  1. I'm not even sure what this means. What would it take to accomplish that? The Sabres have traded and signed for more grit at the expense of addressing their most glaring need (scoring). That doesn't exorcise those demons?
  2. This is also the most anti-waffle administration in recent memory yet there are still Eggos in the store! The federal government never stops do they?
  3. Are we still talking about this? We really need to let this go. It was ugly. It was pathetic. It upset me too. But it was 9 months ago. It's time to move on from this.
  4. Canada v USA soccer. Wish I could watch it. C'mon Abby!!!!
  5. Even if it made sense financially, the F'N center would be way too big. It would ruin the atmosphere. For example, Rochester had an indoor football team that used to play at the Main St Armory which held 3000 people. The attendance for the first season was 2200 per game. In a 3000 person arena, 2200 screaming lunatics created an insane atmosphere. The next year they moved to the Blue Cross Arena which holds 10,000 people. The same 2200 attended. But in a 10000 person arena, 2200 people seems empty
  6. How do we define Olympics greatness? I think there need to be some restrictions: 1. It needs to be an individual or paired sport I think this goes without saying. Teams play off each other too much to really identify one player. I'm comfortable including pairs, just not teams. Relays count toward an indivual's records. This eliminates basketball, soccer, handball, field hockey, and volleyball. 2. Longevity counts...in context It's important to note that shooters, swimmers, and gymnasts do not have the same staying power. A female gymnast is past her prime at 19. Being a gymnast in two Games is as impressive as being a swimmer in four or a shooter in six. 3. Relevance and celebrity matter You have to be popular and your sport has to be relevant to at least two of USA, EU, USSR/China (USSR Pre 1992, China post) 4. You have to have won. A lot. 5. The Olympics need to be the premier event for your sport. You aren't a great tennis player or golfer by winning gold. The majors outshine the Olympics. I feel the Ryder and Davis cups are even more important National events to their sport. With 20 metals (and counting), Phelps is certainly in the discussion. But given the criteria above, who are his competitors (and feel free to chime in as I undoubtedly left people off) 1. Carl Lewis -- Won the Long Jump in 84, 88, 92, and 96 and no one else has ever repeated at long jump once. he has 10 metals and 9 golds. He won the 100M sprint in 84 and 88 (one of the iconic Olympic events). However, he has been tied to PED use. Also, 84 was a boycotted Games. 2. Jesse Owens - The man who outran Hitler. He won 4 gold metals in 1936. He couldn't keep competing because he needed to work. 3. Nadia Comaneci -- The first to score a perfect 10. She won the All Around in 76 (one of the iconic Olympic events) and silver in the All Around in 80. She won 5 golds, 3 silvers, and a bronze. Two Olympics is a ton for a gymnast. 4. Alexander Karelin -- The greatest wrestler of all time. He won Gold in 88, 92, and 96. He won silver in 2000 at age 33. That was Karelin's first loss....ever. 5. Larisa Latynina - The woman who's record Phelps broke. She won gold in the All Around in 56 and 60 and had 17 metals total. 6. Jackie Joyner Kersee - She won Gold in the Heptatholon in 88 and 92. She won six Olympic metals in a very compettive time for women's track and field. She metaled in four Olympics (84, 88, 92, 96). Carl Lewis would be my vote if it wasn't for the PEDs. The accusations were never proved, but it's enough for me to give Phelps the edge. In my opinion, Michael Phelps is the greatest Olympic athlete of all time. 16 gold metals, 20 total metals. He had gold in 4 Olympic games and no one ever dominated an Olympics like Phelps dominated 2008.
  7. Going with Ralph Lauren was a terrible idea. I want the Olympic jackets to be tackey as crap. Like this:
  8. The Niagara Ice Dogs are in the OHL. That being said, I do think Buffalo can support two junior hockey teams. If they put one in a southern suburb (West Seneca? Lackawanna?)
  9. Did anyone else notice the Amerks hat on Gabby Douglass's brother? It was amazing!
  10. The bolded part is why I'm glad they were thrown out. Good riddance to bad rubbish. I do see the parallels to tanking on a season, and that is often defended. I just see the hypocrisy is all. Yes :flirt:
  11. Everyone hates it. The question is, if you can game the system to gain an advantage, why not? Shouldnt' South Korea and Indonesia do everything they can to get a gold medal. Isn't that the point?
  12. Isn't like an NFL team tanking for that first overall pick? Should they be DQed for that? Short term loss for long term gain?
  13. This kind of seems like a legit (albeit Bush league) strategy. I don't know that they should be DQ for it.
  14. I don't understand this post. Is it international basketball, basketball in general, this specific American team, or the NBA that bothers you?
  15. Am I bad person for laughing at this? I think that makes me a bad person
  16. I've been re-watching Hitchock movies. Even after 52 years, Psycho is an incredible movie. You can really see the influence Psycho had on Haloween and Friday the 13th. I feel the slasher craze of the 70s never takes off if Psycho wasn't available as a reference.
  17. This is what I'm talking about. I too have nothing to back this up with. Even odder is that I no longer feel that way. Maybe I just got more cynical?
  18. Sir. Are you telling me that the Bradley/Pacquiao was not on the up and up? Surely you jest. The odd part is, I feel Olympic boxing used to be way less corrupt. What happened?
  19. I'd like this event better if the horses got the accolades (like in horse racing.) Especially since seeing the horses on the podiums would be amazing. I can't stand the gun events. (I think archery is OK.) I respect the amount of practice and sacrifice, but some of those "athletes" don't look like they could make it up flights of stairs. While I don't think it's dumb, I can't watch table tennis. HD has made this a little better but I struggle to follow the ball.
  20. Apaprently I was overstating the amount of hitting in lacrosse and field hockey anyway, so I will have to take your word on this. Now that we've hijacked this thread, let's get back on to the Olympics... Yesterday, WGR was talking about the dumbest Olympic sport. Anyone have any thoughts?
  21. I don't get that though. Tyler Ennis could get checked by Zdeno Chara. I find women's hockey interesting, I just don't understand why they can't hit. Seems weird.
  22. That is 100% true and I don't even remotely understand it. Why can't women hit? Can anyone explain that to me? Women's field hockey and lacrosse players crack each other constantly
  23. For those who are curious: http://www.nbcolympics.com/results-schedules/index.html That lists the schedule of events on a neat interactive menu. You can find your local coverage by putting in your ZIP code on the right hand side.
