  1. I like Zemgus and his vibe. I especially like the nickname. But he's JAG at this point. Well... If we'd retained Angry Larry to keep together the true checking ling against opposition forwards, then I'd say we could run the GLO as a third line (in minutes) to take defensive zone starts against the opposition's top lines. Then, we could run an energy-only 4th line Vegas-style for 6-8 minutes/game. But, when looking in comparison to the other payouts on this team and around the league I'll just say it, "This deal is getting worse all the time."
  2. Sheevyn's got to get something done for the top 6 (and preferably not losing Reino in the process and creating yet another top-6 hole) or at this rate his Order 66 will be his own purge.
  3. You mean trade him for a 4th in January, JBot-style. To Monty: Up to one year. And then you're as good as gone, aren't you?
  4. Does he shoot left or right? Does he have hands or were they tragically lost in a lightsaber duel?
  5. It seems that analytics are driving our signings? Or is it just compete-level? Execute Order... 15.
  6. Yes -- and we even speculated upon his arrival he'd get a shot as 3C this year (and we were likely doomed if he was penciled in as 2C by JBot). And Girgs can do either wing and once upon a time was a center as well. They're both useful in their way. But Girgs is not going to provide the secondary scoring unless we get a Larsson replacement who's also an offensive upgrade as well. Heck, Girgs didn't even provide secondary scoring when he was on Eichel's wing and they were sheltered by the ROR-line.
  7. So in Sheevyn's eyes: Girgensons > Kahun. And is to be paid accordingly. Kahun scored 31 and 37 points while barely getting any PP time. Girgs has scored 30 points once --- on a top line with Ennis and Moulson. We need middle 6 scoring talent. Girgs is a good player, a solid defensive forward, but that contract is going to look worse and worse each year with the flat cap and we rely on rookies to carry the middle. Give Girgs 1.8 and use the excess cash from that contract to get Kahun up to 2.5 and it makes more sense. (And I know they're technically on opposite wings.)
  8. A penalty-killing whiz you say? Like Frolik?
  9. Once you win a Cup you don't need cash. We're going to pay Girgs almost two-and-a-half times each season as Maroon.
  10. 3 years for Tage, 3 years for Girgs. We're getting the band back together.
  11. In the grand story that is the Sabres franchise that would be appropriate.
  12. I hope Kahun signs with us. It was a limited sample size but I liked what he brought. If he can do a modest 3-year/2.75 or 3x3 that gives stability during flat cap years that's better than a 1-year arbitration winning that nets him $4M. But likewise, if Toffoli were to sign here and it's in effect Kahun or Toffoli, I'm fine with that trade off. I don't want to have to pencil Tage into the 2RW to start the season. That seems inappropriate for the needs of the team.
  13. Win a big race, save your love's planet from invasion, be estranged for 10 years, upon reunion get all clingy and creepy, murder some natives, and lose an arm... voila: wedding bells!
  14. We're a bit off topic, but I think now (7 here out west) is the perfect opportunity to remind everyone for the first time that we had a draft today.... or rather a Disbursement of Rookies Amidst Franchised Teams.
  15. Well ****-dang! CLUB isn't a club, but instead an acronym? Teachable moments abound! This made my day as well. It's like a TIE fighter was so-named because it resembled a bow-tie on set. Then later they had to give it an acronym to make sense. Much obliged!
  16. We did very poorly on my EA NHL cool names to draft rankings board. I like JJ Peterka though. Constantini or Istanbu...
  17. Lede. I try not to be that person because I speak in Star Wars quotes and I do enough proofreading in my day job. But it's such a beautiful word and it's a specific term that gets misused unless you're in the business. The more you know (cue the gif of the star... or of Flint saying "and knowing is half the battle").
  18. There's also the question of whether Sheevyn can replace Kahun with a better player who agrees to a contract for less money as they all get the squeeze. And I like Kahun's contribution (and like especially what he did as a mid-line tweener with Chicago and Malkin/Pitt the last two seasons).
  19. you mean Effective, Efficient, and Economical. 🍺
  20. What? Duclair and Kahun are valuable parts of any team in this league and they're getting the absolute squeeze with the flat cap. There's no middle class in the NHL the next 3 years.
  21. Either we're extending (likely) or he was going to command 4M in arbitration or there's some sort of warning sign where he keeps being moved. We will learn patience.
