  1. Getting rough... I think they need to institute and immediate 5 minute major for anyone who goes after a player who lays out a teammate. I am tired of it... and Fasching was clean from the best I could see on the stream. It's an automated motion tracking system. https://www.keemotion.com/ The Bruins showing a complete lack of composure.
  2. Yea.. but punching a puck in the net for a goal is pretty weak too :).
  3. Well, I don't think the quality here is the stream so much as the Keemotion technology and camera they are using. The Keemotion stuff is pretty new. Intresting, but the camera could use improvement.. and the lighting seems way off.. underexposed.
  4. Ugh... of course you can't use the xbox player for it. So I get to sit on my PC. I really need to get something to allow me to cast to my TV. But I got online just in time for the goal!
  5. I think I might be able to stream this one tonight.. woot!
  6. Streaming! Awesome. HOCKEY!
  7. Turrible rule changes. The 2min penalty for a failed review is awful. How many times did they blow the call last year? Just get rid of the damned challenge entirely. What will inevitably happen this year is that a team will lose a game because they challenged a call, were ruled against, gave up a PP goal on that penalty and then other camera angles or something will show the refs were incorrect in their review on the ice. The no timeout after icing is also stupid... let them use it how they want. The NHL is great at breaking things that were fixed and not fixing that which is broken. Derp.
  8. Well, generally speaking your third line is the line that sees the 3rd most ice time in 5 on 5 situations right? Ideally you want to maximize the ice time of your top scoring talent. Therefore, it makes little sense to place a top scoring resource on a line that is on the ice less than two other lines. If you had equal talent then the lines would rotate evenly and thus there would be no third line except in the order in which they are placed on the ice. Of course, if a player can score at a higher g/60minute rate on the third line than they can the first line then perhaps you put them on that line. So long as your reduction in talent on your top line does not then produce a greater GA/60M because you've weakened that line. Or some fancy stats crap like that... (I know that's not all that fancy)
  9. It means you have to pay for a plan to obtain access. Good for the BN. It'll fail miserably.
  10. Every GM is overrated.. because eventually the star power you happen upon by almost pure chance ends up leaving you and then you look like an incompetent boob. I'm not sure there is a GM in the league that doesn't fall into this category at some point. Hell the Red Wings made the playoffs for 25 years or whatever and people call their GM out. I think the decline of every GM is the moment they spend big money on those contracts. It ties their hands and make team building an exercise of how do I still fill out the remaining 16-18 slots with 25% less cap space to work in. I should take that back... the Patriots are proving quite well that you only need to invest in 1 player to really win for a long time. Perhaps in hockey you need 2.. and perhaps the Penguins become a good model for that, but of course their stars are not making the same money as Kane and Toews either. The presumption that the cap keeps going up hasn't held true.
  11. This thread will be the one that breaks SabreSpace. All this worry over nothing... meanwhile, there's a big-arse hurricane about to wreak havoc... I'm more worried about that right now.
  12. The trick to "sticking" on the regular roster is not when you are ready to be a regular, but when you are ready to be a regular and you can't be freely moved between ROC and BUF. Roster flexibility is such a huge factor in this calculation for any player who is not firmly planted as a top tier player.
  13. Duh-yam that's a nice shot. On hockey forums the net should always be the subject of the shot...
  14. Was invited to be part of the Genesee Brewery Tap it Forward Day on Sept. 8th. (http://www.geneseebeer.com/tapitforwardfest/) Get to be part of some sessions and stuff going on during the day and then attend the festival later that evening. The sessions during the day invite staff from the other breweries in the area and NYS to help run Genny while the employees of Genesee Brew House are given time to participate in a community volunteer program in North Rochester. They are also releasing a bourbon barrel aged old ale that day. They only made a 60bbl batch so it'll be very limited. They brought in a mobile canning line to can the beer off as well. Can't wait to try it. Should be fun. If you want to see some event shots, etc. you can check out ROCbeer on Facebook.
  15. You have firewood for the fireplace?
  16. This is common. Even more than yeast is that I bet they are not varying up their base malt very much either and it's probably crappy base malt to boot. A lot of crappy malt will impart the same flavors even across different specialties. Liken it to someone who doesn't know how to roast a coffee bean... you do it wrong it ends up tasting the same as every other bean. See above.. below, etc. :) I am as well. Dean at Genny makes some really great beer. Their pilot beers are very good most of the time. This is very true. And to expand on what I was saying above... if you have a process that calls for a fermentation temperature at let's say... 62 degrees, then a lot of the malt and yeast characteristics from fermentation are going to be more muted. As We've noted, the yeast is a HUGE factor in this. While most will run quite a few house yeasts what happens is they repitch them (as they should). There are however factors that have to be taken into consideration. THe first is that pitching wort on top of the yeast trub of another beer will impart some of that beers flavors into the new beer. It's wise to re-pitch on similar styles (so IPA to IPA, etc.) If you were to take an IPA and then pitch an amber on it you could end up with some IPA notes, etc. THe second of course is how many times you re-pitch. The last, and very common problem, is that breweries use an ale yeast and ferment at low temps to simulate a lager profile while shortening the fermentation process. There are also packaging issues, cleaning issues, etc. Which beers would you say taste like syrup is added? I don't drink them these days, but if you take something like Caramel Porter.. well, you're likely right at this point. A good caramel porter would use a decoction, but again that takes time and complicates the process. Just curious if you could name any so I could look into it.
  17. The insinuation is that they are the same beer with flavorings added. This would indicate they are created the same as malted beverages like hard sodas which are fermented for alcohol and then stripped of their malt profiles and re-flavored with flavorings. This is not how Saranac makes its beer. Their beers may not be anything special but they are created with recipes that are different.
  18. Sharks honor season ticket holders with their names under the ice. Interesting touch.. http://www.bardown.com/sharks-honour-season-ticket-holders-by-adding-their-names-under-the-ice-at-the-sap-center-1.843147
  19. Not even remotely true.
  20. Unfortunate it had to come AFTER the organization said it would not re-sign him. He's a class act and has been the cornerstone of that franchise forever. They are undertaking a new direction and it'll be interesting to see where it goes.
  21. Absolutely. Shiner Oktoberfest Victory Festbier There are probably others I can come up with but I generally don't drink many of them. I particularly remember those two as being bad.
  22. As a person who spent years in healthcare... I've seen that one... and it's still funny 5 years after being in healthcare. :) So, I'll post more seriously this morning since I haven't been drinking. There are about 5-7 sites on the Internet I visit on pretty much a daily basis.. this is one of them. While I am absolutely a Sabres fan, I am a fan of hockey overall. The forum provides the proper Sabres focus but still dives into enough other NHL discussions and off-topic items to be perfectly entertaining for me. Essentially it's maximum value compared to anywhere else I go. It's a good group of people posting on here and most of the time the conversation is both intellectually stimulating and informative. Sure there are times when it's not and there are times when its downright sad but it's not the predominant state.
  23. This could be the case, but the point to consider is that in NHL circles both Botterill and Housley were considered some of the strongest "new blood" to assume GM and HC positions. The Sabres did not reach for these hires.
  24. So, it's just your opinion with no statistical analysis? I'm asking not because I discredit it, but because you are normally using some kind of statistical analysis in your projections of hockey so I wanted to be sure. As I write this I am thinking no matter what it is going to come across wrong, so I will reiterate. I am giving you credit for the usual amount of stastical analysis you use when making statements and I wanted to understand if you used similar analysis here or if it was something much simpler. I hope that helps... I'm going away for 10 days so I won't know for awhile I suppose :).
  25. It's cool, you know, dis place. I try to quit it once and awhile but, you know, it's hockey, so it's tough. There are time, you know, when da boys are being der stupid selves, but, you know, dey all come together when it matter. We share a lot, we've been through this ride together. It's been tough, sometimes good, sometimes bad, some people even leave da room, can't handle it, you know? But dose dat stay, dey are da ones who matter. Dis year we turn it around though. It's different. All new stuff come in, and you know, it makes a difference. We're confident, we're positive. We're ready to go.... Hi Mom.
