The set up guy didn’t realize that he laid the cloth 90deg from intended. 🤷♂️

My emotional budget is too occupied by other things to raise any energy over what Hasek, tennis, the Olympic Committee, the NHL or anyone else is doing or not doing because Russia. I just hope Ukraine comes out on top before their country is razed. OK, I had a little budget. Its gone now.

That is pretty much in line with the idea that hockey rosters turn over every 3 years. 7 of 23 is a 30% turnover.

A Top 4 Defenseman is Adams Top Priority per Lebrun

I think this is a reasonable take. I like the signings alot. Checks all the boxes I had labeled. Leadership. Playoff proven. D first. RH. Reasonable expectations to fill the hole they were signed to fill. Get rid of the uncertainty in goal and this is an unconditional expectation of playoffs. With the uncertainty in goal there is the condition of requiring average goaltending from a group that has not proven average to date. I am more optimistic than before the signings, but still cautiously. -
I think this season is going to see a more defensively focused Sabres, and consequently less run and gun. Last year may have been career years for a bunch of guys as a result. I hope that is the case, certainly. Nonetheless, I think we will still be a top 1/3 of the league offensive team with a middle 1/3 of the league defensive game. With that game and Helle, we should be a dark horse pick for alot of prognosticators.

Genuinely surprised by this. Dahlin Mule Power Clifton Stillman/Joki/Johnson/Boosh Clague and I missed Bryson That is 8 legit NHLers and a solid tweener insurance policy, and a less solid tweener.. Im starting to think like Dudacek, KA ain’t done and he is collecting pcs so we have some depth after another move is made.
-
“In the race” does not assume we are in the top 8 teams, just within reasonable striking distance. We were in the race last season and missed. scenario 1. Levi is fine. UPL and Comrie are not. Adding an upgrade to UPL/Comrie takes some of the load off Levi better assuring that we don’t wear him out before we get in. And gives us a measure of insurance if Levi falters. scenario 2. Levi is not ready for prime time or is inconsistent and we have an exact repeat of last seasons overall goalie situation. Adding an upgrade to UPL/Comrie puts us in a better situation to avoid missing the playoffs by 1 win. My gut is telling me that a move at the deadline for a goalie upgrade at rental prices is more likely than getting a goalie in this offseason.
-
I think a goalie improvement over UPL/Comrie is outside of KAs price range. I do think this has the potential to be revisited mid season or at the deadline, when acquisition costs are lower. If we are in a position to be deadline buyers and the goaltending needs a bit of a push, I could def see KA getting a Helle at deadline rental prices.

No. There was alot of discussion in ‘21-22 that VO had evolved his game and was not a single tool player. Last year that description of VO vanished and seems to still be missing. The discussion is if VO ever really was more than a single dimension player, and if he was, why can’t he get that back this season?
-
VO was pretty circumspect after the end of season meetings. He knew, and said, he needed to he better, and he knew where he needed to be better. I find it interesting that 2 seasons ago alot of the posters that are calling VO a one trick pony and PP specialist were making credible arguments that he had matured his game and was playing responsibly. I think Quinn’s injury will ultimately give VO the opportunity to show whether the discussions from 2 seasons ago were accurate, and if he can move his game to another level.
-
I think the team is done in FA. I also expect that VO isn’t getting moved as long as Quinn is out. And the team will start camp with a 3 headed goalie monster. Here they are, your 23-24 Buffalo Sabres.

Where is that screen shot of the “Suffering” justification mailer to the season ticket holders?

I’ve said many times that we needed some serious playoff experience on this roster to help the young guys. Well, today some serious playoff experience came in the front door. Lets go make a first round win happen.

I limit my follows to hockey writers. No issues at all seeing these updates

Man, that signing is 2-3 yrs too late. Seems like a desperation signing.

Strbak and Ratzlaff are solid NHL names. Wahlberg sounds like a cup o coffee in the NHL kind of name. Gavin McCarthy more likely is a scratch golfer than NHL regular. Rest is pretty mediocre as NHL names go. I think Ratzlaff wins this years NHL name challenge.

I agree with Thorny here. Losing Quinn for half a season, with the expectation that he likely won’t be 100% for a bit after his return, has a negative impact on season expectations. They need a 2nd line wing now. And expecting a kid to come in and step up is pretty damned high risk to playoff expectations. KA needs to get a 2nd line winger from the outside in addition to filling the Jost roster spot. And if VO is moved as expected?…… We are still somewhat depth challenged. We have cap space. It’s time KA started acting like winning matters more than development, and not depend on unproven kids to fill holes.

We are on Chautauqua Lake right now. Fireworks on the other side of the lake sendi my dog under a bed, an anxious, scared mess. My dog still hates you.

And I’m still bitter about it.

A little wrong. There were red flags with Grigorenko and his place in the rankings dropped leading up to the draft. There was some doubt about his performance in the playoffs, speculation that he had mono at the tail end of his draft season, or if it was something else. Grigo was a high risk, high reward pick. They praised his talent but warned about his ability or willingness to transfer it to the NHL. Same draft, Girgensons was low risk, low reward. He was a higher percentage to make the NHL, but at less talent. We all know who won that race. Haven’t heard any concerns re the new guy.
-
IF they make the NHL. All of these guys outside of our 1st pick are longshots to good extent. Nonetheless, big and edgy longshots are more what we need than puckmover longshots.
