Why are we comparing a former #1 OA draft pick to one’s drafted in the mid-to-late first (or later)? I get they may have the same physiques, but don’t the comparables end there?

He has only played over 60 games 4 times in his 15 year career. If he’s cheap enough and doesn’t cost anything, he’d be good depth, but wouldn’t count on him to put a full season in (done so only once). Plus he makes $5.25M and has a M-NTC (but maybe VGK don’t know this).

NHL games should be available to a more traditional streaming service, like Netflix, Apple+, Amazon Prime, or even Disney+. People who subscribe to ESPN likely do for reasons besides NHL games, so content goes wasted. I would like to watch games, but I’m not subscribing to ESPN just for this.

Levi has tons of promise, but that’s about it. His numbers have reverted to the mean this season, which is still a very high mean. But, he’s never won an NHL game and like every goalie prospect, he’s certainly no sure thing. Timo Meier is. Heck, Levi isn’t even signed to a Sabres contract.

They want goalie prospects? I would send them Levi for Meier straight up.

I think we need to have realistic expectations about how we define “cup contender”. We are not a cup contender right now. We may be in a playoff race, but we’re highly unlikely to make any waves beyond that. Are we a cup contender next year, maybe. But, maybe not. I expect playoffs though. I do think we’ll truly be a cup contender by the year after. Quinn and JJP should be well-improved by then. If they have not improved by 2 years, then I agree they need to be replaced. But they shouldn’t be used as chips right now for an unrealistic cup run.

Or just to live.

If someone gets hurt I expect the next man up to fill in. It’s a hard balance though. Playoff experience (even if it costs an asset) will undoubtedly help this team. Filling in for an injured player also gives experience in the face of adversity. I just don’t want to send assets for a month-long stint with the team.

I don’t want any rentals. Get someone who fits into the team’s long-term vision or forget it.

Or the bigger elephant in the room is does VGK move on from Eichel and his contract. Iirc, his NMC kicks in this offseason. If they don’t move him, they’ll be stuck with that contract till the end.

It’s a long season. They need to pace themselves.

This situation sounds like the Jason Robertson situation of last year. KA heard he could be available, so he checked in to see the price, but was ultimately just window shopping.

Don’t forget that Bloom didn’t play any hockey during the 20-21, the season before he was drafted. Had he played, and progressed as he has, he very well couldn’t been drafted much higher. Savoie did play hockey during the 20-21 season.

And due to this, it really limits what they will be getting for him. I certainly wouldn’t send a small group of young, promising players or picks for a potential rental. And this doesn’t even take into account that only a few teams would be able to absorb this QO. He’s currently making $6M. How many teams even have that space right now? We may end up being on the receiving end of a Hall type of trade.

Teams usually overpay for competent goalies for a playoff run. The problem is Anderson has yet to win a game in 2023.

Off the top of your head, can you remember the last time Anderson won? I can’t.

He may need another conditioning assignment. Really though, Anderson is not the future and should sit, unless they are showcasing him.
