Based simply on points, the Sabres have 2 teams to leapfrog, and 2 teams they are tied with. The season is still manageable, but they absolutely cannot get into a situation where they have more teams to leapfrog over for that last playoff spot. The season really is in the balance. Right. Now. They can’t afford to wait go on a run after Christmas.

I think we are forgetting the history of this offseason. VO on the roster was a given the day Quinn was injured.

I assume the puzzle has a couple of missing pieces. ”We’ll send them in a couple years”

Ugh. Unreliable sources for something like this. Jeez. -
What’s disappointing is there is no really reason to extend the list any further.

I’m not sure you’ve corrected me when your response is that 2 out of 16 playoff positions weren’t determined on Christmas day. My point stands. By Christmas, playoffs are mostly determined.
-
By Christmas a teams’ playoff fate is mostly settled, so sure, you can readily prognosticate a full assessment at that time. However, the time to react to save a season is mostly over by then.

I’m not sure the logic, as provided here, works. If every team had 1 jr age player in the CHL that warranted a spot in the AHL, there would be 32 players spread among 3 leagues that are affected. And a good team in ‘23 is frequently set up to be a rebuilding team in ‘24. Where complications would arise is with CHL trades. I would think trades involving higher end drafted players would have much more risk for teams that are trying to muscle up for a Memorial Cup run. I don’t know how a CHL team could plan and chase a Memorial Cup if they can’t assume that the best players will be available. And after typing all that out, maybe we are saying the same thing, lol.

It’s an easier transition if you start two timing with a fishing rod now.

Which is something the league has both the authority and incentive to do. Realistically, the league won’t have to, and likely won’t because they don’t have to make that decision. He’ll sit the rest of this season while it plays out in the justice system. Boston will quietly not offer to have him come back next season. Noone else will offer him a contract because he sucks, and because of the optics of this. And he’ll retire a disgraced Bruin.

Check the Amerks thread. No defense being played there either

Banning Lucic would absolutely be helpful to the NHL, who does not want any part of being associated with an accused domestic violence offender. And there is absolutely risk to the NHLs business, and in the NHLs best interest to distance themselves pronto.
-
Noone is revoking their ability to work. However, the accused has surely limited the number of employers that would be willing to employ them. Im all for second chances. I am not at all willing to risk my livelihood, or my business to offer it to them. And I’m surely going to understand any other organization that feels likewise. And frankly, Lucic in particular won’t suffer financially from this unless he’s made a bunch of other poor choices along the way. Sucks to be him, then.

First, I’m not making judgement on whether that response is right or wrong, I’m just stating the reality. 2nd for an organization, the public pushback is potentially millions of dollars in net affect. Serious business implications. Even organizations that would want to support an employee with these allegations wouldn’t risk that kind of impact. And there is this as well.
-
No organization in the world wants to be viewed as tolerating that sort of behavior. That is tons of justification right there.

What could become insurmountable before Christmas is the combination of points back and teams to leapfrog. Hell, by Thanksgiving it is starting to get late.
