Love me some Desnoyers but I don't see him being available at 7. I've seen some stuff where he might go over Hagens at 3 or 4. Schaefer, Musa, Martone, Desnoyers is a real possibility. Bergeron is exactly who I think about when watching him, as always it's a style comparison not a direct comparison.

The defensive metrics tend to agree. The team got worse under him, not better.

Carter isn't related Ethan that I'm aware of. Bear isn't perfect but he's damn fun to watch and I think the skills like skating will improve. At 7, he's a good option.

Lindy Ruff spent 4 months giving Cozen ice time that should have gone to others. It's Ristolainen all over again.

I ranked Marco Rossi and Seth Jarvis above Quinn in that draft. Actually it's why at 7 in 2025, I'm still big on Carter Bear. He plays hockey hard and he's got enough skill that at worst you're getting a 2nd line player.

But what players were 21 or 22 finesse players?

I don't believe the out of shape narrative. They have a crappy defense and bad goaltending. Being in shape isn't fixing that.

I'm old now, and forgetful, but I feel like something major happened that would change our Jack Quinn outlook. Ah well, my memory is my Achilles heel these days. Anyways, since they have nothing to do with taking Mrtka at 7 and drafting only D, not sure what point you're making here. Buffalo has drafted more D than F in the last few years. They've taken a goalie every year for 3yrs, they should again. They can take a D at 7, Smith is a good option. Idk what were even arguing about.

There's 2 things going on. First is Adams backed this team into a corner. Every forward is either signed or an RFA. Someone has to be moved then to change it up. Second is that how long do we wait for Quinn? I've suggested 15 games because part of me still believes in the skillset but if the right deal hits this summer, move on. Buffalo isn't a rest and recovery team.

Which players were these?

Quinn was able to cut through the hands of defenders and win puck battles. He could be knocked off pucks but it didn't knock him out of the play. He was able to play in traffic. That's mostly gone now. Quinns toolbox has excellent shooting, passing, and pretty good offensive zone play but in tight checking games, he's useless. If I can move on from him and get someone with a bit more checking and physical play, I would. We need better 2way forwards and Quinns a defensive black hole. Reinhart was a player Sabres fans wanted to be Tkachuk and that's unfortunate because he brought a ton of value in the way Tuch does without hitting everything that moves.

Quinn refusing to engage physically bothers me a lot. It's why I'll never be bullish on power. He's also a logical piece to upgrade.

Pegula has owned the team for 14yrs, they've missed the playoffs for 14yrs. There's no baseless hatred, the man's incompetent at running a hockey team.
