Jame your making one big assumption to me. That JBotts had to do much of anything to tank. We where historically bad when he took over, even with Kane and ROR. One of the worst teams ever. Him doing nothing more than *evaluation* on this teams players for a year was extending a tank year.

I also believe this. And. If JBotts had Murray's two years as GM we would be much closer than we are now with a nice stocked Rochester.

It's comprehensible for a shot at a generational player because we have ROR and Sam and a team of bad players with really, really bad contracts?

The trades where failures by GMTM. I don't think using them helps your case, or using a high round draft pick in mentioning Dahlin. I do understand that all teams to be successful must create their own luck in finding the Skinner-esque trades that can be had. The problem with them is and will always be, the cap and the huge amount of money they will be paying them. We can only get so many and if we sign Skinner are we there or very close to being able to stay under the cap to keep Dahlin and others like him in few years? However, JBotts needs to find free-agents that fit this team to fill in lower roles. The 3-4 line guys. I'm not counting on him to be able to find and afford to keep any more than 1 more Skinner type deals. The Sabres must rely on ECL's in 2021(?) and beyond. That's why the I believe the reliance on him drafting successfully will either make or break any Cup runs we could hope for.

There is a chance obviously that he can acquire top end talent that compliments he's view of what a SC team should look like (Skinner). But. ELC's are needed in order to lengthen the period of time that gets multiple chances to win the SC. Free agents are sprinkles on the cup cake, the true ingredients will come through the draft and up through Rochester.

I agree. It's not what has he done, because so far he's been *good*, but not all worldly as fair as GM's go.. A few missed shots and a few nice pickups. Rochester has some cans on the shelf that look tasty. His true test comes in the next 2 years. His legacy will be determined on how well he drafts over the next 2 draft classes.

I don't mean 2-5 years removed very their respective bottoming out *day*. I agree with you that we are better off, if for no other reason the Sabres figured out sooner that our GM was not good and has made changes sooner and for the better. My only point is weather you really suck as a team because you have been poorly managed for a decade or do a self induced *tank* it's hard to tell the difference on the lowest day of that era for either team.

In the end you wind up looking the same.

I took ROR's comment as *lost the love* was because of losing and wanted to go on to a winning team. Patriks seems to have had/having true heart felt *lost the love of North American hockey* and wanted to go home. No blame on the Sabres or players. The fact he let go of 10-12 million to be happy again is admirable to most and is the biggest distinction.

It was a really fun listen. Rob just seems a bit more uptight when he's on WGR or broadcasting. He touched on it when talking about his wife and the gas station owner. He is now super sensitive because his listeners are in the WNY area.

I'm glad he has some competitive edge. Just show it on the ice and not on that twitter thing and good things will happen.

I'd call it over the top rhetoric or may be hyperbole, with a smidge of very tastefully trolling that sent Liger straight to where he wanted him to go. Quite fun to watch.

We do have a much better defense. Light years ahead in the NHL and in Rochester. Taken with a large grain of salt is his comparison.
