The Sabres have lost 19 games by 1 goal, and an additional 4 games by 2 in which an empty netter has been scored. This means they've been within 1 goal in 23 of their losses by the end of the game. If we had a good goalie, maybe we win 13 of those games? That puts us close to playoff contention. If GMKA has a strong off-season and brings in a real goalie for UPL to back-up, and spends some money to bring in established D-men who can both contribute and mentor Power/Dahlin, we're going to be making the playoffs next year. You have another year of development for Tage, Mitts, Krebs, Cozens plus brining up JJ & Quinn? It'll be an interesting off-season because we'll have to hit the floor. I'd like to see us throw a similar deal we gave Hall to Patty Kane. 1 year / 9 million. Put him on a line with Quinn and Cozens or something.

I've seen worse odds. I'm surprised Fitzgerald hasn't been sent down to help out Rochester. Maybe I'm only remembering his gaffes and not his better plays but I recall him having some BAD shifts the past few games. I don't understand why we're scratching Miller/Pysysk each night when Fitzgerald could have been down in Rochester helping them in any way possible. Rochester making the playoffs seems like it'd do a lot more for the development for many of our younger players by getting Krebs, Quinn, JJ, Samuelson, etc all playoff experience.

It feels like it's been way too long since the Sabres last played. Hopefully this interruption won't throw off their rhythm. Hoping to see them finish strong. If I were GMKA I'd call up Quinn to give him one more taste of the show and then send him and Fitzgerald back down to Rochester so he can help them get the last win needed to hopefully qualify for the playoffs. I think Tage pops in two tonight to set RJ up to call one more 40th goal scorer tomorrow.

If i'm understanding what's stated up thread, for Rochester to get into the playoffs they need to win their last game on Friday, 29th and Toronto has to lose their remaining games?

Vegas has not looked like a team whose life is on the line the past two games. Yikes.

A 10 11 page GTD thread for a Stars game? This beats out some GDTs during the Eichel era. Does this mean we care again? I watched the entire game and there were times I caught myself thinking, "I wish they'd cycle the puck a little more like the Sabres, get some chances" and that struck me that this is the first hockey game I've watched in OVER A DECADE where the offense was less exciting than the Sabres. Both teams were missing passes, but Dallas at least looked like they wanted that win, you could see it in their forecheck. Vegas seemed checked out and the game shouldn't have been as close as it was. Their first goal went was an own-goal from the Dallas D and the second came off a power play from a penalty Dallas took behind the Vegas net. The refs put away their whistle in the 3rd to help keep it close. That shootout was a nailbiter, especially because i put some $$$ on Dallas to win which I assumed would then guarantee a Dallas loss.

It's 90% draft pick and 10% a FU to Eichel. Had he not had that embarrassing post-game presser I wouldn't give a crap about Jack. He made it personal.

Remaining Schedule: VEGAS: DALLAS (93), CHICAGO (65), ST LOUIS (109) DALLAS: VEGAS (90), COYOTES (51), DUCKS (74) Game 81 for each team is against a bottom feeder, so you can assume the 2 points for each team. Dallas's last game is against a non-playoff team vs Ducks, and VGK plays ST LOUIS. Even if Dallas loses tonight it'd still be a tall order for Vegas to catch them. But they can get the job done tonight.

This is the first year in a loooong time where the end of the season doesn't leave me thinking, "thank god it's almost over". It's been so refreshing to watch fun hockey again. Next year I'm putting $100 towards the Sabres making the playoffs if the odds look right and will use those winnings to buy a ticket to Game 6 of the stanley cup finals in Key Bank Center in which we clinch the series, 4-2 vs Vegas, raising the cup at home.

I agree, not putting the stadium downtown is a poor decision for the future of Buffalo. Imagine if it went in the area of the old central terminal, and eventually built up the rail infrastructure to bring people in/out for game days. Yes, it'd be way more expensive and would take years upon year to complete, but it was radically transform that area of the city and I'd support any amount of public money being used to revitalize an economically depressed area. Instead we're giving welfare handouts to the Pegulas to keep their status quo alive in Orchard Park.
