  1. Hey Robin Egg! "CFTO, Toronto. Channel 9; Cable 8" Remember those spots? I can relate to the snow effect and the antennas. It was cool growing up with CHCH Channel 11 from Hamilton, CFTO Channel 9 from TO, and CBLT Channel 5 (CBC affiliate in TO). I remember a kid's show where a guy would draw things like birds using pastels on Saturdays. That was on one of those channels. Don't forget TO was always a Norris Division team while we were in the Adams. On top of that, both organizations have been mediocre for decades with spots of excellence now and again. The 2 teams just never emerged from their respective divisions often enough to be frequent playoff rivals. BTW: My fantasy for when Bettman dies "tragically" in a plane crash and is replaced by someone who actually cares about hockey is that we go back to the old named conferences and divisions. The more this sport bends over backward to appeal to the average American fan, the worse the TV ratings get. It has been a belief and reoccurring theme with Paul Hamilton all season that the NHL deliberately created a crazy and difficult schedule for us this year as retribution for our first class tank job last year. What we recently did in California is a great example. Fly to LA, play there, leave for the Bay area, fly back to LA. I actually think there is some merit to this theory. Our schedule has been more than a bit unusually difficult this season.
  2. Waiting to see when Bylsma is canned is now Sabre Story #1 for me. He doesn't deserve to make it to draft day. We are going to find out if Tim Murray is a real genius, or faking it. I think there is a chance he hired Bylsma to appease the masses and create an illusion that the tank is over, while getting one more season of tanking in to add another top piece. A pretty bad Oiler team last night with a number of call ups and missing a number of starters including Ryan Nugent "Thompsons" beat an even worse Sabre team. Edmonton is giving up nearly 3 goals a game; we managed one. Bylsma was actually actively getting the COR line matched up against McDavid; the guy can't get the regular lines back on the ice for 2 or 3 shifts after a penalty kill (that's a reoccurring theme with him) and he loves to throw together garbage and mix it up almost nightly. Our passing in all 3 zones is garbage; our entries are confused; pure defensive zone coverage is spotty; BOGO is a disaster and Kane isn't far behind him but Disco loves to play him at wrong times with the wrong players. His player usage, in-game bench generalship, and overall grasp of things are HORRID. The idiot actually called a TO last night at the perfect moment to rest the Edmonton #1 PP unit at a critical time. Will be interesting to see if and when GMTM shows Disco the door.
  3. That pass by Sam was fantastic! Reminds me of his blind behind the back pass from behind the net into the slot to McGinn I think earlier in the year, also for a goal.
  4. I volunteer for scuttle duty. There's nothing left to be gained this year other than finishing as low as possible. I think it would be fantastic if we won the lottery this year, now that no one is expecting it or even thinking about it.
  5. Which one? Olympics or Winter Classic? Both hurt!
  6. Thank you! Someone else who has noticed this. Their audio software has an automatic volume level setter and every time the puck hits the glass behind the net, it makes the system go haywire. It temporarily thinks the sound level just massively increased, so it overcompensates by turning the volume level way down. I.E., every time the puck hits the glass behind a net the volume level of the broadcast drops by 35% or so, for maybe 5 seconds until it resets itself. Total bush league crap. You would think some audio engineer would have see this like a year or 2 ago and immediately done something to correct it. Oh well. Bogo's continued horrid defensive play saved by the off side! :worthy:
  7.  This made me laugh out loud.
  8. His accuracy needs some work, but I suspect it is what it is going to be at this point. See my previous comments about needing more pieces. Kane and his ilk ain't gonna get the job done.
  9. I didn't mean tonight you silly goose. It's pretty big.
  10. The gap between McDavid and Eichel is quite large. Much bigger than I thought it was.
  11. For sure we have improved, but what we have now + maturation does not equal the team we are all waiting for. We need more.
  12. You got that right. This is why I'm in tank mode now. We need way more pieces.
  13. I just heard that thin, hollow sound of a composite stick hitting the ice. And 3 crickets. Other than that, not much.
  14. Hey, he's a Newfie. He can't be all bad.
  15. How did the puck stay out on that one!?
  16. Quiet deadline. I really thought GMTM would have moved more players for picks and gone into full tank mode. "McEichel" night comes tomorrow; that could be fun.
  17. I remember that game well. Thank for posting!
  18. I intend to be watching as long as I can hold out, but I figure we'll get killed tonight. Who knows.
  19. I just hope he remembers you can't do a free-form jazz exploration in front of a festival crowd.
  20. Anyone who suggests that a radical reduction in goalie equipment size wouldn't have a drastic impact on goal scoring is out of their mind. Take a look at these highlights of Billy Smith and note how the net appears to be about 1.5 times the size it actually is. It's not that the net is huge, it's that Smith is wearing old fashioned trim equipment that keeps HUGE amounts of net open. The league needs to return to this ASAP.
  21. Larsson got popped pretty good there!
  22. It was clocked at 1,038 mph. The problem was it was 2 feet high and 6 feet wide of the net.
  23. Watch how often the guy completely misses the net too. I mean he makes Alexei Shitnik look like Mike Bossy.
