  1. from Bucci: http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/8288826/answering-your-tweets-old-fashioned-emails
  2. I realize guys like Boughner (who I'd like as coach) and Barnaby and May were one-dimensional players and would be lost intoday's game. The new breed who can beat you on the scoresheet and beat the snot out of you, like Marcus Foligno or maybe Girgensons are the types I'd want.
  3. I'm the wrong generation to understand that but I imagine that to be what I'm getting at. In other words, the wimps who can't stand up for themselves or the team should be kept to an absolute minimum. I'd like a team resembling the Sabres in the Peca-Boughner-Ray-Barnaby years.
  4. note I said "who can play" for all you politically correct types.
  5. Seriously, I'd like to see the Sabres go the exact other way and get a whole team of agitators, thugs and enforcers who can play, maybe with a couple notable exceptions. After the Era of the Wimp, maybe the Era of Retribution.
  6. You'll thank me later: http://www.thestarphoenix.com/sports/hockey/blades-hockey/Makarov+Buffalo+bound/7097684/story.html
  7. Paul Kelly, the former NHLPA head who lives in Needham, stops off at my dad's condo and he said to the concierge that the NHL will start 2 months late this year. (he's now representing the Paterno family--good luck with that!)
  8. you might be right...I'm not sure. I just saw them and they were pretty impressive. Imagine that near the HSBC arena.
  9. Some of the set pieces, the elephants, are still being used to decorate an outdoor Hollywood mall courtyard...they're huge and impressive in person.
  10. http://thehockeywrit...ssia-challenge/ Here's an article about final impressions from the series. The author, from DobberProspects, didn't say much great about Gringo (skilled but inconsistent, disappears when you need him) but also pointed out these top rated undrafted Russian gems...Anton Slepyshev (2G,1A), Kirill Kapustin (3G, 3A), Andrei Sigarev (3G, 1A) and goalie Andrey Makarov, who "continues to prove he's an elite goaltending prospect." Hello Sabres scouts?
  11. The food is so good, that WNY suffers from epidemic rates of stroke and heart disease, the highest in NYS. http://www.strokeheart.org/stats.html
  12. Bob Boughner should be the next Sabres coach. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Boughner
  13. I grew up in Buffalo in the 60s-70s and now live near Boston, MA. I still crave the Texas Red Hots and the best I remember was Longo's on Kenmore Ave. But they're gone, so I'm a fan of Louie's. Ted's is OK, but it doesn't have that "gulp it down" formula of the steamed bun and dog, mustard-silvered onions-greek sauce. I haven't been to Buffalo in ages and hope to make the junk food tour one of these years. I miss going to a Mighty Taco at 2 AM, having a pistachio cone at Andersons, the wings at Duff's, the Lone Star Fajita Grill on Hertel and Leonardi's Pizza on Grover Cleveland Hwy. Buffalo's got to have the best junk food in the country!
  14. I can't speak for Courtourier, haven't seen him enough. Except to say I'd prefer Hartnell. As for Myers, I like the photo opps with Gerbe and everything, but I just see him making plenty of mistakes, getting tangled up in himself, only occasionally applying himself, having Zhitnik disease from the point, plus now he might be a marked man with Shanahan with his boarding suspension on Scott Gomez, as much as it was an old score to settle. About the only time I find Tyler dangerous is when he slips and falls on someone.
  15. Call me crazy, it's been done before, but I wouldn't mind trading Myers. I know he's perceived as a top pair DMan but I'm not so sure he is one. Maybe he'll regain his first year form but everything I've seen since has been inconsistent I'm not sure he'll ever live up to the hype of the first year and in fact, I'd bet against it. I'd deal him now for a star or two because his return rate will never be higher and of course the Sabres have a logjam at D.

You can spend all day watching the legendary Rob Ray fights. Ray, May and Barnaby have entire channels devoted to them on youtube. http://www.youtube.c...l/HCJCo-YAltxOw

Speaking of Matt the Rat, he was voted the #1 All-Time agitator in this webcast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0QGCyNgC1E

    Sabre fights

The Sabres have had some great fights over the years. This one against the Flyers comes to mind. Check out how Matthew Barnaby fakes injury, gets tapped by Garth Snow's goalie stick while he's on the ice with the trainer and makes a b-line to beat Snow's brains out at about 1:18. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMOU4Ogzb5I&feature=related

  20. 80 points is the new 120 points.
  21. I'd love a guy like Kane and a team of young ruffians. He's a star in the making and has many great years ahead of him. He's already figured things out and he's only 20 or so. I'm not big on guys who are over 30 with their best days behind them, which I think are the majority of the over 30 crowd. Plus I'm dubious about guys like Ryan who appears to have extra baggage. I might feel a bit guilty if Buffalo pried him loose from the 'Peg just because of money but I'd take it in stride...Winnipeg is only offering a 6 year deal for $29 million.... http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=401311
  22. anybody up for signing Evander Kane to an astronomical offer sheet?
  23. Reminds me of George Carlin's offhand comments about 911..."they don't investigate themselves."
