I do not think it is a case of Eichel can do no wrong, but rather is everyone doing what they are supposed to do in this system. In addition to the plays already mentioned, there was another where Kane carried the puck over the line and Jack had to wait at the blue line. He was uncovered. Instead of establishing possession in the zone and setting up the o, Kane skated into the corner, around the net and backhanded a pass to no one in front. The stars grabbed it and took off. Once Kane heads tot he corner, Jack is responsible for the high area. Samson crashes, but was covered like a blanket. The point is that Kane can be a bull in a china shop and doesn't create really good chances. I think if he backed off trying to carry the puck to the net every time, the other two would find him for better scoring chances. Samson and Jack seem to get that they have to be responsible position wise and are leaning that way when we gain the zone. What that does however is make it more important to maintain possession instead of barreling to the net 1 on whatever and getting a one and done. I think we all would like to see a bit more discipline all the way around. At least I would.

Look at the production in the 2014 playoffs from the Kings. The only skaters not to register a goal were Regehr, Nolan, Schulz, and Matt Greene. The Top 5 were outrageous. The top 11 had double digit points in 26 games. Heavy is winning battles and converting chances up and down the lineup. Not just a top 2 gritty lines. The Blackhawks eventually just wore down and the Rags never really mustered a challenge.

Keeping thinking that. We are a year away. Gionta on 3 on 3? Yeah we have the depth to make a playoff run. Enjoyed the game. But we are a few players and a year away. I never thought this was playoff year much less a cup team for the exact reason that we still need more scoring on the wings.

That the aforementioned are on the roster speaks to the talent level and its state. We scoff at the Oil but they have talent. Chicago dumps a premier young gun for a great prospect and picks up a stud in Panarin. Kutznezov is a depth player at the moment and is going to be a star. A top line of ROR Moulson and Gionta is not a top line. Ennis, Larrson and Foligno is a 4th. We are loaded with young centers a few promising d, and a lot of mediorce players thereafter.

I have said this before as well. The other thing is that while we improved personnel wise, it wasn't as great a leap as some think. The fact that Weber, Gorges, Gionta, Moulson, Larrson, Cola and Johnson are playing major roles is indicative that some patience is required for the other talent in our system to develop and to draft some more. They are vastly improved in discipline and effort and there is plenty of flashes of potential. But we are still outgunned by a lot of the upper echelon teams we wish to challenge.

+1. I will add that Pysyk, Risto, McCabe, Franson and now Bogo help offensively if for nothing other than being able to pass out of the zone. Cola is ok but Weber and Gorges not so much. I think Bogo's presence will help scoring considerably.
