Three seasons. That was the longest streak without playoffs that Sabres fans have ever had to endure. Three. 2001-04. Counting this soon-to-be-done season, the Pegulas have owned the Sabres for 11 full seasons. We have not made playoffs even a single time during this ownership. Something is pathetic here, and it's not the lack of support from the fans.

I watched Everything Everywhere All at Once a couple days ago, and it was weird and great. I don't watch many movies, but it's currently the best of the year for me.

It's all arbitrary. People that like to focus on wins instead of points can aim for 45 wins, which has never failed to make playoffs. I don't really care; I mainly just like finding oddities (like the fact that a team actually *has* gone above 0.600 without playoffs, or how the 1925 Hamilton Tigers finished with the best record and lost 0 playoff games but were not the league champions (their players went on strike demanding an extra $200 due to the season being 6 games longer (the championship was forfeited to Montreal and the players were fined $200))).

Well, if you're going to discount that particular instance, then you might as well pick .586 as "the number that ACTUALLY matters" since all that still applies. Or even .590 for a rounder number.

Doing more research into this (thanks, procrastination), the 14-15 Bruins, 17-18 Panthers, and 18-19 Canadiens are all tied for second best P% without playoffs, with .585

And for anyone who's curious, our best record without playoffs was the 08-09 season when we went 41-32-9 (DeLuca .500, .555 P%).

The 69-70 Canadiens had a .605 points percentage and failed to make the playoffs. It seems 0.606 P% is the number that actually matters.

Certainly only a moral victory, but I'm sure everyone could do with a morale boost.

Not to jinx it or anything, but we still mathematically have a chance to finish above the bottom 10, something we haven't done since Pegula's first full season as owner.

It's $7.41 million after 3 years. If released before 6/1 of that year, it would be a $7.410 million hit in 2025. If released on or after 6/1, it becomes a $3.705 million hit in 2025 and 2026.

I think this is how it breaks down: He will receive $19.97 million in actual cash for '22, which is $1.12 million base salary + $18.525 million signing bonus + $225k roster bonus + $100k workout bonus. It looks like the signing bonus gets amortized five years, which is where the discrepancy comes into play. So $18.525 million / 5 gets counted against the '22 cap. That makes the cap hit $1.12 million base salary + $3.705 million + $225k roster bonus + $100k workout bonus which equals $5.15 million.

Duke Johnson was mentioned a page back. Greg Mancz is a guy with 9 starts in the last 4 years, clearly a depth signing.

I also think he can still play. I think it's a combo of his salary and declining play. If his cap hit for the upcoming season had been, say, $3 million instead of $7.6 million, I bet he's still on the team.

In his three seasons with us, he's had: 4.9 > 4.3 > 3.7. There's a clear trend there. And his yards before catch also dropped this season: 6.7 > 7.5 > 4.7, and his average depth of target went 8.0 > 7.8 > 5.6. And one of Beane's first comments after the season was that he wanted players who can get yards after the catch, with the images of Hill's huge TD against us presumably on his mind.

Beasley was too expensive and his performance was dropping. His YAC plummeted this year, presumably because he's losing a step.
