  1. Berglund is 100% a solid NHL player. Sobotka is borderline but still better than what we had.
  2. Alex Burrows retired
  3. Tampa has so many great pieces to give that it feels like it’ll be hard to underwhelm. It might not end up being the names everybody has in the front of their minds, but it’ll be a good package. Tampa being this close on Karlsson is also further evidence that the cap is not a worry for good teams.
  4. I wouldn’t call anything of two years an albatross. And I imagine they’ll get a significant asset but more in the form of a first or top prospect, not another expensive asset. Especially since the acquiring team will have no use for someone like Johnson who is 27.
  5. I don’t get the feeling they’ll need to add a player like Palat or Johnson to get a team to take Callahan. TB accomplishes their current offseason cap goal by moving Callahan so they wouldn’t need to shed Johnson/Palat immediately, and the acquiring team likely wouldn’t want to take on Callahan AND another salary of that amount at this point in the offseason.
  6. I've only seen one report that a trade call was being done, but I don't trust any of them as much as I trust Friedman. I do imagine this thing gets done with all the noise around it.
  7. The real issue with Reinhart lies deeper than just typical stats. It's something your everyday fan/armchair GM can't grasp. You see, if you take a deeper look at analytics on him it boils down to one very simple thing that holds him back. It's not just the 2nd overall pick or that he's not a center. Those are both good takes, but they really miss the point. The REAL issue... is that his first name is Samson but people don't call him that enough. It's a really good name.
  8. Erne is older than both Bailey and Baptiste (and Fasching for good measure). He's not somebody that interests me in the slightest. IF we were the team to take on Callahan I'd want something better than that. It'd likely just have to be a pick or prospect since clearing Callahan would give Tampa enough room to take in Karlsson until his extension kicks in next offseason. I'm only interested in Callahan if we can get Taylor Raddysh or Anthony Cirelli.
  9. Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger Tampa Bay and Ottawa continue to work on an Erik Karlsson trade. The NYR may be involved as Lightning need cap room. Callahan back to NY?
  10. That tweet was mentioned above. It's also been backed up by a couple other reporters saying they're hearing the same thing. For the record, I do not think we'll be getting involved here. Tampa will be able to find value by sending somebody out of the division and, as mentioned before, won't really need to clear much this offseason to get him in. Next offseason becomes very expensive and tricky, but they could make a big run and then dump salary next offseason for similar value.
  11. I thought it was sort of weird, but I like it. 3 and 7 are the two numbers humans are most likely to randomly select between one and ten. He seems like the type that doesn't care too much about his number (and there's nothing wrong with caring about what number you wear). He had previously worn: 11 with team USA & in HS (retired) 14 with team USA (retired) 16 with team USA (retired) 20 with the USHL & team USA (taken by Scott Wilson) 21 with Minnesota (taken by Kyle Okposo) 22 with team USA (taken by Johan Larsson) He wore 77 in dev camp but likely didn't have a connection to it and never officially wore it with the team.
  12. 37 was his choice
  13. We can factually say that while many very credible journalists said the Sabres were asking for the third pick from Montreal in trade talks surrounding O’Reilly that Botterill and Bergevin had a “private” meeting in the stands at the draft just before it kicked off. We can also say that Bergevin confirmed discussions with Buffalo specifically about O’Reilly.
  14. They’ve been dating for a while now, so I imagine the trying period passed some time ago. Yes.
  15. One nobody should be making. Inappropriate.
  16. A lot of people very strongly express and believe that bad opinion.
  17. What surgery?
  18. I will forever rail against this as one of the dumbest sports opinions. It’s condescending and useless. What are people accomplishing by telling somebody else what they can and can’t wear and why do you care so much? Let people spend their money and wear their money how they want.
  19. Giving the captaincy to anybody but Eichel is a stupid waste of time. Stop dicking around and give him the C. I also still have no idea if this is legit, for the record. I just know Lou is connected but is also the type to want attention at all turns. Seems like a really strange rumor to bring up, though.
  20. Kane and O’Reilly combined don’t have the value Karlsson does. And I’m not saying they absolutely will be able to attach Ryan but there’s no way they both don’t attach him AND take on salary in the process.
  21. To be fair they didn’t immediately win cups. They had another coach (Mike Johnston) in between Bylsma and Sullivan.
  22. They just re-signed Wideman and the conversation isn’t worth having if you’re dumping cap on them without taking any cap off them. Their trying like hell to attach Ryan to this deal, so it’s clear what they want to do.
  23. I still think it’s got maybe a 0.3% chance of happening but... present YOUR package for Karlsson. What’s the most you would give if you’re getting just Karlsson? What’s the most you would give if you’re also bringing Ryan’s contract back? Assume you’re getting him with an extension of 8x$11M done. For me if we are going to get involved... WITH Ryan’s contract: Reinhart, Nylander, Bogo, a first and a second WITHOUT Ryan’s contract: Risto, Asplund and the two weakest first’s from the three upcoming we have
  24. The Sabres store does it - bought a Leino for $35 on clearance and got it switched at the Sabres store to Reinhart. I believe it’s $30 for the nameplate.
