WTF have Risto and Okposo done to have letters? They've been largely hot garbage this year.
-
Now I'm the one who went too far. As a man who defended Drew Stafford's market value contract, I don't want my point to be to never pay market value for non-elite players. But I do think caution needs to be exercised, and sometimes you do just have to say no. In a cap league with slow cap growth, you simply can't pay everyone. Even the best teams let really good players walk and hope to replace from within with lottery tickets.
-
I can see why you would interpret it that way, but I wouldn't go quite so far. I would be willing to pay that for truly elite offensive players (the other Kane, Tarasenko, Kucherov, etc.), forwards who add significant value beyond their offense (Kopitar and Bergeron, and yes, O'Reilly types), and possession-generating defensemen who can eat up top competition and big minutes (Drew Doughty, I'm looking at you!). Paying full market value to Okposo-level players in their upper-20s generally doesn't appeal to me, nor do I think it ensures mediocrity any more than having a few ugly long-term contracts does.

Some people believed this, but it was hardly everyone. I thought they were, at best, a bubble team (I believe this was the prevailing sentiment). And once Eichel went down, I personally felt it killed the playoff hopes. I said last year I thought Bylsma cost the team about 5-6 points. Certainly not the difference between being a contender and drafting in the lottery, but also not trivial. Besides, firing a bad coach does not inherently mean the replacement will be any good.
-
No, you did not. You got treated like a red-headed pokey for saying the roster was the only problem and/or it was impossible to judge Bylsma with that roster. Not an insignificant difference there.

For how long? While some are certainly concerned about him off the ice, I'm not one of them. By far my biggest worry with Kane is longevity of performance. Given his history and style of play, it's not unreasonable to be hesitant to fork over 7 years to him. He'll be 27 when the contract starts, which is painfully close to the point where offense starts to fall off. And lord knows Kane doesn't bring enough defensively to compensate if his offense slips to a meaningful degree. Okposo is only 29 and looks to be a shell of his former self. I completely understand wanting to keep our best players and keep building that way. It's totally valid. But Kane has never had more than 57 points in a season, and that was in 2011-12. His highest total since then was 43. This year he's at essentially a point per game. I don't expect him to keep up this pace for the entire season, but if he does, and he wants a contract commensurate with a point per game player, I don't think it's unreasonable to argue it could be in the team's best interest to move him. Paying Kane as a ~75 point player, for (presumably) 7 years, when he's never come close to that in his career, is tremendously risky. His ability to generate even strength offense from anywhere in the lineup carries significant value, and it's something I'm willing to pay for. But if he wants to get paid based on this season's production, I'm probably going to take a pass.

So you basically gambled on a couple of penny stocks. I'll allow it.
-
I don't think it is. But for your sake, I do hope it's the lowest point your gambling decisions have ever gotten.
-
So, all those people who said Tyrod misses open guys all the time were right. They just failed to mention those open guys play for the other team.
-
We lose by fewer points than we would by playing the second half.
-
Yea, but he's thrown them from the pocket and with the ball coming out on time! And picks are just like punts anyway, or so I've been told.
-
Has a coach ever apologized to an entire locker room at halftime before? Because McDermott should probably do that.
-
Until proven otherwise, I'm just assuming he's busy plotting McDermott's assassination. Seems like it'd be 6 or 7, but I'm honestly not sure.
-
He should, but part of me thinks if he were going to bench Peterman, he would have by now.
-
As much as I'm enjoying the McDermott snark in a self-loathing Buffalo fan kind of way...he really can't keep tossing Peterman out there, can he? He should've been intercepted a fifth time!
-
    Serious question: When McDermott said he thought Peterman gave them the best chance to win, was he lying, or just completely incompetent?
-
Looks like you and Sean "Process" McDermott have something in common :nana:
-
Was it Flagg who predicted Peterman would have 4 picks? I'm cheating since the game has already started, but I'll take the over... But, but but...I thought it was all Tyrod's fault for being short and holding the ball too long? Tyrod's legs avoided way more sacks than his pocket presence created.
-
Neither are half the AFC playoff teams.
-

-
Nothing, but if I'm going to occupy a very Buffalo-like place in the standings, I may as well beat teams I have no business beating :)
-
There's a massive difference between not having a cannon arm, and having a noodle. Peterman does not have an NFL arm. He's like post-surgery Chad Pennington.
-
My team is terrible, yet I knocked Ink out of 1st and I'm 2 games above getting a horrible avatar. I'll take it!
-
Likely #1, and certainly #2.

Benching Tyrod for Peterman is dumb.
