To be fair, the NHL has also seen an almost 33% expansion since that time, adding 12 teams. Hockey in general has grown, as has college sports. Obviously hockey is more of a niche sport, but it still greatly trails the other three big sports in terms of scholarship. Either way, it’s nice to be able to have discussions like this with civility. It seems like the board has been doing a good job with that as of late. I would be interested in taking a look at the data you found and seeing how the increase relates to increases or decreases in other sports. I’m very much open to changing my views towards the issue, I just don’t like to see anyone losing out on opportunities, regardless of sex. However, as @North Buffalo said, that’s not always a possibility.

The issues aren’t unique to hockey, it’s mens sports in general. There’s more than enough academic papers out there showing the negative effects of title ix on men’s athletics. So yes, you’re right. The issues aren’t unique to hockey, I just care significantly more about that sport than say wrestling or crew. One could argue that (men’s) football programs are part of the reason for lack of scholarship hockey, but reducing the opportunities for men to make a situation equal isn’t equality, especially when the numbers support far more men being interested collegiate athletics. Several papers mentioned that an appropriate solution would be to account for this difference in desires, but obviously that hasn’t been the case. It’s an issue that should be thought of as supply and demand. Women’s athletics should get all the scholarships they demand, with the supply limited by sport. Men’s athletics should get all the scholarships they demand, with the supply limited by support.

That’s because cool coaches write right on the glass

Tkachuk everyday of the week. He’s more skilled and he is the type of player this team sorely needs. He’s well worth the extra money/picks. Do you think Tkachuk isn’t worth $9m?
-
To be fair, having coached less skilled hockey teams before, being able to execute a good dump and chase and knowing how to successfully chip the puck out of the zone and hit stretch passes is absolutely imperative. It’s not fun hockey and it’s not good hockey, but sometimes it’s the only hockey a team can play based on rosters.

Hell yeah, best of luck.

He addresses that right in the article

Someone absolutely should offer sheet Marner, but I’m not sure I see it happening.

Thanks for always doing this, you’re an incredibly valued poster here. I don’t think it would be the worst to make Byram look as bad as possible. Any chance you can grease the pull-up bar for him?

I would trade a 2nd back for our third if it meant the Sabres signed Matthew Tkachuk, though Im not sure how rational it is. He’s one of my three favorite players and would love him in a goat head jersey next season.

I hate how Marchand wears his pants.

If there any posters who are unsure of how they can respect and honor the fallen, please take a moment to read the following biographies and consider the families and their struggles on this somber day: https://thefallen.militarytimes.com/marine-lance-cpl-timothy-g-serwinowski/4681770 https://www.greenberetfoundation.org/memorial/riley-g-stephens/ https://www.greenberetfoundation.org/memorial/justin-cameron-marquez/ https://www.greenberetfoundation.org/memorial/joseph-lee-schiro/ https://www.greenberetfoundation.org/memorial/michael-s-duskin/ https://www.greenberetfoundation.org/memorial/andrew-m-pedersen-keel/ https://www.greenberetfoundation.org/memorial/jason-b-jones/ https://www.greenberetfoundation.org/memorial/girard-gass-jr/

Why is that?

I lowered my flag this morning and it really got to me. I don’t think that I’ve been this emotional about Memorial Day in the past. Every year that passes I feel like I spend less and less time thinking of those who lost their lives for our country during my trips overseas, and the guilt gets to me. I wish I had done more. I wish I could have done more. I understand that for many this is a day of cookouts and pool parties, but please take the time to reflect today on those who have given their life for our freedom. Great news for USA hockey as a whole

I think you’re reading that wrong. I think it’s 1st+Bryson (deal) and 1st+Laaksonen (no deal). I’d do Nelson as well, but not Pilut.

I thought I saw an article in the athletic questioning if Washington would qualify Burakovsky. I didnt read it but any chance anyone did?

You’re right, I misread your post as “what other option do they have other than increase revenue?” I thought you were talking in terms of profitability, which should be the focus of the league right now. Making money will be the easiest way to bring investors and expand. The opposite of the WNBA strategy basically. They haven’t ever turned a profit and don’t attract much outside investors beyond the NBA.
-
Decrease expenses. It seems like the priority should be finding appropriate sized arenas and stadiums to lower operating costs. WNBA had major issues with arena sizes, women’s hockey can’t make the same mistake to thrive. It’s better to expand into larger arenas and longer schedules than to move to smaller arenas and have to cut games.

I was also going to recommend Audio Technica. I started with the LP60 and I felt like that was a good starter table for me. A few years ago I upgraded to a U-Turn, which I would highly recommend, but not as a starter as it doesn’t have a built-in pre-amp or an auto-drop/return needle.

Isn’t that a pretty substantial increase in games? If money is an issue, how is playing more games the solution? Aren’t operating costs a back-breaker for women’s leagues in general?
