Lindy Ruff. SFAIK, no one will touch Ralph Krueger with a ten foot pole.

NTA, but IMHO a bit insensitive.  "I just really want to know what's going on" isn't a good enough reason, again IMHO.

It's a complex situation, and I'd also like to know how she's doing, and I agree that the $850MM in public money gives the public a bit more of an interest in the situation than would otherwise be the case.  But I think it's still way too soon for the public to have a right to know that would outweigh the family's right to privacy.  If it drags on for months, or if it looks like the stadium deal might be in jeopardy?  Then it's fair to revisit the question.

Ok, let’s bring some civility back into this.

What’s the latest? Is she getting better? Same? Worse?

Doubt they don't see him as a good fit.  More expect that they have at least 3 other LHD & arguably 4 when including Bryson that are better at what they ask than Pilut is.  They have 3 REALLY good LHD & 1-2 others waiting in the wings .  Not everybody does.

It may end up a #'s game.

Agreed - especially if the goal (no pun intended) is to break the playoff drought. Much like Herb Brooks being the last man cut from the 1960 squad for Squaw Valley.
