  1. Finally having the floor tile replaced in my main bathroom this week. They made some really good progress yesterday, and it should look pretty close to finished this evening after they do the grout. Hoping they'll be done today or tomorrow so I won't have to continue politely deflecting the handyman's overtures. <_<
  2. :w00t:   But seriously, though... WHY DO THEY DO THIS???
  3. Sorry to hear of your wife's increased health troubles, NS... prayers sent your way. My complaint: one of my bf's cats will probably need to be put down within the next few days. He's always had some issues on and off over the years, but recently had started losing a lot of weight, and after attempts with antibiotics, steroids, and a change in food failed to help, it looks like he's got some kind of GI tumor. Now comes the awful waiting period where you're forced to try and decide when it's "time" if they no longer have quality of life. Sucks.
  4. "Only" took me a month! I'm slipping. :flirt:
  5. I'm way too old to be pulling all-nighters. Also, howinthehell am I just now noticing this is the Compliant Thursdays thread?? Is someone messing with us, or has this literally gone unnoticed by everyone the whole time?
  6. Yeah, that's kind of how the baseboard and door trim replacement project has been for me. Did a bunch before moving in, then took a break. Made another push several months ago, and took another break. I'm really not that far from being done, but I lost motivation and there are more fun things to do on the weekend!
  7. Holy moly -- 8 years? I really want to do the laminate flooring myself, but I don't know if it's even feasible with furniture already in the place to try and remove carpet and lay the laminate in half of a room, move the furniture back there, then do the other half. :/
  8. The Handmaid's Tale. Only 10 episodes in the first season, and the second season begins this week.
  9. This, and also sometimes knowing how long something will take. If it's a project you *could* do yourself but it'd take 3 months inbetween work and travel or a professional could do it in 2 days, sometimes it's just worth paying the money. That's where I am for re-doing the tile floor in my bathroom; it's a small project and I probably could do it, but I've decided I'd rather pay someone to do it so my bathroom is out of commission for the shortest possible time (and I don't have to mess with learning how to use a tile saw). But to each their own! YouTube has a wealth of information on household repairs and the like.
  10. Always impressive! Digging the Lisa Frank outfit, haha.
  11. Congrats, Woody! Pics look amazing. Are you going to stay home enough to enjoy it? :P
  12. True story: Several years ago I made a candy cane fudge that my friend immediately dubbed "the cavity-maker". Biodork: Keeping dentists in business since 2005.
  13. Pretty much... it's mostly butter and sugar. :o
  14. Two thumbs up, my man. I feel like a bit of a poser still coming here and just posting in the OT threads since I hardly watch the team anymore, but I keep coming back for the people. You're like the wonderful, dysfunctional family I've (mostly) never met.
  15. :( How the heck did you tear your meniscus just walking around? That sucks, man. I don't even know what to say other than  Heavy in here today... here's hoping it's just a passing thing with his legs...
  16. I got the original version of this response in my email. :P
  17. Last Friday I was able to take a 3 day weekend for a snowboarding trip with a friend down to Taos, NM. We'd originally planned on riding there Sat./Sun., but after looking at how bad the snowpack was in that area, I started looking at other resorts we could hit along the way. We ended up going to Wolf Creek (southern CO) on Friday afternoon, and as luck would have it, they'd gotten 10" of snow the night before. Easily the best day I've ever had on a snowboard, and I finally "get it" about why people are obsessed with chasing powder. That day will sustain me through the middle of summer when I'm dreaming of snow.
  18. I didn't get a chance to post this last week, but my dad and stepmom had 3 cats and a dog (full house!). The youngest cat was somewhere between 6 and 8 years old, so an adult, but still with plenty of lifespan to go. She had always been incredibly skinny (5-6 lbs), but she was a Siamese with a small frame and had a voracious appetite, easily out-eating the other two (much larger) cats. It had gotten to the point where they had to hide any food in the kitchen because she had literally chewed through a bag of bread and eaten part of the loaf one time! And she was so very sweet and would love to curl up on your lap... probably the only cat I've ever met who never grew tired of attention like most do. And yet she was still losing weight. They took her to the vet to see if she had some kind of thyroid problem, and that test came back negative, but her white cell count was very high so the vet suggested maybe she had some kind of internal infection, gave her a 3 week course of antibiotics and a steroid shot, and told them to come back when those were done. Still she kept losing weight, and once the steroids wore off she grew increasingly weak and actually lost her appetite. When they went back to the vet, they said it felt like there was a large mass (tumor) in her liver and that she was probably not going to survive much more than a few days and recommended euthanasia. Turns out she probably had lymphoma or something all along, but no one thought to look for that because her appetite was so strong and she never "acted" sick. RIP little kitty.
  19. I've been away from SS for too long, so this is belated but CONGRATS, JO!!!! Very much deserved.
