Sabres Sign Tage Thompson to a 7 year 50 Million Dollar Contract Extension
Curt replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
You asked a question. I only answered it. If Tage can score 25-30 goals and 50-60 points per season for the life of this contract, it will be worth it. Anything above that will be surplus value. Same thing holds true for Mittelstadt next season. If Tage went wild next season and Sabres signed him for 10m per, I’d be unhappy (with the deal, not the player) because they could have signed him for $3m less a few months earlier. The same risk would apply at that time. You could end up paying 10m for a 60-65 point guy. He would have only produced at a 10m level for half a season. He wouldn’t have proven that he could sustain that level. This risk exists in almost any long term deal. -

Next offseason I would be comfortable giving Mittelstadt this exact same contract if this coming season he has a year as good as Tage just had. -

I’m not always a big fan of citing goals above expected, because it’s usually presented as a list of who was “lucky”. However, the goals above expected leaderboard is generally made up almost exclusively of guys among the most skilled goal scorers in the league. Thompson might not score 38 next season, but guys who score more goals than expected are generally guys who are just really good at putting the puck in the net. -

It’s always a little tricky to determine when during the summer next season becomes this season. -

I think that if Thompson put up an equal or better season this year, the contract goes up by a lot. +$1.5M at least I think. -

Wow, Thompson’s contract is the exact same length and AAV as that contract Vanek signed 15 years ago. 15 years ago! -

$7.14M x 7 years is a great deal if Tage continues to be a 30+ goal, 55+ point center! -

Just tell yourself that it will be a bargain by year 4. I think that’s the right way to do it. -

I’m very interested in what this number comes in at. Is Tage giving a little discount because good vibes and he can lock in long term financial security? Are the Sabre completely confident that Tage will repeat his performance and want to lock him in long term at/near his asking price before he ascends to even higher levels? -
Most likely they use data analysis to identify a group of players who they are interested in scouting, then they scout those guys heavily. Everyone probably gets watched at a low baseline level, and if anyone who isn’t identified by the data impresses your scouts’ eyeballs, they probably flag them for additional scouting as well. As to rewinding and video scouting, they have scouting tool software where they can watch only a particular player’s shifts, so they can probably scout a player’s game in 20 mins, including note taking. It’s not like they are watching 75 full 2 hour games to scout one player.

Oh my, THATS why they wouldn’t insure you??? Of all things

I know you are probably talking about PCB capacitors, but.......I just bought a replacement capacitor for my AC unit from Amazon. At Home Depot I asked the old guy in the electric department if they sold anything like that. He said no, in 24 years there he thought I was the first person ever looking for one. Said he didn’t think any local stores would have it. I thought that was pretty weird. They go bad pretty regularly on central AC units, 4-5 years, and they are super easy to replace. I only zapped myself once. Anyway, it did the trick and my AC is back up and running tonight after being out for a couple days. That qualifies as awesome in my book. EDIT: I just realized that this is the random thread, not the awesome thread. Did I mention that I zapped myself once today, lol.

Annual expectations thread 2022/23: #26 Rasmus Dahlin
Curt replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-top-players-top-20-defensemen/c-335376574 Dahlin was just ranked as the 18th best defenseman by NHL. I’m a bit surprised that he made the list. What does everyone think? Will Dahlin have a season worthy of being called the 18th best defenseman in the league? -
Neither Heiskanen or Dahlin were NHL all stars their rookie year. They were on an all rookie team.

Rochester Americans Have Addressed A Racist Incident
Curt replied to bob_sauve28's topic in The Aud Club
It’s pretty nuts. Either the self awareness is below zero, or they think everyone is dumb enough to believe anything they say no matter how ridiculous. How low do they think the bar is for acceptable behavior? “We don’t openly yell at or spit on black people in public, so how can we be considered racist?” -

I wouldn’t call that a meltdown at the press conference, but it is great that this behavior was uncovered. -
I guess I just have a different understanding of the skill sets. No doubt Johnson is a faster/better skater, but I don’t think Johnson has shown any great aptitude for offense either. I’d say that Samuelsson is a good transition passer and I think his instincts are really good. We even saw Samuelsson sneak down below the goal line in the offensive end on occasion. If Samuelsson ends up playing top pair with Dahlin, I think he will be a 30-35 point guy. In my eyes he has already shown that he is going to be a top 4 defenseman in the NHL, so it’s surprising to see him ranked with guys who probably have similar upside, but have never played a game of pro hockey.
-
Samuelsson being sandwiched below Johnson/above Lindgren makes no sense. I’d have put Samuelsson around 7-8.

So funny. The idea of an iron man streak or record conjures thoughts of stoic determination by dedicated, hard working physical specimens. Not a doughy, hot dog eating, eccentric, one way winger. Love it.

Annual expectations thread 2022/23: #20 Lawrence Pilut
Curt replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
I think he will be a top-4 player in Rochester for most of the season. Will be a call up a couple times when there are injuries. He probably gets into a few NHL games, but I’d be a little surprised if he plays more than 10 NHL games. -
Please don’t let this insanity from mr Dibiasi besmirch the reputation of us other goathead enthusiasts. Does he think that it’s a Pegasus on the the Bills’ helmet? I like the goathead as a fun 3rd jersey, and I prefer the blue and gold to black and red.

I think that’s it could be gloriously beautiful.

The Sabres did Offer Johan Larsson a Contract per Riley Sheahan
Curt replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Personally, I don’t think the debates of players X, Y, and Z being either C’s or W’s matters too much. Yes, some guys are much more comfortable playing one or the other, but if we end up with 4-5 guys who can/do play as top-9 C’s depending on the line combinations and injuries, that’s great. I always go back to some of those good SJ Sharks teams of the past decade. They had Thornton, Pavelski, Couture, Hertl, and Tierney all playing in the top 9 and logging time at C at various times. Some guys would shift to the wing when the situation dictated it. -

I doubt that the Sabres told Sheahan that, but he definitely could have found out. It’s basically part of a player agent’s job to be aware of the inner workings and goings on around the NHL.
