Sean McDermott is known for being a good “leader of men” and gets a bunch of credit for the way he talks, but I think when you actually listen he deflects blame way too much. Two comments he made in particular on Monday after the game stick out. And they’re things he’s said or alluded to before. 1. “There’s a lot of hands in the jar” when it comes to the QB position. 2. “We’re in year two of the rebuild.” On the first: this is true, sure, but you’re the head coach. Take control. You’ve got to be able to at least say you’re in control. If a situation gets ugly you can’t just fall back on “well, it’s not REALLY up to me” every time. It is. If you decide you want Peterman benches you make it happen. Or if you don’t, you do that. This just smells like someone trying to make sure there’s plenty of blame to go around for the Peterman embarrassment. On the second: the context of this was that they’re in year two of a rebuild. And he specifically stated they’re not “accumulating talent” but “building.” This is basically just an admission that there isn’t much talent on the roster which points strongly to the front office. You were in year one of a rebuild last year and fell into the playoffs.

I guess I’d want to see it compared to other areas but this doesn’t feel like good enough “risk” to have it as a focal point of an offense. At least not for anyone without studs on the blue line. Mmmm Rasmus Dahlin.

I don’t know where to put this but this is a bit of an eye opener.
-
Yea, I’d be concerned with management for sure.
-
Nope. The fans made a choice to be giant shitheads. She handled it with grace once it came to the end of the game.

How’s THAT for data. Oh Lordy, can we please stop blaming the wrong people for social media lunatics?

Stevie Y is indeed heading back to Detroit after this season, per reports. Tampa Bay should be livid this somehow transpired. BriseBois is very good, though.

This franchise is so allergic to high-end talent that the fan base is even allergic to it. If they land at number one they should pick at number one. We weren’t in position to trade for Khalil Mack or sign Kirk Cousins or yada yada. There’s a pretty decent list of teams in the top handful of picks that traded out and ended up with nothing or little to show for it.

To me, players should be punished with fines whenever they destroy equipment on the court or in the view of fans. It's childish and one of the few moments I will definitively say it's a poor influence and poor use of emotion. However, it should never impact the result of your contest unless you're risking someone else's well being or equipment. Or if it's excessive (baseball players should be automatically ejected if they thrash the dugout).

I didn’t watch any of it but seeing “we are ABOUT TO launch” a rebuild plan doesn’t give me hope lol

Who Will Have a Better Season - Bills or Sabres?
Hoss replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Will the Sabres have eight times as many wins as the Bills? Nine? -
That’s a good

McDermott spoke just now. A few notes: - they’re still evaluating the QB position - he does not question the effort or intensity from Sunday - they’re in year two of the rebuild and are focused on building a team, not accumulating talent (we noticed)
-
Maybe. But they’re certainly not among the lesgue’s elite. They’re not even as talented as the LA Chargers team that did it to us last year.

It doesn’t matter at what point your franchise is. If you feel you’re a contender you go for it always. The purpose is to win championships. Now, whether the moves they’ve made (adding Pacioretty and Stastny while moving on from Neal and Perron) get them over the top remains to be seen. Also, can someone point me to evidence that the late birthday thing for your draft year means anything? I see it mentioned but have never seen anything to support that it means anything.

There’s still so much to digest. One thing that’s as jarring as anything else is that the loss came to a Baltimore team that, very likely, isn’t very good overall. Always feisty and well coached. Flacco was going through the motions on some of those chunk plays. Zero push back. I’m certainly not feeling good about where this team is and where it is going. I had been saying for most of the offseason they’d be atrocious but that was below even those expectations. The big draw right now is the youth in Josh Allen, Tremaine Edmunds, Tre White and not much else. The safeties both struggled mightily yesterday but could bounce back and are still cheap/young. The offensive line has Dion Dawkins and then a bunch of garbage so hopefully this doesn’t ruin him. Beyond those names idk where the exciting youth comes from right now. Harrison Phillips seems destined for depth duty. The other draw is the cap space. That’s huge. But there’s several teams (Oakland, Cleveland, Jacksonville, Washington) that spent YEARS at the top of the heap of teams with cap space and couldn’t manage to get out of the hole. The Jags did finally when the signings all lined up and worked out and Oakland has a blip where they did, too. Can you get guys to sign in Buffalo? Will they bust out after getting overpaid even if slightly? Are the right guys available? This feels like they’re already looking at wasting several years of Allen’s rookie deal. Every move from here to next year has to be pinpoint perfect. Not even the Corey Coleman meaningless “misstep.” Benjamin appears to be bust already. Lotulelei played less than 50% of snaps. Murphy doesn’t seem near healthy (at least I hope not). So it’s not looking good as far as what’s been coming out of the front office in the last year. Allen is still the possible trump card if he quickly becomes elite but we’ll see. Edmunds looked very good, so he could be a difference maker on defense.

That’s a good deal for Montreal. I like Suzuki. They got a pick, too, and Tatar should still be useful once he gets back on track.
-
12–8 week one is meh, but Andy Reid is definitely one of the few known QB gurus left. Allen, Mahomes and Watson will forever be linked for the Bills. As will Allen, Rosen and Jackson.
-
How so? He’s a top ten player in the league. Top two or three defensive players. This team needs talent and a lot of it. They’re not going to find a player near his level with a million draft picks. And they would’ve gotten a second rounder back, which is still hilarious.
-
He was traded. For things the Bills have.
-
Ripped the ball out of Hundley’s arms for a strip suck and recovery (ball never touched the ground). Then he got a pick six. He’s had a couple other pressures.
-
Khalil Mack is going to be as bad a whiff as any of the recent QBs for the Bills... and they whiffed on him twice.
-
We could’ve used Khalil Mack today.... And Tyron Smith. And Julio Jones. And Tom Brady.
-
Big Ben is far above mediocre. If he has a bad day it’s because the opposing defense played at a high level. Same can’t be said for my boy Tyrod (I will state once again that I am a huge Tyrod fan as a Va Tech fan).
