  1. Pretty sure he meant 2021-22 season.
  2. I could see Girgs being someone the Pegulas would like. He always works his butt off, he married a localish young lady I believe, he never complains. His contract is objectively an overpay and he hasn’t turned out to be as good as I once hoped, but I would be really happy to see him be a contributor on good Sabres teams. To see Girgensons lift the Cup as a Sabre might bring me to tears. He is easy to cheer for.
  3. Sometimes little birdies have a lot to say???
  4. I think that anyone who thinks Kahun would have signed a similar deal with Buffalo is mistaken. This is the contract that he decided to take after weeks of waiting for anyone to make him a better offer that never came. After taking a hard stance with the Sabres, and having them call his bluff, Kahun was unlikely to come back asking for a lesser offer. With that said, I actually liked him and was hopeful that he could be a solid middle 6 contributor. I wouldn’t be surprised if he does really well in Edmonton.
  5. Don’t forget to vote tomorrow! And encourage your friends, family, and co-workers to vote as well!
  6. So, there is a lot here that I didn’t say. I don’t think that anyone needs to forgive this guy or hire him, and I wouldn’t blame anyone for not. That’s up to you. I’m not even saying that he is worthy of forgiveness or has changed for the better. I’m not nearly close enough to the situation to judge that. What I am saying is that if someone wants to give him a 2nd chance (the Arizona Coyotes in this case) maybe “the mob” should not demand his excommunication. Forgiveness can be tricky though, because the person must be deemed worthy of that forgiveness, and everyone will have a different view on that. He doesn’t necessarily get to do whatever he wants, but other people don’t automatically get to dictate what he can and can’t do for the rest of his life either. He has to live with the shadow of his mistakes but they don’t define his entire existence. That’s life. As for Kapernick, I don’t see the connection at all. Kapernick never did anything wrong in the first place. It’s a huge load of BS that he was essentially blackballed and it’s one of the reasons that I’ll probably never go back to being a fan of the NFL.
  7. That’s actually a pretty low projection for Dahlin. I would probably be a little disappointed.
  8. So, from your perspective, no? He should never be able to have a career playing pro hockey. I just worry about going down this road of trial by mob. I can’t align myself with the idea that if someone (in the public eye) makes mistakes, they should be punished, not only by judge, jury, and the law, but also by taking away from them the thing which they love the most, or thing they are best at. Forever. That kind of mentality does not leave much room for the very human concepts of enlightenment and redemption.
  9. This whole saga is such a embarrassing disaster from the Coyotes perspective. Everyone knew about his history. All teams knew, it was publicly reported. I had read about it. If you are going to make the decision to draft this player and give him a chance, you better be ready. You better have justification for why you believe in him and why he deserves that 2nd chance to prove himself as a human being. To make the purposeful decision to take him into your organization, only to then drop him when the 4 year old story gets back into the news, just makes the Coyotes look totally directionless and spineless. If you believe in this guy then defend him! If you don’t believe in this guy then why did you draft him in the first place? It just looks really haphazard. This coming on the heels of being penalized for scouting violations and losing their 2020 2nd and 2021 1st round picks just makes it that much worse. They look a mess. And they haven’t had a winning season since 2011.
  10. Adams has had a better offseason on paper than all of Botterill’s offseason combined.
  11. I feel like Detroit improved more than Ottawa probably. Remember that Ottawa also lost Duclair and Pageau off their team.
  12. Reinhart, Reinhart
  13. Sam just signed his first 1 year contract. His previous contract was a 2 year bridge.
  14. Yeah, it doesn’t make much sense this offseason. If I recall correctly, it starts to look like a plausible idea next offseason.
  15. I’m kind of going to disagree here. PK/PP is often a very structured scenario where both teams are trying to create/prevent openings in very specific areas. I think that on the PK a goalie may actually be MORE dependent upon their teammates to execute than at ES. A failure to execute/mistake by the PK team results in a prime scoring chance a very high percentage of the time, probably more often than a similar mistake would at ES. In general, I think that the level of coordination between goalie and defense is greater than we often realize. I think they are just about always trying to funnel shots to certain areas, prevent certain types of chances, and play scenarios certain ways in order to play into a goalie’s strengths and protect their weaknesses. Just what I’m thinking.
  16. I think seeing through traffic is a skill, one that’s used both at ES and on the PK, but probably more on the PK. Thats a hypothetical example of what I mean when I ask what specifically about Ullmark’s play makes him bad on the PK. Just saying that he is bad at PK because his SV% is low there is not very convincing to me.
  17. I’m jumping back in late. I would have taken Rossi, then Lundell at 8. Still would probably, but the reasons cited by management for taking Quinn absolutely make sense to me. I learned a lot about him after the pick. A lot of things that I like. I can’t say the same about Nylander or Mitts, for example. Its not enough that I know am saying that Quinn was the right pick, but it’s enough that I’m keeping an open mind. We’ll see how it goes.
  18. The bolded is much different from what you originally said. You said that you don’t think the “ideal notion” of spreading the scoring talent over 3 lines even “exists in reality”, and also that it was “inevitable” that two lines would be far ahead of the others in ice time. Those are pretty absolute stances that really have no supporting evidence. If you are walking it back to the bolded, then I agree. 😉
  19. I guess my question is, what is he actually bad at? Penalty killing specifically is not a goalie skill. It’s still stopping the puck. I would need to define what exactly about his play is leading to a low PK save %. Or if it’s even his play, or if its team PK. Do you, or anyone else, know where to find goalie save % broken up by shot quality? Or save % on high danger chances?
  20. Where are you finding your PK save % stats? Also, I just want to add that not all high danger chances are created equal. If the team was giving up lots of ultra high danger chances, that would be a major factor.
  21. Montour won’t be expansion draft eligible because he will no longer be a Buffalo Sabre at the time of the expansion draft. He will be an unrestricted free agent. That’s no reason to prioritize keeping him.
  22. This hasn’t actually been the case though. Last season the top line (Olofsson-Ike-Sam) got the most minutes by a wide margin, then the other 3 lines were extremely close in ice time, often fluctuating a lot from game to game. And it’s not unusual for the 2nd/3rd lines of NHL teams to be very close in ice time. With more talent, will Krueger try to stack the talent on 2 lines and follow suit with the ice time? Will he try to spread the talent out and spread the ice time as well? I don’t know and I’m not sure how you could know. It’s kind of uncharted territory.
  23. Big fat Nope.
  24. I don’t think he is too bad defensively, probably a little below average. The thing is that while Olofsson has an elite shot, it is literally his only above average skill. The shot allows him to play on a top 6 scoring line with players who can maximize him, but even then he isn’t especially good at ES, and if he is anything more than your 5th or 6th best forward, your team probably isn’t good. On the PP though he is very valuable because that shot is something the other team needs to constantly guard against at the risk of an automatic goal against. The PP goals matter, but must be looked at separately from his ES play.
  25. Yeah, I’m not excited for Irwin to be playing regularly as 3LD, but he is a nice option as 7th or 8th D as a guy who can play either side.
