Stastny is a poor number 1 or a very good number 2. He is better than Derek Roy, but not by much and he has a poor playoff point record, albeit the sample size is poor. The Flyers have missed the playoffs once in the last 17 seasons. Let's not pretend Briere was their saviour. I fail to see why you are comparing our wins to their wins? This team has not missed the playoffs simply because Briere has gone so it is an irrelevant point. Prior to Briere the Flyers won an average of 6.2 games a playoffs. With Briere it is 6.8 - that to me is not a huge difference (especially considering the with-briere sample is smaller). The Flyers have always been good in the post season because they have always been willing to pay for a good team. Interesting fact: Since black sunday the Sabres and Briere have won the same number of stanley cups Don't get me wrong, i think he is a big time player, but i don't think he is as good as people pretend he is.

I'd happily take a 50 point player who is defensively responsible over a 70 point player who isn't. Briere worked in Buffalo because Pommers and Hecht are damn good two-way players and could cover him

Firstly, what is Danny Briere potential? In the last 5 full seasons he has played his points have been: 95, 72, 53, 68 and 49. Those numbers are all over the shop. But as 3 are around or above the 70 mark, i'll assume that is the DB potential. Secondly, Ennis could learn to play better defence than DB. Which would make him a much more useful as a centre. Thus, if his upper limit is 70 points and a 2-way forward, then yes i think that is probably his upper limit. I also think that he is way overvalued here. He was pretty ###### the first half of the season and really only became a force in the last 20 games. Right now i seem him as a wild card. A 60 point season wouldn't shock me, but then neither would a 30-40. I also think he is of limited use to other teams. LR has dealt with small forwards for almost a decade, the players around him have as well, but most teams wouldn't trade much for him (my personal opinion). He also needs to hit the gym and take some protein shake. There is no way he should weigh less than 175lbs i think. I am not sure Stastny is a true number 1 centre - at the very least he is not a strong one. I don't see him as much of an upgrade over the three centres we have, bar simply being older. Having said that, i like him as a player so would like him on this team

I disagree with the quote. We had a bad season, i think we bounce back and i think our young guys step up more.

They have said they are moving J Staal to wing to play with E Staal and Sutter is gone. So they have Staal and Skinner (which is still a great 1-2 punch). However, their wingers leave a lot to be desired. They seem to be trying to use the Pens model to win a cup. Only Staal is no Crosby and Skinner is no Malkin. Moreover, their d is one of the weakest in the league. I think they finish 8/9th

I'm surprised no-one mentioned it before. I think it was a really good deal $4mil per. Guy throws over 130 hits a season and can put up 50-60 points. Makes Bobby Ryan look expensive

I think that presents Leino a little unfairly...He is not a liability in his own end, he is our best forward in the corners, his ability to shield the puck is amazing and he is capable of being a 40-50 point scorer. This was his first year of a big contract. He rarely takes a penalty. He had more takeways than giveaways. I think next season he will be a decent 2nd line or awesome 3rd line guy (depending how others work out). He barely shoots - that is one of his biggest problems, only 78 shots

They are/have recently brought in a 50p per unit tax - which doesn't really affect beer or wine, but it means that you can't get a cheap bottle of vodka for £7 anymore :/

How many cans/bottles in a case? It is like £5 for a 6-pack so like just under $8 EDIT: 2 x 15 packs of Fosters or Carlsberg is $30 at the moment in my local supermarket

I believe that was the highest ranked fight of the year on hockeyfights.com For me, my favourite moment in the season was the Washington game as it gave me hope we would not just make the playoffs but we would be a force. And my single favourite moment is Pominville's SH goal in the game. He showed why LR chose him to be a captain. I liked it

They traded Gomez for McDonagh, buried Redden in the minors (yes that hurts the owner, but if he is willing to do it, then oh well) and Drury retired. Whilst those guys played for them they finished 5th, 7th and 9th. So not exactly flying by, but hardly suffering too badly because of it. Compare that to the Sabres who were responsible with their money....

Nah, always had a soft spot for ice hockey (mainly cos of the mighty duck films) - watched winter olympics in 06 - loved the hockey. Afterwards, started looking on NHL website, picked a few teams i liked (based on logo) then watched them play and liked the Sabres the most. The team which came in second was the pens (maybe i made the wrong decision?) :P But i have no relatives in America. Seen the Sabres play once, was gonna see them when they came to Europe, but couldn't find anyone to go with so decided it wouldn't be worth the money. When did you move here? Yeah i am young - 21
