  1. Can't the Sabres find a Jim Cornelison to rev everybody up for the anthems, instead of these singing mediocrities that depress people?
  2. I had a free preview of Center Ice so I watched the game. The Sabres put tons of shots and tons of pressure on but couldn't put the puck in the net. It was like constipation. You know it's in there but nothing comes out. So frustrating. Buffalo had Montreal bottled up in the zone for a good deal of the third period, until that brainfart of a powerplay. Lehner also fell asleep on that play. The Sabres also let up 38 shots, similar to last year. The Eichel-Pominville-Kane line is interesting. They all shoot. Both Eichel and Pominville pass great too. But Kane does not pass and when he does, it's not good. I get the feeling that Kane cramps Eichel, who has a booming shot but he was hesitant, looking to pass first. I saw this one incident in the third when Jack was wide open, banging his stick on the ice as usual and Kane shot it instead. I think they need a digger/setup man on this line instead of Kane and make Eichel the sniper of this line. Kane is a rare digger/shooter. I think Reinhart would be a much better fit and put the focus back on Jack. They need at least a Ken Hodge type here, a digger. Okposo looked invisible and OReilly with the Uncharactertistic unforced error stood out in a bad way. tsn listed 8 centers on the Sabres box score.... I think any team that plays the Sabres with Lehner in the net strategizes to at least go to the shoot-out. He still looks clueless out there. If the Sabres don't win in regulation, they are in trouble. I liked what I saw from some of the new arrivals including Scandella, Nolan and Griffith, who had a great assist. Antipin looked good and fast except his shot kept going high, like he was the reincarnation of Zhitnik. Maybe he was nervous. I get the idea that these new ticky-tacky penalties for faceoff infractions and slashing were designed to increase the scoring with more PP opportunities. But it's so artificial and phony. I kept thinking about $5 Million Moulson who didn't even suit up for the game. How embarrassing is that?
  3. More Tavares rumors...Bossy confirms...Buffalo a top destination. https://www.hockeyfeed.com/nhl-news/nhl-great-reports-tavares-will-be-traded-shortly?ref=Christine
  4. This ruffian can be useful. Nolan highlights: He rag-dolls Scandella around 1:40.
  5. I demonstrated that you're an idiot.
  6. The ignorant are unable to appreciate true wisdom.
  7. If Sam's role is going to stand in front of the net, I think he should wear a cage. I've seen too many broken jaws like Vanek and LaFontaine of guys who stand in front. The puck just bounces too fast to react.
  8. The situation with Eichel's new contract appears to be a Catch-22. Eichel signing a new contract is predicated on whether Buffalo becomes a winning franchise. Buffalo being a winning franchise is predicated on Eichel leading the way. Eichel is only 20 years old and IMO is hardly able to lead at this stage of his career. There is a fragile supporting cast of Reinhart, O'Reilly, Kane and Okposo. These four all are flawed players, although Reinhart hasn't started to scratch the surface. The rest of the group are a bunch of pluggers. Ultimately I agree with several posters...Buffalo is not going to be a winning franchise until Nylander and Middlestadt kick in, if they kick in. That might be a ways off and by that time, Eichel may go to a team that's already winning, which I think is all he wanted in the first place.
  9. Josh Anderson wants out of Columbus... http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2017/09/28/report-rfa-josh-anderson-wants-out-of-columbus/
  10. The Sabres need more not very good hockey players on the team in case some of the other not very good hockey players already on the team go down with injuries...
  11. I might buy Center Ice in January but for now I'm tired of being shocked by bad results and being charged for it, so I'll watch it free on the computer. (amended)
  12. Pokey, you're the Resident Website Pessimist after only 111 posts? You have to work harder than that my friend. This pessimism thing reminds me of a scientific experiment I once heard of where they had two rats in a maze. They gave one shocks but not the other one. The one that kept getting shocked got complacent and just stayed in the same place all the time, awaiting its punishment. The other one roamed free until he solved the maze. That's us, the fans, or the rats that keep getting shocked. I don't know how people are not pessimists with this kind of recent history. The tank two years in a row left me in a fetal position. But it took the Cubs 100 years...Calling Steve Bartman!
  13. true. Who likes cheering on a historically bad team?
  14. It's not a rumor, it's an opinion. I just don't see aggressiveness in Sam. Maybe going through all this frustration and losing has really worn on these players psyche.
  15. Guys, I just canceled my NHL Center Ice full season package. This is the first time in years. I have always been blindly optimistic about the hometown team but this year I'm taking a wait and see attitude. I've had the rug pulled out from under me for too many seasons. I don't like the signs I see from the Sabres this year. The ownership with its volatile and arbitrary decision making, the drastic change in management, the players who have been psychologically ruined by losing too many years in a row... I am disturbed that Eichel hasn't signed yet. I'm disturbed at how Reinhart has not looked to be even close to a #2 overall pick. I personally feel that these two are not long for Buffalo, for different reasons. Eichel because he can't stand losing and Reinhart because he is inconsistent and possibly with an attitude problem, like his brother Griffin who was also a top draft choice and who has bounced from team to team... I am not liking the development of Nylander either. He isn't his brother although I'm willing to be more patient O'Reilly has not impressed me for all the money the Sabres paid him. Thirtysomething Moulson is also being grossly overpaid as is Pominville, although Jason may still produce 5 on 5. I don't think you can count on Moulson to score 5 on 5. Kane has always been a concern with his attitude and how it might rub off on the youngsters. They kicked Gionta to the curb and I'm sure he could produce like a Moulson or Pominville at least at less than 1/3 the cost. I think the D has seen a big upgrade but the offense still can't score against quality opponents. If the Sabres can't score 5 on 5, which I can see happening, they will not win much in regulation. And if they can't excel in the 3 on 3 OT, ( I can see that the Sabres might excel with the phony 3 on 3 format) then it goes to shootout and I don't see Lehner doing much better than last year. I see Jack as a kid with tremendous talent but he is immature...and I don't think he wants to be losing in Buffalo. That's the bottom line for me. Granted, I like Housely as a coach, he gets Buffalo. And Botterill has made some good moves, especially shoring up the D. But I don't think this collection of players doesn't seem to care about playing specifically for the fans of Buffalo, who have suffered so much over time that the rink has become a morgue. (with a lame in-game experience, it might just stay that way...) I think these players have no feeling for Buffalo and might as well play for any other team with similar results. So that's why I am taking the wait and see subscribing my hard earned $ to NHL Center Ice. I just don't see the Sabres achieving anything other than the usual .500 (+/-)
  16. Jack's OT rush reminds me of Perreault, with the spectacular end to end rush, beating everybody. The only thing he didn't do was fake out the goalie. How quickly it turned into a 2 on 1. Jack just made a half circle and skated away from the first Penguins player from behind the Buf net as if he was nothing. If only Bert could explain how he did those moves, maybe Jack would understand and pick up some of the Perreault magic. But as Gilbert once said to Danny Gare, "I can't tell you how to do dem, I just do dem." But Eichel has magic of his own. Hopefully his legs hold up and he stays away from the type of dirty players who constantly want to hurt him.
  17. Bring on Peterman.
  18. How about Eichel and Kane for Duchene, MacKinnon, Landeskog and Barrie?
  19. Good luck to the prima donna 5'9 defenseman.
  20. If I were a Bills receiver, I'd retire too.
  21. So Eichel is going to be paid more than Hasek. At age 20. Makes sense to me....
  22. Thanks Whaley.  :wallbash: :censored:
