  1. does that mean happy or angry? Somebody should tell that board that it's Lindy fault for coaching the talent out of him. Edit: nevermind i know what you meant now (enamored)
  2. I agree with that too, i guess i dont see that toughness in Kassian. He rarely fought, and wasnt a dominating force. If I'm a fan of a team look for a cup run and I give up scoring depth (hodgson was playing very well for them) for Kassian.......I'm not happy. He's a very poor man's lucic. Maybe there werent any other options out there. Certainly it hasnt worked out for him in Van so far. They are getting clobbered and his behind is stapled to the bench.
  3. He's played 15 mins COMBINED in the first three games. He has 3 points since being traded. He's pretty awful right now. He may develop down the road, but thats what the trade was for both sides, future development.
  4. This team has been playing some of its best hockey without Goose.
  5. Mr belding. The analysis would be far more interesting had we traded roy or stafford ( lisa and kelly)
  6. Cody for Zack sounds like a trade on Saved by the Bell, and not a trade of NHL prospects. I agree. The Buffalo fan base, like many, is extremely reactionary. I think part of it is that they feel somewhat betrayed that he's gone, when theyve built him up in their minds. The old "Hey I dont need you, you suck anyway" that you say to an old gf.
  7. Great post. Youre right, we didnt see much, he obviously has potential but whether he reaches it remains to be seen.
  8. Kassian has so many attributes associated with him that he has never shown at the professional level. This is worse than the backup QB syndrome.
  9. but unlikely. When has Darcy really ever cared about public opinion. He was adamant that he get a 1st rounder and claims he had another offer. Leaked perhaps but not to sway public opinion which plays almost no role in trade deadline.
  10. Been used everywhere else too. Concept has a nice ring to it and fits the situation well.
  11. Good to know. Kotalik is far enough away in the timeline to not make me want to vomit seeing #12.
  12. Right. We gave up a "what if" for a "producing now" player. Short term, at least on paper, its a win. Although new players in Buffalo dont seem to fit in and instantly produce. I hope he doesnt wear the cursed #19
  13. Funny how that works when you step outside of the Sabres bubble. Ruff was so bad with Myers as a young kid he won the Calder. This Hodgon has an outside shot at the Calder. Interesting to see how he adapts. I heard he has been playing his best hockey as of late. Short term we are a winner, trade a high level prospect who is floundering for another high level prospect who is already prodcuing at the NHL level and fills a big need. Long term: time will tell but Hodgson's trajectory right now is better.
  14. The legend of Kassian is far greater than anything he did on the ice. Can you really say you noticed this guy out there? I know hes a prospect but he's not the bruising power forward we want him to be. He needs more time in the American league. Hodgson appears the be a more NHL ready forward and can score. Oh yea he plays center. This team needs more scoring, which is more difficult to acquire than tough guys.
  15. go daddy does the same thing every year now. They need to upgrade their talent if they want me to go to their site........
  16. Ha! Funny but sad how this is not outside the realm of possibility.
  17. If what chz says is true, i cannot say im surprised at darcy's lack of getting a trade done and that at the same time teams are balking at one of his contracts. While TCs $$ is justified from a numbers standpoint, he has baggage in terms of injuries and sporadic play. But really, has Regier made one good trade since the lockout?
  18. I think he was invovled in one where he sailed it high and wide.
  19. I dont know about defense, but Pommers the last few seasons has been in the mid teens for RWs in terms of scoring. To pay him as a top 6 RW guy thats a lot of defense. He's good defensively but no one will mistake him for a Selke trophy candidate.
  20. Bingo. Connollys is a little more difficult bc other than this year the production has been there. Contracts are set by the market. Pommers was never gonna hit the open market and we overpaid. Granted on any team you will have a few players that are overpaid, any team does, even with a great GM. Missing by a lot, like pommers is what hurts, its not wade redden/dipietro bad but its bad. Vanek is there too to some degree. Yes.
  21. He had one year of 80 points which put him in 7th spot for his position. He hasnt been in the top 10 for his position since or before. He had a good contract year for sure. I dont lose sleep over it, but it does handcuff the team when you overpay for a play like him. Pommers wasnt talking to other teams because his current contract was an extension, so it would be against CBA to do so. And he was in line to be a RFA anyway so the Sabres back wasnt against the wall because he wouldnt have hit the open market. Dont get me wrong hes a good player and puts up points. I just think, and the stats show, that we overpaid for him. There are plenty of other RWs who make less and do more, now whether we could have acquired them is a different story. Perhaps that was the thinking.
  22. Pommers contract is a joke too. St Louis has been a premier player for years, in a different class than Pommers and is making less. OK he's getting a new contract that pays him 0.3M more next year. Still doesnt make sense in relation to pommers. His stats dont support his salary. A lot of NHL contracts are front loaded so its not a joke to compare. Pommers is backloaded, slightly. Vaneks was front loaded. http://www.mynhltraderumors.com/2010/08/01/2010-2011-nhl-salaries-highest-paid-right-wingers/ You think pommers belongs at the #6 spot ? what exactly justifies that? he isnt top 10 for RW in any relevant category. He does a good job of penalty killing but so do a lot of other guys paid far less. He plays the PP but had 8 PP pts last year. i see your point with the contracts but still look at the guys on that list. How does pommers get paid above some of the other guys i didnt mention?
  23. Other guys did disappear more than him, true. How many of them are considered the core and make over $5M? For reference Pommers is making more (cap hit) than Martin St. Louis, Alfredson, Corey perry, selanne, Hossa, J. Williams. Bobby Ryan You think he's making an appropriate amount? i would take any of those guys over pommers at 5.3 any day of the week. Kane is making only 1 million more than pommers, that's outrageous. Pommers 62pts last year was good enough to place him 12th in RW scoring. His 24 goals puts him 19th among RWs. He's not even top 10 RW in terms of ice time. Yet somehow the sabres have made him the 6th highest paid RW this year.
