The entire situation, besides the goaltender spot, was easily solved four years ago by giving O'Reilly the C and telling Jack to deal with it. Most of us knew that back then. It wasn't a tough decision. Botterill was an idiot.

I liked most of what I heard/read about.

I think we need to distinguish between "tanking," i.e., purposefully being bad, and just being bad. This isn't by design. This is the team's two best players (one of whom was a RFA) wanting out.

Whom do you think is out there who is excited to sign with Buffalo? We already have one person who thinks the Sabres failed to ask Ryan Miller. What's your big theory? Come on. The team is obviously rebuilding. A goalie who is "in career" is going to want to win. A goalie who is old wants another shot at money, thus Anderson. And a goalie seeking a second or third chance might sign. Other than that, it's Levi, UPL, and that other guy whose name I don't remember because he's never going to hit the NHL. That's not tanking and it is not trying to lose.

It's speculative crap no matter how you want to try to repackage it.

They are signing the willing, not the inexpensive.

Tell you what: If it comes out that Ryan Miller is going to be a goaltender anywhere other than NYC, LA/ANA, or Toronto (remember, the border still is closed) next season, AND that the Sabres didn't ask him to come here next season, I'll give your theory that the Sabres screwed up some credit. Until then, it's all speculative crap.

They won the pennant. The Sabres are not going to win much.

I think @Doohickiehas it right. It's a development year. They are not trying to lose.
