They have been on a 105 point pace for their last 32 games. It's actually more than 1/3 of a season.

What is different this year so far, through 4 games...

So he is basically in the same spot he was last year in this ranking. -

-I love Hinostroza...he is like a gnat that is all over the place annoying the other team with his speed. He also has some scoring touch and is probably good for 10-15 goals a year. -Comrie was 2nd in the NHL last year at goals saved above expected/60 behind only Shesterkin. And Winnipeg actually gave up more shots per game than the Sabres did playing a similar style of D...it's not like they were some stone wall he was benefitting from. There is a good chance he becomes an above average goalie for us with the extra time. At worst, he might be league average which is still a huge upgrade over where we were. -D seems to have WAY better defensive zone positioning than I can remember over the past decade. Very rarely do you see a player chasing a guy behind the net leaving wide open players in the slot or on the side of the goalie. They pick up trailers pretty well and force tough passes to players near the net who are covered. They also pass off players exceptionally well to the next guy. It's pretty impressive considering how young they are. Lots of contested plays on passes in their own end...way more than I ever remember. -Need to do better at stopping silly turnovers in their own end trying to do "cute" plays like drop passes to teammates with the other team nearby. I expect they will get this cleaned up as the year goes on. -PP has been brutal which is surprising considering how good it was last year most of the season. -Peterka looks like he isn't going anywhere. He looks like he belongs here...surprisingly more than Quinn does, who likely will be headed back to Rochester at some point if he continues doing not much of anything. -Samuelsson looks really good most times in his own end. Very calm, very under control. -Lyubushkin has brought a very much needed physical/nasty presence to the D corp. He seems to enjoy hitting people, physical play and isn't afraid to get his gloves dirty in the corner and in front of the net. -This team is FAST. Really FAST. Constantly getting odd man opportunities seemingly out of nowhere due to their speed. -

agreed...perhaps we were better and not allowing that many shots? -
Apparently the NHL uses a company called Supponor
-
The one where it showed the team logos and then contracted to like 5 or 6 logos was freaking awesome last night!

Goaltending remains this organization’s biggest question mark.

Exactly where he was last year...at least in goals saved above expected/60 -

Wow...guess it's a night for history...first Dahlin and then Comrie became the first Sabre goalie in franchise history to record two consecutive game 40+ save wins... -

This team is going to be much better than most people thought. I still don't see them in the playoffs but my prediction of 87-90 points doesn't look at far fetched as a lot of people said before the season started -

I think we are seeing that 102 point pace since the end of February last year was not a fluke. -

Guess the NHL says Baldy doesn't count for that record! https://mobile.twitter.com/PR_NHL/status/1582582332917092353 -

Why does Sylvester keep saying he is the only defenseman to score 4 goals in the first four games? He isn't, he tied the record set over 90 years ago tho... -

I hope so. Anderson played really well in game 1, but he was mostly awful last year metrics wise. I hope Subban isn't mentoring at all...the dude sucks. -
The Eichel 2022-23 Thread: "I'm not bitter -- I'm just interested."
matter2003 replied to SDS's topic in The Aud Club
The only thing Eichel ever bought into was himself. He is a player who cares more about his stats than he does about the team winning. When things are going great, he is fine...but when things aren't, he isn't the type of player who is going to pull your team out of it...in fact, he is the type of player who is going to make it worse with his sulking and crap attitude. He is the type of player that you might add to an already great roster but is never going to take a team anywhere as the leader. He just doesn't have the makeup for that. When you have to fix a team that is underperforming the most important thing you need to do is to remove the people who are making it impossible to get the bus going in the right direction via their attitude, their effect on other players on the team, etc. Obviously the Sabres determined that Eichel, Reinhart and Risto were the people that had to get off the bus. So far they appear to be correct in that judgement. -
Of course...nobody is. But even with league average goaltending, that would be a giant win for the Sabres. True enough but just because you are a good player doesn't mean you fit in the same with on the lines with other players or who they are playing with. Not saying they they won't just that it isn't that easy. It's not NHL 22 where you just make whatever trade and the players play the same no matter what.
-
The dropoff with Comrie won't be as far as most people think...his metrics were outstanding last year and there is no reason to think he shouldn't be very good.
-
Probably bone bruise which although is minor hurts really bad
-
The best thing two things for me is their defensive zone coverage which I think is light-years ahead of any time in the last decade and the goaltending. I expect Comrie to come back to earth a little but still be really good. His metrics say he was a really good goalie last year not lucky. Played on a team very similar to ours in terms of giving up a lot of shots and similar types of shots. Calgary should not be quite as good after losing Gadreau(sp?) and Tkachuk
