  2. i dunno ... i had been watching old B&B eps, so i had beavis' voice rattling around my head. sorry. :)
  3. heh heh heh ... ummm ... i like to help the kids. yah ... heh heh heh.
  4. carli lloyd taking care of business. wonder what'll happen if she gets a 3rd. i'd throw a hat, just to confuse the crap out of most of the rest of the crowd.
  5. if you can get north east of lockport, you should be fine. head out towards the lake somewhere, and you'll be far enough away from city lights that you'll have a hell of a show.
  6. 50-100 is nothing to sneeze at as far as meteor showers go. average showers have between 15-30. this is supposedly one of the strongest meteor showers for the next several years. though to be fair, no--it's not going to have 150-200. i can't remember which shower it was, but several years ago, it was ridiculous. if you blinked, you likely missed a couple. THAT was a good meteor shower.
  7. you should have no problem seeing it out your way. just get as far away from any lights as you can, bring a lawn chair, snacks, drinks ... camera, if that's your thing, and enjoy the show. oh. obvs that clouds will ruin it all.
  8. Perseid meteor shower peaks Saturday night/Sunday morning. Silent streaks of colored beams that paint the black, speckled sky. Yah. Photo ops!
  9. did anthrax play efilnikufesin? i'm the man? caught in a mosh? i loved them back in high school. haven't seen them or heard anything of theirs since about 1991. good to know they're still playing.
  10. "The Hobbit" has now been confirmed as three movies. </geekgasm>
  11. i have made a solemn vow to take my wife on at least a small portion of this someday ... http://www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/
  12. That's exactly why she does have it. And not to throw down a dissenting opinion, but she's one of the few people I've seen who can pull off that hair style well. of course, she could probably buzz her head and look just as hot. </opinion>
  13. Got my approval email to sell tie-dyed shirts at our local farmer's market every Saturday until the end of September. Pretty stoked about that. Also got accepted to sell at our local town festival August 3rd and 4th. $15 for adults, $10 for kids. Want to make socks and hats, but I'm running out of time. Still have 150 shirts to dye! Finally figured out the smiley face. Not a hard design from a banding perspective, but getting the dye bottles to cooperate is a bitchallenging. Awesome!
  14. I love that song. Between that and "The Garden," I think they've managed to encapsulate the reason for human existence. We've talked to her ad infinitum about moving, finding new friends, ditching them ... she just can't do it on her own. And as an adult, we really can't do anything other than support her. Doesn't mean we have to like or agree with her choices, but we can be supportive of her. It just irks me cuz she was always so sweet and bright, happy ... now she's just this shell. You can literally see just how dead she is inside. It pains us to watch her go through this time and time again, but ultimately, it's her choice. We've offered to let her stay with us with the understanding that it's a place to crash rent-free, with no parties, no guests ... a bed, pillow, clean towels and rags, and unlimited food and use of laundry machines. She's never taken us up on it. Probably because of the "no parties" rule. Sorry, but I have two little girls who I'm not going to subject to that kind of lifestyle. Not with drugs, alcohol and what-not. Grah. What can we do but keep on loving her and supporting her?
  15. when the winter olympics were here 10 years ago, there wasn't a corner you could hide in to escape the buzz. from logan to payson (about 140 miles apart), the feeling was electric. after the opening ceremonies, which we watched on tv and heard from my brother's location a few blocks from rice eccles stadium, we all went downtown. it was *INSANE*. the world had come to play in our back yard, and we were on cloud frickin' nine. high-fiving everyone, meeting sh**-tons of new people, free concerts EVERYwhere ... and that was just downtown. i have no idea what park city or ogden was like. 20 blocks of party in downtown salt lake ... you cannot understand the level of sheer awesomeness unless you get to host the olympics. to raziel, i hope you truly get to make it to london for the opening ceremonies. you don't have to be at the venue--just be nearby. hell, you could even be within a few miles. it's just that intense. granted, most of my family are "people" people, so for us it was incredibly awesome. if you're the introvert type ... may God have mercy on you for the next two weeks. :) OH! find the pin-trading locations. they're everywhere. and if you get a chance to ###### up any local uniform gear and sell it on ebay, do it. my wife and i made $2000 in 3 days selling those roots berets that team usa sported during the opening ceremonies. bought 10 for $20 a piece, sold them for over $200 each. holy sh!t, i envy you right now man.
  16. my sister in law is suicidal. i don't mean that in some colloquial throw-around term; i mean she is literally thinking of ending her life. right now, she's sleeping on my parents in law's couch. that's not my complaint. my complaint is how she's constantly treated by her "friends." all of them are back-stabbing, duplicitous snots that, if i had more time to hang out with my SIL, would get an earful and a good case of the b****-slaps. she used to be this sweet, charming girl. her current friends are these self-righteous, entitlement mentality jerks who pretend to be nice to her in front of her ... only to turn around and sh** on her every chance they get. and she keeps taking them back because she has no self esteem any more because of her f***ed up ex-husband, who long ago stripped her of any sense of self worth. no--my complaint is how some people in society have no regard for peoples feelings. my sister in law just turned 30, and most of her friends are around the same age. how does one decide at the tender age of about 30 to sh** on one person "because it's funny"?! we complain about gun laws and pro/con gay marriage issues ... screw all of that. if we can't decide as human beings to step up and say "enough is enough. may we *please* start treating people with common dignity and respect?", then we have no business handling other issues that are only off-shoots of this one constant, original problem--treating people with decency and kindness.
  17. very few times to i throw out this word, but that ... is ... epic. i don't ever plan on getting divorced, but even if i did, i'm pretty sure that's not how i would do it.
  18. First day back to work after a week-long vacation in Oregon. BIG fan of the scenery; not at all a fan of the political slant. The coastal areas are just ridiculously gorgeous though. Went to Cannon Beach, Neskowin Beach, and Astoria. Hiked Multnomah Falls (at least partially), and generally just enjoyed the time off. And now, I'm back behind my desk, in my Cube of Solitude. *sigh* EDIT: OH! HUGE highlight: stopped by "The Goondocks," for any of you fans of The Goonies. Chatted with the lady who owns the house for about 15 minutes about daily visitors, pros and cons of living in Astoria's second largest tourist attraction (first is "The Column"), other movies filmed in Astoria (e.g. Kindergarten Cop, Free Willy), coastal differences between Oregon, California and pretty much anywhere on the eastern seaboard, other things to do in Astoria ... she was really, really cool. I feel like I should send her a thank you card for all the local tips she provided.
  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYMMnHW85mc great new song.
  20. trust me ... i WISH there were a ban. at least on the free-lance sale of fireworks to every joe with cash or card. we just had a new fire erupt yesterday. that's 10 up and down the state. it's getting scary out here ...
  21. There may be a ban in CO, but there isn't in Utah. State legistlature even declined to act upon the notion of banning fireworks. There may be local city ordinances banning selling or using, but not from the stores I've been in. And to me, it seems almost irresponsible to sell them this year, yet there they are--in most grocery store parking lots, or grocery stores selling the boxed crap inside. my brother in law and i typically like to put on a small display after the "big show" is over, but not this year. we're self-imposing a ban, but we're instituting a "midnight swim" instead for all the kids.
  22. throwing well-marbled rib-eyes on the grill for the adults, hot dogs and burgers for the kids; pool time in the late morning/early afternoon. fireworks at night (assuming the legislature doesn't issue a state-wide ban--a distinct possibility, given all the raging wild fires out here).
  23. interesting quotes. i won't presume to know the whole situation, so i'll refrain from using terms like "whiner," or "under achiever." but from reading the whole interview at the link, he comes across as someone who needs to have his hand held." i've worked with bosses who didn't tell me "every minute or every shift if i've done something good or bad ..." i *knew* when i did something well, and so did my boss. it reflected in my meetings with our program manager. it resulted in promotions. MY product was MY making. if brad wasn't happy with the coaching mentality, that's sad, but ultimately, it's on him to work with the system he had, and i'm sorry ... i just didn't see it very often from him.
