Well they could end up getting a 3rd in a compensatory pick just because of the deal he signedpeople have to remember that contracts in Sports have to have agreements from both sides. The Bills could have tagged Byrd, but he would also have to have signed the tag, and they would have had to also find a team that would then agree to give up something for him. The Saints only had to give up money in his contract, they don't give up any picks to get him. Who knows if they would have been willing to sign him if they had to give up draft picks to the Bills in order to get him.

If it keeps him busy and out of the GMs office where someone else would be making the moves itmight be the best thing to happen to that franchise I seriously don't see how he can survive the rest of this season after whats gone down there. Especially with them moving into a new arena, if they keep him on after this season the fans really need to abandon the franchise until Wang and Snow are forced out. With a decent GM in place, they have the foundation to be a playoff team very quickly -

Thats the way my Babcia would pronounce them when she made themA Plum jam filled with Icing sugar. Best when fresh but still good when she had froze extras for later in the year. They never taste as good to me store bought or from anywhere else. her sister would bring us some down from a bakery in Toronto and although not as good, they were pretty good and HUGE

Buffalo HAS to bring in 1 leader for next year (with talent)

how am I twisting it, if the intention from teh front office is to field a team bad enough to get the #1 overall pick, they can't do that with a team whos goal is to go out and win games. you try and bring in the vets to mentor the players and help them win. You can't have it both ways where you expect them to teach the kids how to win, while being so bad that they are a shoe-in for the top pick. Players aren't going to learn how to win by losing to get a saviour Edmontons problems aren't because of a lack of leadership, its a lack of defence and goaltending (which may have improved now, or atleast looks like it could) They focused on building their team with flashy goal scoring forwards, and neglected other parts of the team (defence and goaltending). They could have all the best motivators/teacher veterans on the team and its still not going to make up for no defence and below average goaltending. Sure, that would help, but they still have to field an NHL team, and those players still have to come up and figure out how to play in the NHL sometime -
Shake up in the office PAT LaFONTAINE RESIGNS

i don't think the draft matters, I think he may just want to see how the deadline went, and what the plans are for next season. I would think that if they don't atleast give him some actual NHL talent to work with for next season giving him a chance to win then he won't sign the extension. Basically if the plan is to ice a team with the sole intention of being bad enough to draft McKinnon, he won't be coaching it. -

how can you start/teach a winning culture when your trying not to win and accept losing?whats the vet going to tell them, "Its ok that you guys keep losing and can't get a win, look to the bright side, McDavid will soon be here to save all of you!" -
maybe the Devils learned their lesson?Ever happen as a kid that your parents punished you for doing something wrong, but just before you were finished with the punishment they did something to take the punishment away and say that they hope you learned your lesson? hard to be tough on the Devils for that deal when Kovi ended up screwing them and ran back to Russia

Then how are they going to teach anybody how to win?and if you don't want guys that can show them how to win, why are you trying to sign veteran guys? -

i would also demand immediate enshrinement into the HHOF for whomever is the coach of the team, along with Murray and every member of that team -

but at those ages, what would be their reason for coming here instead of just retiring? They have all had long careers and made their money, how many want to come to a team that has no shot at the playoffs let alone the cup. At those ages, usually the only reason they go somewhere is for one last shot at a championship.their best option is if they can convince someone to come with a verbal/handshake agreement they get moved to a cup contender at the deadline. -
I'm going to guess the French Connection well the only reason for the supposed 'Rivalry' between Washington and Pittsburgh is the media pushing "Crosby and Ovie, Whos the Best?"

The Tank is Done (Now we're just bad)
apuszczalowski replied to Johnny DangerFace's topic in The Aud Club
I disagree, I think its better then some might thinkAlso what might help is that the defence wasn't really touched at all at the deadline, so although its not the best, theres still talent there to help out (Myers, Ehrhoff). I think we will see decent goaltending that keeps them in games, but the issue is going to be without a Hasek back there to win 1-0 games, they won't get much goal scoring from the forwards so they would need someone who can give up less then 2 goals a game in order for them to win The Tank is still not done until they start making moves to improve the current team, not the team a couple years from now. If they go into the season accepting that they will be bad in hopes of getting a top pick, they are still tanking. If they use cap space and picks to acquire players that will make them a better team with the intention of trying to get into the playoffs, then the Tank is over. its quite possible that the gutting of the roster is over, but the tank is apparently far from over if the goal is McDavid or Bust -
Neuvirth basically was Gibson a few years ago, he was supposed to be their #1 guy until he got hurt and lost his job because Holbty and the other goalie played better in his absence.he has the ability/potential to be a good #1 if he can get back on track. Personally I think this was one of the better moves made because it isn't one where we have to wait multiple years to see anything at the NHL level.

apuszczalowski replied to Johnny DangerFace's topic in The Aud Club
Do people here not understand what the definition of tanking is? or have they made up their own definition now for something that already means something else? Tanking is when a team goes into a season, or decides during one to lose games instead of win in order to obtain a high draft choice (uusually the #1 overall pick). Tanking typically involves gutting a team of its talent so that losing games becomes much easier. This "Tank" is not done, its apparently far from over -
Looks like to answer my own question, the Jets and Avs also did not make any deals that I am aware of.

So what teams didn't make any moves this deadline? Only one I can think of was the Leafs, their last move was New Years day Liles for Gleason
