  2. The draft lottery is a good system.

I don’t get the comparison at all. They don’t play the same position, have a similar style, or have a similar statistical profile. Also, Caufield DID slide to 15th, so................
  4. Monahan is signed for 3 more years, Gaudreau for 2 more
  5. It is real.

Yes, opposing OHL coaches voted him best defensive forward.

I think his skating is very good. His straight line top speed might be average though. His short area quickness, acceleration and agility are great. Overall it’s a strength of his game for sure. What scouting reports were you reading? In addition to this, he hustles like crazy and is very very smart on the ice, so he gets the jump on other players by outworking and outthinking them. That’s my take.

That wasn’t your question. You said there wasn’t much difference between the prospects available at 5 and at 20 this year, so maybe they should trade down. The general scouting assessment does not agree with that statement. Scouting in the top 10 is more accurate than in the late 1st. What you are now proposing is basically that there are good players drafted in the late 1st thru 3rd every year, so why not just trade down and take those guys every year? Why hasn’t Buffalo been able to find any of these gems in the draft? Because they have drafted really poorly. Want that to change? Well, they just drastically reorganized their scouting department. Maybe that will help.
  9. Either Eichel is trying to hold serve with 3rd line wingers, and lines 2/3 desperately try to make due with decent wingers but no C, or Eichel’s line dominates and lines 2/3 get caved in. It’s trying to decide the lesser of 2 evils.

Whoa whoa whoa! So you would trade #8 for a 2nd line winger in his mid 20’s signed for a few (2-4) more years, who then is a UFA, but not for Cirelli who is under team control for 4 more years as an RFA and is the perfect 2C for this team? I don’t understand your reasoning.

Not true. There is a difference.

I think you get that 2nd line winger for A LOT less in a trade.
  13. It’s pretty good. The white looks great. The Blue looks a little plain and I don’t love the triple yellow stripes. But, they didn’t ***** it up.

So you would trade #8 overall for a 24-27 year old, 50-55 point RW under contract for 2-3 more seasons, then UFA, at $5-6M? Its just hypothetical, although I know I was rather specific.
  15. Yup, just like the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals............

Seriously, Rossi seems pretty ready. That’s true whether he ends up going 3rd, 5th, 8th or 10th. I think Lafrenière and Rossi are the two most NHL ready guys.

Whaaaaatt? Rossi is one of the most NHL ready guys in the draft, I think. He could possibly be in the NHL next season, and if not I think 2021-22 is a certainty. So what difference does the strength of the draft make if every prospect is an unacceptable waste of time?

Somewhere there is another thread about the Sabres pick being #8 overall. We have know that it’s #8 and been talking about it since June 26.
  19. True, but if your center depth looks like Buffalo’s has for the past 2 years, you are screwed no matter how you deploy the wingers.
  20. 4 fer Monday: 3 pts for regulation win, 2 for OT win, 1 for OT loss, 1 each for a tie. 5 min OT played at 3 on 3, then its called a tie. That’s the best set up. Don’t ever give a goalie a contract longer than 4 years. Never ever. Kevyn Adams is going to prove out to be a decent GM who effectively manages the organization. Modernizing the structure of the organization’s hockey department, greatly improving the drafting and player acquisition targets. The Buffalo Sabres will end their playoff drought with Adams as GM. The goat head is a great crest and should be incorporated into the Sabres new 3rd jersey.
  21. I think in some scenarios it could make sense. If you have a true superstar player good enough to hold his own skating with a couple 3rd liners, you can then stack the 2nd and 3rd lines so then consistently win their matchups. It’s not so crazy. Pittsburgh has done it at times.
  22. Couple notes on this. First, they had one of the largest, if not the largest, scouting departments in the NHL, and even with the cuts I don’t think they are the smallest in the league. Second, we don’t know yet how large the department will be going forward. It’s possible that it stays as is, but it’s likely that Adams/Crowe/Nightengale bring in some additional people of their own.
  23. Just nit picking, but even Olofsson wasn’t that successful. On the PP, yes, but not at ES.
  24. I agree with you. No, I wasn’t referring to anything you said. Was referring to the comment that I originally replied to, which you then replied to.
