  1. Trent Edwards lives!
  2. If this was directed at me, I will note that I have said several times that the mistake was not taking a flyer on Seantrel in the 7th round -- it was constructing the team to rely on someone who shouldn't be relied on. Separately: in a fairly shocking turn of events, my wife has agreed to get up at 6:00 AM tomorrow and road trip with me to Baltimore, where we'll be tailgating and attending the game with 3 of my closest friends and their wives. It's going to be a long day, especially the drive back afterwards, but I'm pretty psyched. Also, the long TBN article on Sammy Watkins this past week was excellent. He really comes from a terrible place. Good for him for getting to where he is.
  3. If that had happened, wouldn't he or his agent have said so by now?
  4. Do you not agree with the statement you quoted?
  5. Well, I must admit to being a bit mystified here -- both at the strange point you seem determined to double down on (i.e. that I have some kind of irrational animus towards those who smoke pot), and at the fact that you seem to not believe me as to what my opinion actually is -- despite the words in my posts. Let's review the timeline of posts here. First, Hoss said this: My first post on this topic was 26 minutes after Hoss' post, in which I said this: I frankly don't see how you could read those posts and come to the conclusions you apparently have come to. Even if those posts didn't exist, it's not clear to me why you would disbelieve my subsequent posts as to what my opinion is on this, or why you would post your statement of disbelief -- i.e. "I know you said X, but I think you really don't think X and that you really think Y." But here we are.
  6. Another example of why it's important to wait until the facts are in: http://reason.com/blog/2016/09/09/female-student-admits-to-incredible-lie
  7. Regardless of whether you view the towers, during their existence, as a crass monument to capitalism/greed/whatever, it's important to remember that 3000 people died there in a horrific inferno from hell. That's why the coke zero display is offensive.
  8. Highly offensive, IMHO.
  9. I don't have much new to add here. In order: 1. Eichel and Reino as sophomores 2. Okposo and Ennis as new scorers on the wings 3. Kane with a major chip on his shoulder 4. Risto with a better partner in Kulikov and another year's experience 5. McCabe as a sophomore 6. Bogo with a healthy camp and start to the year 7. Lehner with a healthy start to the year 8. Zemgus with a chip on his shoulder in a contract year and in his 2nd year with a real NHL coach 9. One of the kids -- likely Nelson, Bailey, Fasching or Nylander -- seizing a spot in the lineup
  10. My concern is that I am pretty confident that the NHL will continue to have heads up rectums and thus offensive constipation will continue to grow. The NHL had 28 players with 30 goals last year, including TWO with more than 41 and only 9 with more than 33. That is freaking pathetic. So while I'd love to see Jackie boy put up 35, the odds are against it.
  11. Well, you managed to miss my point by a country mile. The point is not that I think using pot, by itself, denotes bad character. I have no problem whatsoever with anyone smoking pot as long as it doesn't affect others. The point is that using pot, when you have agreed not to use it and have taken millions of dollars as part of that agreement AND you know that using it will get you suspended and thus hurt your team (and thus the livelihoods of your teammates, coaches, etc), denotes poor character. Now, if you disagree with that, fire away.
  12. Not sure what your point is here. Do you find him not credible because he attributes his community's support for Trump to something other than bigotry?
  13. What? The point is not that he was a seventh round pick. The point is that his character is such that you can't rely on him,l, but the Bills do rely on him.
  14. So you didn't read it, eh? You've gotten all the info you need from other, more reputable sources? As it happens, that piece was written by a Yale law grad who came from poor white Appalachia. He doesn't have much good to say about the GOP. You might find it interesting if you can get past the horrifying publication.
  15. I think that on the occasions I have used "bloodthirsty Muslim" -- ie in connection with one of the distressingly frequent incidents of bloodthirsty mass murder committed by a Muslim -- it has been justified. PA, who is more concerned about fracking, "corporations" and the evils of the "Christian right" than he is about mass murder, apparently disagrees, as is his right (heh). I will also point out that PA has just today defended DeLuca's calling someone here a "white supremacist," but then denied any hysteria -- in much the same way he denied speculating about TP discontinuing the Toronto series. It was...Clintonian, really. In any case, here's another good and topical piece about race relations: http://www.nationalreview.com/article/439431/race-relations-getting-worse-america-why
  16. Well, I'm fine with taking a late-round flyer on a guy with character issues. But that was several years ago. The issue now is that the team is constructed to rely on him as a starting tackle.
  17. So you watched 2 or 3 minutes of an 11-minute video, decided that you didn't agree with any of it, and determined that the narrator (who is black), and anyone who recommends the video, is a bigot? It's impossible to learn anything if you shout down everyone who doesn't agree with you. BTW, for anyone who's interested in facts, and not hysterical name-calling, here's some data: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/black-lies-matter/article/2600164
  18. Yes -- he is claiming that he used pot to treat his illness. Is he claiming that pot is the only effective treatment? My view is that I am highly skeptical that it is the only effective treatment -- and if there are alternative treatments, it was Seantrel's responsibility to either use one of the alternatives or to get a waiver from the NFL for the pot. I can't tell whether you think that pot is the only effective treatment, or whether you are just GD sick of the hypocritical NFL, or whether you think someone's right to treat his disease in the way he chooses trumps any prior agreement not to use pot, or other.
  19. Settle down. Here's what you said: I referenced my family member having Crohn's in response to your assertion that I had zero information -- because I have substantially more than zero information about Crohn's. Obviously I wasn't in the room when Seantrel met with his doctor (speaking of straw men!) -- but that doesn't mean I have zero information. I didn't say that you claimed that pot is the only treatment for Crohn's. I simply made the point that it isn't the only treatment. I don't think that's a controversial statement. As for not knowing the facts -- again, I am relying on Hoss' reporting, which I think is reasonable. I think the only possible unknown fact that could emerge is that Seantrel's physician is both a good physician and has somehow determined that pot is the only effective treatment for his condition. I think there is pretty much zero possibility of that being the case, but I'll gladly own up if I'm wrong. As for the Bills' FO -- yes -- I will freely admit that I am inclined to interpret events like this as in keeping with my low opinion of them. But what's wrong with that? When EJ Manuel misses an open receiver on 3rd down, am I not allowed to feel that this failure reinforces my low opinion of him as a QB?
  20. Kulikov plays the entire season as Risto's partner. After an uneven get-acquainted period of a dozen or so games, the 2 of them play very well together for the rest of the year. Risto hits 40 pts again and Kulikov earns appreciation as a steady, tough Toni Lydman 2.0 with a bit of an edge. Casey Nelson starts the season as the 7th defenseman, but works his way into the lineup due to injury or ineffectiveness ahead of him and stays there for pretty much the entire season.
  21. Even if pot is among the best treatments, this means that there are other treatments that are presumably equally effective, right? Here's how I look at it: regardless of how wrongheaded the NFL's policy on pot may be, Seantrel took millions of dollars from his employer, fully aware that doing so meant that he wasn't allowed to smoke pot, that he would need to treat his Crohns in a different manner, that he would get suspended for smoking pot and that a suspension would hurt his team. And, like Dareus, he chose to smoke pot anyway. (Again, for the record, this opinion assumes the truthiness of Hoss' report upthread. FWIW, I generally have a high degree of confidence in Hoss' factual reporting.) Very nice. I don't disagree with any of this -- but again, the point is that Henderson, Dareus and everyone else agreed to a certain set of rules, including the consequences for breaking those rules -- and then broke them anyway because they felt like smoking pot. If the players' union wants to negotiate different terms on pot, they should do so. Until then, I don't see a moral high ground here.
  22. Do you have any family members that have Crohns disease? I do. Do you think pot is the only medical treatment for Crohns? Do you think there was a reason that Seantrel lasted until the 7th round? In the spirit of avoiding a "zero information" situation, you might check this out: http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/5/5/5683022/seantrel-henderson-marijuana-suspensions-nfl-draft I think it's clear who is "bloviating" here.
  23. Well, I based my post on Hoss' report upthread, which seemed pretty definitive. You are certainly right that he could be mistaken. Sheeeesssshh. Am I the only one who believes Hoss' reporting? As for the NFL -- I don't think I'm apologizing for it. I'm increasingly turned off by it, in fact, between the number of sociopaths it employs and my moral qualms about watching guys literally beat each others' brains in for my entertainment. But none of that excuses Seantrel for breaking the rules, IMHO.
  24. Does anyone really think Seantrel didn't know he wasn't supposed to smoke pot? Does anyone really think Seantrel needed to smoke pot for his medical condition? Give me an effing break. Whether or not pot should be permitted is beside the point. The point is that everyone knows what the rules are and most players abide by them, but some players can't be bothered to do so. This is yet another example of an undisciplined, low-character loser brought in by DW and RR acting in a me-first manner to the detriment of the team.
