I don't think he lived in Detroit. 1 month out is a pretty raw time still. There's no regret staying in Detroit. If it was just for work, I should have left Buffalo again 3 years ago. But maybe that's just me.

I have a new spin on this, and I would say this would keep Babcock in Detroit. His dad just died a month ago. Babcock said he talked to his dad every day after practice or a game, and he was a huge Red Wings fan. If he's already concerned about uprooting his family and if it is the right thing, wouldn't just having your dad pass focus you even more on family? Even more, if you are a tough guy, even if you were thinking change might be a good thing, wouldn't you question if you were running away from all the things that were important to him? As if there wasn't enough history already, you can throw in some guilt.

I still don't know how it's crazy. He's the best guy out there. I think some GM's are turned off because he thinks too fast and works too hard. I think that's why X figures he'd be better for vets, and I sort of agree. He has had more success than anybody in his time coaching by almost any measure. Tim Murray was the Director of Pro Player Personnel when Bylsma was a player for Anaheim....so Murray knows him, at least as a player. Who knows....Bylsma could have made fun of Ted Black when they were in Pitt together and Ted told Terry he is the devil. I see no reason to even think of Richardson when you can get the guy Richardson can only hope to be if he is a total home run.

People gave LeBron crap for being on ESPN to state his decision and he was the best player in 2 decades in a major sport. I agree...why a 20 minute interview for an indecisive babble?

The good thing sounds like Buffalo is his second choice he is mulling over. The whole thing about not rushing guys and doing it the right way......that has to be a big concern of his in Buffalo. He's going to blow a couple years here having to get the team to a point of real contention. If he goes back to winning a round or two here and there, before you know it he is 60 and just another nice coach. He's mulling over MONEY. That simple. Do you sell out your comfort and ideals? At least he's seriously thinking about Buffalo.

I just looked up the age of every coach.... 26/30 are between 50-60. The youngest is 47. Is there really an, "In their Prime"? They are all the same relative age.

Actually....our high school teacher was worse, and one of the reasons I can identify what Lindy did to Adam to get to Kassian. F'n with Kassian was his goal, but he picked on the guy with the IQ the same as his jersey number and who he knew wouldn't hit back. I would call out his mind-F's on people and he didn't like it. He threw stands at people, would belittle them.....dude....you are teaching 14-18 year olds who are trying to enjoy a hobby. At least Whiplash was the top level of the education game. I actually offered to throw a Whiplash party on Facebook to those still in the area and watch it on PPV.

This is actually a great thing. I'm sure she gave you a list of 80 things to do and reminded you 50 times about the kids because she figures you'd F something up. She can't leave town for 12 hours without handing over your entire infrastructure.... You have a free pass the rest of your life my friend. I'm almost 40 and single (shocker!)......but a little part of me wants to stage an Andy Kaufman fake wedding to a girl 7 months pregnant. This way between the wedding shower, wedding gifts, and baby shower......I can give the girl the baby stuff....craigslist the wedding shower gifts....and pocket the cash from the wedding itself. I will call in a favor and have the reception at Russell's, but have a ziti and potato buffett and a cash bar. The cards will be in the box by the time they find out. That should make up for the $30K I'm out the past 20 years going to everyone else's events........

The new NYS Anti-Smoking ad...... I think someone got fired for their attempted scare tactics that we all saw way too often during game broadcasts. The mom and dad having a dance at the side of the hospital bed......the kid trying to hang in there......that's a good guilt trip. Everyone hates the in your face stuff....we know it's not organic cucumber going into us.......at least this shows the colateral damage of your decisions.

Not really, because I think the results going forward speak for themself. Just throwing the reality of a swarm of sandflies at you as you ride that bike too close to the lake........ The guy played the game. He works as hard as anyone in preparation. He's had more success than anyone in his coaching tenure. He is relaxed enough to be a TV analyst, has no problem questioning his coach when he is a player, and is always looking to improve himself. He's also only 44 years old. My guess is that 10 years from now, wherever Bylsma ends up, he will be doing so in a Coach with Roster Power position, as a GM, or both.....but with another Cup or 2+ in tow with him.

Thanks for the discussion. I watch the 24/7 series every year and whether or not I truly can profile someone in short order.....there was enough info there to make me really like the guy. I had no idea how analytical he was until I started really digging. I think this guy is a tireless worker, a student of the game, and is always looking for an edge. I also think he is a good hearted guy that likes to have fun. The posterboy for Work Hard / Play Hard. In fact, if anything is truly keeping him an under the radar guy for current interviews, it's probably that some GM's are scared because he is so smart, motivated and balanced. Darcy would never hire this guy. I "could" see Tim Murray doing it. Like some have said....maybe he is back in NJ with Shero because Shero has the confidence in his own abilities to not be threatened and instead build an amazing team with someone. Remember too......Pitsburgh fired Shero last April, but hung onto Bylsma for months.....hanging him out to dry as other teams filled their coaching needs, THEN they fired him. You might see the same thing in Boston this year. Dirty Pool. I would love for someone to take the same interest in Babcock and let everyone know his history and performance measures, as well as the types of players he had success with. I'm not sure, but I know a local fella handed the keys to a team after the previous year's GM and Coach of the Year got fired.........
