Hmmm. We haven't won a race to a loose puck this entire period.
-
Dammit, True. Now it's stuck in my head
But is Goose singing it while playing piano is the question.
Nice outcome of the period. But ugly possession at times... thankfully a lot of those shots were from outside and the deflections all found Johnson.
-
Do we purposefully just pass to Datsyuk when in our own end?
And every shot from more than 30 feet out gets blocked. The Wings be schooling us tonight.
But we're just on bounce from a one-goal game.
-
We're facing a desperate hockey team and they're winning the battles. And Gorges cannot settle the puck tonight to save a puppy.
I do like the idea of Reinhart looking like Datsyuk in about four years.

Per WGR Fasching skating with # 52 on his helmet. Anyone guess that?
Just on the helmet? This leaves all possibilities open for a jersey/helmet combination. But no, I didn't consider Brady Austin's dev camp number.
Dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria.

The other thing to bear in mind is that he might be defensively responsible and aggressive, but I've not seen any games or writing with him being physical or all that much of a checker. He's a nice guy at heart. Which might not endear him to everyone.

He reminds me of a bigger Thomas Vanek...and not just because he comes from the Gophers.
Well... Let's not too carried away. Vanek was 5th overall with a fantastic shot and deflection skills. Fasching was a 4th rounder who has looked great on team USA, is great along the boards and kills penalties. I think he should project to one of those up-and-down the lineup guys who possesses the puck and can finish. 2nd liner hopefully.

sure... the game is tied. But I just like how much better we look with O'Reilly (Ryan) back in our lineup.
It's true. The tension has been hairy high, Rob. I like Rob's commentary, too, because I know I'd be dyslexianing up everything on live TV.

HEll yes Legwand! He will learn patience!

Huh. Weed and Feed sponsored by a hospital? That's how kids grow in Seattle. Tug Lehner's mask again!

Mike Johnson from Sportsnet just analyzed Evander Kane's scoring. Only 2 of his last 95 goals were slapshots. Says he doesn't have a good one, but could improve it with practice. One timers would be on the radar as well. Interesting stuff.
That is an interesting stat. But does it mean he's avoiding slap shots? Or is he just usually close to the net? Or when he does his bad-angle shots is it almost always a wrist shot to try and sneak it by the goalie and a slapper wouldn't make sense?

He has the tools but no toolbox. Reading Rangers fans online and talking to the several I know, they talk about his disappearance/lack of effort in a way identical to what we did in that giant Stafford thread. I just think his hockey sense is limited and he doesn't have ideal work ethic. The 'Player Discussion' thread on a Rangers board for him has "Come on...do stuff" in its title :P
He does running the goalie stuff well. So well he will lose the benefit of the doubt with any ref.

We've really got to improve our final minute of period play from here on out and next season. This is getting silly. We've gotten too good at giving up late goals.
But I'll have to watch the third because we've also become very good at rallying.
-
nylander... wow. Glad it's still a 1-goal game.
-
Good shift by Larsson line there. And icings galore.
-
I've gotta jinx us by saying how horrible we are playing more often.
-
With the exception of a sweet helmet pass by Gionta, this period has been horrific. I don't think we've possessed the puck for more than 5 seconds at a time in the offensive zone. Then the Leafs immediately take it and clear the zone.
-
Entertaining game... wish we'd finished it. Until next time. Bring my shuttle.
-
Great save on Kane.
-
Call Interference much???
Rule of NHL officiating. Don't want to ever give a team an opportunity at the end of a tie game, in OT, or in the playoffs.
-
Too bad on that penalty and kill. Hope we stay on the attack and don't play for OT and the safety point.
-
Too bad about the early whistle there. Those balance out (like ours in the 1st). Nice interception and then the attack by Kane. And a good wrestle on the next sequence.
-
Suter -- deflection. Otherwise, I think Larsson had a really good chance at the shortside shoulder. Dubnyk wasn't at a great angle.

I think this is Pysyk's natural role on a team (perhaps even ours). Granted, Pysyk's a couple years away from being a savvy vet himself, but long-term I see him as a #5 who is an ideal partner for the next kid. If the kid is an offensive/rushing type, if the kid is chomping at the bit to go hit someone at the blue line, it doesn't matter. Pysyk will be a solid (if unspectacular) guide who's in the right place and helps the kid learn the ropes for 13-15 minutes/game.
