  1. If the picks pan out, then the Sabres got the best of this deal. I have no confidence that they will though. Outside of the top handful of players in each draft (give or take a few) the draft is a crap shoot. Regier has said that they are building through the draft. I take that to mean there will be very few free agents signed. We're looking at at least 3 years before contending for a playoff spot and it is 50-50 at best that we are not in the playoffs in year 4 from now. All depends on how well the sabres draft 17 & 18 year olds and how they are at 21 or 22.
  2. It seems that the Sabres took BPA for their picks. That's fine as long we plan to suck next year, maybe that's the suffering Regier is talking about. If that is the case and their doesn't seem to be a plan to make the playoffs next year then let's trade Miller and Vanek for whatever can be gotten, have the worst record possible next year and get that first pick. However I hope the plan is not to try as hard as possible, miss the playoffs by 2 pts and get the 8th pick in the draft again. That just prolongs the suffering and serves no purpose.
  3. I was hoping for an impact offensive player to be drafted today. It seems the Sabres took the best available player with each of their first round picks that probably are at least a year away. The Amerks probably just got better on defense next year, but I'm not sure the Sabres did for the foreseeable future. Hopefully free agency will be better.
  4. I'm hoping they lose and finish last the other two possibilities perpetuate mediocrity. If they lose and finish last, there should be a change at GM. This is the only way I see them going forward and getting better. If Regier remains, he has done nothing to lead me to believe that he is capable of crafting a cup winner. If they win some games and just miss the playoffs, again Regier is still here and the organization doesn't change. They also don't get a top 3 draft choice. Mediocrity continues. They make the playoffs and lose in the first round. Meh...Why bother. It's not about making the playoffs. Again no organizational change. A midround draft pick. Mediocrity continues. Just lose out. It is the most sure way of changing the organization with the possibility of getting better and of getting to the playoffs in the next 2 years.
  5. If grigorenko is the future of the franchise, then he should be in buffalo playing, not in buffalo doing nothing and not in the Q. The power play is dead last in the NHL and he can't even get a sniff of it. It was reported that Rolston doesn't even let him practice on the power play. Rolston has grigorenko stand next to him and listen while the power play is worked on. A dead last power play and one of your most talented player can't even sniff it. On second thought maybe the kid isn't ready. Even with John Scott on his wing he only has 5 points so maybe he should go back. In the mean time Brennan and Hecht remain on the team. Wow! Just Wow!
  6. 3 years is about right given the Sabres talent level. Outside of Vanek there are no bonified top line players. Pommer and Hodgson would be better on a second line with Foligno or Ennis. Grigorenko might be some day but that might not be until midyear next year or later. We need that #1 center and another winger (Armia?). Need to fill in the 3rd line as a checking line with a dominant face off centerman (Girgenson's maybe in 2 years?). Miller's replacement needs to be part of the rebuild (no one in the organization). He needs a change of scenery and may no longer be able to do it for the sabres. Also need at least two maybe three upgrades (McNabb, Pysyk? plus) on defense to become contenders. That's a lot to put into less than three years.
  7. This team is fighting for the possibility of drafting first. They are not fighting to make the playoffs, that dream went poof. Put Grigorenko in with the top six forwards at various times and get him more minutes. Put him with Foligno, move Ennis to the wing and see what happens. Give him a couple of shifts with Vanek and/or Pommer. Put him out on the power play with Vanek, Pommer and hodgson. The Sabres have nothing to lose. They are practicing for next year. Of course maybe lightning strikes with Grigorenko and the Sabres go on a winning streak and lose the chance to draft first overall. Ok. I tried to change Pomminstein back to Pomminstein twice and it still puts in Pomminstein. I gave up and put in Pommer. :wallbash:
  8. In the post game press conference Lindy reminded me of Chan Gailey. Somewhat dazed and confused and really lacking any ideas as to why, or what to do to correct, the way the team plays. It's time for a change. I hope Lindy goes to another team and wins a Stanley Cup as he is a nice guy and a good coach. It appears that his time with Buffalo has run its course.
  9. Just one of those things you notice.... Last scene before commercial break shows walkers eating the guts of the home owner on the porch. First commercial is for Kentucky Fried Chicken.
  10. What I learned by this election: - The republican party may be dead as a national party. If they couldn't get people to vote for them after the last four years, they may never be able to. - The democrats were successful in winning a national election based on running against George Bush again. - President Obama has no plan only a far left agenda of entitlement, environmentalism above all, etc. etc. and that's just fine with more than 50% of voters. - This election was about entitlement vs. personal responsibility. Those that believe that the government must provide for all the public's needs and support that vs. the idea that each person is responsible for themselves. Entitlement clearly won. That idea will be a very difficult genie to put back in the bottle. - The US as a country is well on its way of becoming Europe west. - If President Obama continues to be unwilling to negotiate with the democrats and the republicans, the US most likely falls off the cliff. The Greece of the west. - China and Russia continue their attempts to move away from the use of the US dollar for their international transactions without the interference of a strong US leader. - President Obama continues the steady movement of the US towards socialism, reportedly his preferred form of government. - Obamacare is safe. While it provides health care for the masses. It does nothing to control costs of health care. Control the sky rocketing costs of health care and most of Obamacare isn't needed. - The media selected and elected the winners' of the elections. in the same way that music stations choose what musical artists you listen to. - The only bastion of hope for an improving situation in the US is the republican controlled house. However, President Obama has refused to negotiate and it doesn't appear that will change. - The Supreme Court may take a major swing to the left through President Obama's appointments. This may be the most damaging aspect of President Obama's socialist and entitlement legacy. A leftist leaning court may make it virtually impossible to move from an entitlement culture back to one of personal responsibility for generations.
  11. Unless Romney can build a sizable lead he has no chance of winning the election. In a close election, which this appears to be, the media will skew the "news" coverage towards pro Obama. The Obama "politics" are right in the wheelhouse of the liberal media. IN a close election the media can gently skew the coverage as to make Obama seem better to most Americans. If Romney can somehow open up a sizable lead over Obama, the media can't provide enough Obama positive coverage to close the gap without looking like they are doing so. With the lack of interest shown by most Americans in an election, the media chooses who the population votes for. If Obama wins a second term, it is very likely that the US and world economy will collapse and the US may no longer be considered the world power.
