  1. Love the thread.

I visited the California Academy of Sciences once upon at time and they had an exhibit to measure your carbon footprint. It was some sort of balance contraption -- so as you measure out your impact the scale would go from good-to-bad.

Recycling. Very little driving. The latest light bulbs. Barely turn on the heat or AC. Sustainable foods without too much packaging. I even unplug my TV and Xbox when I go away for a few days. Etc. etc. etc.

Then there was the lever for how much do you fly? It was something like: 1-2 times a year -- not good, but still weighted on the good side. 3-6 times per year -- balances all the good stuff. 7-9 immediately crashes the scale. So, I fly around the country for work -- probably 40 weeks/80+ flights a year.

Each year, I destroy all the good things I do by February. This makes for a sad Ebriate.

  2. didn't Ennis win that one ?

I think Ennis won the overall thing, but maybe Gionta won the semis on his shot speed? Anyway, he made some comment about surgical biceps.

Also --- Tavares. Wow. That's slick and nothing to be done by Ullmark. The skill of these guys sometimes make me smile regardless of their uniform.

  3. Good one Darth.  That one actually made me LOL.

Myself, I'm not a hockey player. But -- I imagine it's much like lacrosse playing with an aluminum or titanium shaft vs. wood. Or even baseball with the ping bats. You just feel quicker with it, whether you are or not (which probably as more to do with your skill).

What'd be curious to see is the "hardest shot" mph/kph scores at the All-Star games each year during the transition from wood to composite.

  4. I am not 100% sure I have ever seen the guy take a slap shot.

    Can anyone remember one specifically?

I'm going to start watching out for this.

    Uh, next year I guess.

    LOL.

But he doesn't shoot much, period. He's a defensive d-man in his mind, I think. Otherwise, he shouldn't have had trouble making it onto our second powerplay unit. Maybe it's just the quicker release?

  5. OT in a slow time during the intermission.  I haven't played hockey since the wood stick era.  Those composite sticks look way too flexible to be accurate with, even passing the puck.  Maybe it was personal preference, but I liked a stiff shaft (keep the jokes to yourselves :P ).  Do the pros now sacrifice speed of their shot for accuracy or am I just a dinosaur who should just tell more kids to "get off my lawn."

    Lawn.  ;-]

It's lighter so the kids these days can play with one hand on the composite and the other hand can hold their iPhone.

  6. I'm still believing Samson is our future Datsyuk. I'm mindful of a WJC takeaway.... opposition had the empty net. Reinhart just pressured on a forecheck, positioned himself... casual-like (like Francis Begbie), and took away the puck. Deposited it in the empty net. And after that, well, the game was his.

  7. I suppose this has been discussed elsewhere, but John Tavares had 24 G and 30 A in 82 games played in his rookie year.

Jack is currently on 24G/31A with 1 missed game.

    Shockingly similar stats.

    The Moulson effect?

(Didn't Tavares live with Moulson his rookie year? I seem to remember hearing that but could easily be mistaken.)

  8. Showed a lot of confidence from a young kid; I liked it.

I would love to see Jack get at least 1 G tonight.

25 Goals on the season sounds so much better than 24.

    My overconfidence is my weakness.

I'm just wary of Ullmark tonight because (statistically speaking) his numbers have been abysmal in Rochester as of late. I don't know what type of defense they've been playing in front of him, though.

25 does have a nice ring to it.
