What a cat. I read Stephen Ambrose's three volume biography. I own the Frost interview (iTunes!). I visited the Watergate complex, and read both Haldeman's Diaries and Erlichman's Witness to Power. He is a remarkably fascinating human being. Nixon was a giant, even when measured against other world leaders. Brilliant, like few are. In my lifetime, there's only Clinton in his intellect category (what irony there, eh?). Tragic, deeply flawed, dark. He was a load to be around. He plays prominent roles in other biographies I've read: Whitaker Chambers, J Edger Hoover, LBJ, Eisenhower, Truman ... He dominated the conversation for nearly 40 years, like many lightning rods do. A Greek Tragedy, with a fatally flawed hero. If you haven't, borrow the Frost interview. Nixon's firm, polite, resolute, stiff. He'd fallen by then, and America's hatred had subsided to some extent. He was humble, but unbowed. Nixon had a clumsy charm during the conversation. His capacity for recalling detail and parsing it with statutes and policies took my breath away. It was years later. Frost was masterful and prepared. America was denied a true heavyweight battle in 1968 when Johnson chose not to seek re-election. THAT would've been an election for the ages.

I voted Carter, too. You know, back in the day. A truly good man.

I voted Hubert Horatio Humphry. My grandparents told me Nixon was the devil. George Wallace made it close.

I had tickets to that game. I gave them to a client. Me and Pete Best.

Where your government allows it, yes. Of course, in other, more enlightened jurisdictions, it's not allowed because your representatives have figured out for you that you're better off with the artificially high rates associated with artificially regulated transit. Tak, tsk tsk, you dummy. Representatives explain that the experience is better because of the shields. They further explain that taxi drivers need to "earn living wages" despite lacking or not exercising living wage skills. Not finished yet, they go even further and explain that the government needs licensing revenue to provide benefits, er, rights. Oops, I keep confusing the two. 'Scuse me. We're "over" regulated does not apply to 11 year old girls working 70 hours a week in textile sweatshops nor to auto shops dumping car batteries into creeks.

Yes, reflective of the weakest electorate in recent memory. My instincts are to edit and strike "recent". "Every country has the government it deserves (Toute nation a le gouvernement qu’elle mérite)". Joseph de Maistre, 1811. "We have met the enemy and they are ours". Oliver Hazard Perry, 1813. "We have met the enemy and he is us". Pogo the Possum, 1970.

I saw the film. See it. I'll have no political comments. The heroes deserve better than me. Awesome ...

I'd be interested on the whole, but regulating soda sizes and salt servings gets to the very core of my nanny state nightmares.

Bloomberg entering could make this a once in a lifetime election. To the People's House. Imagine the rancor! Trump 37%, 205 Clinton 37%, 205 Bloomberg 26%, 128 And the Republican House says ....

Truly awesome thread idea.

This thread seems to be the best place for me to post my impressions after my recent, and first, visit to Hockey Heaven. Seemed much better than the FNC Morgue thread! I've followed the development article by article, step by step, in newspapers, talking to family and friends, and here on SabreSpace. I was unprepared for the extent and quality of development. We started at Riverworks. Very cool. We watched some bantam hockey and looked at ducks on the open water portion of the river. I'd taken my kids on a tour of South Buffalo and the first ward. My youth, my family. They'd never seen it. So much industry, now park. I tried to paint a picture of steel mills and men in taverns on payday. Gritty hands and 25 cent drafts. Awesome sauce. We drove through Caz Park. I played youth hockey on a team with Timothy Burvid. We had another kid on our team. His son is doing pretty well with the Chicago Blackhawks. Canal side is beautiful. Crisp, clean, expansive, comfortable, accessible and fun. Professional and well maintained. Available to all skills and demographics. Romance, whimsey, fun! I can "see" it in the summertime, too. My family to,d me of the picnics and concerts. A stroll toward the hotels and ice rinks at HarborCenter and ... Tim Horton. History. I told my family about reading the Currier Express the morning after he died. A boy's shock. I'm 54 and I stood next to a statue in the cold for a picture with a statue. Of course, we visited the Tim Horton's, the rinks, and 716. I envisioned larger seating areas. Not because they're necessary, but I'd read of seating capacities and the WJC. Their glorious, of course. And busy, mid day during the week. 716 was great. The television is something you see in Vegas, or at Disney. It's an attraction. We sat in a booth and watched Schopp and Bulldog. Rob Ray showed up and went on air. By now, my wife and kids are referring to "Papa's greater day ever". I have four autographs - Gil Perreault, Phil Esposito, Robert Gordon Orr, and Rob Ray. It was awesome. Lastly, Chf's. Spaghetti Parm. It was as if I'd been there yesterday. Now, the game experience is something I'm still mulling over. Detroit 3, Buffalo 0. I'm sure that influenced the mood of the arena. It was so subdued. Seats were empty. The arena's cavernous. Much of this is covered Is The other thread. Hockey Heaven - when you're an ex-pat, you say at with all the respect and affection imaginable.

I've been thinking about this. Forgive my delay, please. Traveled to Hockey Heaven, as you know. You've been on my mind. First, when I used the word "should", I referred to choices and not outcomes. Think "should" as a directive. You should do as you choose, of course. If others, or society, or authority, thinks you "should" pay more, or work less, or accept less, I'm not interested. Coercing, or confiscating, because you think someone should be less successful, or shouldn't enjoy, or keep, or leave to children is the judgment substitution that drives me nuts. So, my post - what others think I should do is, um, interesting. I respect your choice of "shoulds" as you make them. Respect mine. If I read your question correctly, though, you're using "should" as an outcome. This is a second way I hear the word. I'm very frugal, here. I'm more comfortable with wildly different outcomes than many. It's because we're wildly different people making wildly different choices. So, your education may or may not support a family. I don't believe it "should" if you mean it's sufficient, and it's the responsibility of anyone other than you to see that it does. If you believe it's your sole responsibility to support a family, and that you determined the best way to accomplish that was to invest in a master's degree, you think like I do. My masters was my first step. Armed with it, I've been in a fistfight every single day since graduation in 1989 to see that I do support my family. Lastly, "should" could be a measure of probability. Think " I'm going to work. A quarter tank of gas should be enough to get me there and back". As a measure of probability, I'd say a masters "should" support a family. I'm assuming, of course, you invested in a commercially interesting masters if you're asking about it in a commercially effective context. Your masters in prehistoric art drawings shouldn't necessarily support a family. Now, I'm a huge liberal arts guy. That'd be one very cool masters degree. My daughter studied anthropology with my encouragement. My heart sings. She is not, nor will she ever be, an anthropologist. Her investment was in herself, her passion, her interest. She's trained to think critically and write clearly. THAT should help her support a family, degree notwithstanding. Should a masters provide an income to support a family? I don't know. Tell me what you're going to do with it and who's going to pay you to do it. Addendum ... I have a liberal arts undergrad. Statistics and a whole lotta Classics. My masters is an MBA, Finance. I went joy, first, vocational, second.

Someday, it will be you .. Next time ... In the meantime, I pulled over and picked up a souvenir for you ... Below. Thanks! Enjoy it is. My daughters called it "Papa's gone to Heaven" Day. Well, we'll have to make better plans. Perhaps a Blackhawks game in Chicago. The French Connection Room ... We missed them by a few hours. I looked. Best jersey I saw ... Juri Novotny!

What everyone thinks about should and shouldn't, as it regards others, is very interesting. I reserve my shoulds shouldn'ts for me and respect your views regarding yours. You're my equal, and my judgment doesn't carry the day beyond yours.

I have returned to my home and will attend my first FNC game since 2003 (I believe). I'm starting a tour of downtown and all the changes and development. I can't wait. I'll have a beverage at 716 and I've made reservations at Chefs. Spaghetti Parm, my first in 19 years ... Go Sabres, and PM me for a drink, dinner, meet up if you're close!

That' wont make it easier for Drouin to be traded. I can't imagine the agent advised this. Instead, I see him saying "No!" and then releasing a face saving (fail) statement after the suspension. I hope that's how it played out. If the advice was to "sit out", Drouin gets bad advice.

I want video. My family thinks you should be Swedish Reality TV. MODO's Crib. PS .... Lingonberry is good on crackers, with a dab of creamed cheese.

I don't feel the Palin's antipathy some do, but your post is dead on funny. (No sarcasm; "good" funny!)

Interwebs ... I'm trying to figure out if Pi's gif is George clapping once, looped many times, or twice, looped two or more times, or ... ad infinitum.

A most remarkable start to the evening ... Palin backs Trump. Interesting, to me, with Cruz still in the mix. It may be only incrementally helpful, but it is helpful. Most Palin supporters would be receptive to Trump to begin with. More important, though, is the committed energy of her followers. I've met her. She is a rock star. We can debate her views, but not the fervent commitment of her followers. Her endorsement will assure voters get out. She's a red bull for Trump. She's a point or two in a tight race. If Trump wins Iowa and NH, he'll be hard to catch. The Inspector General's office briefed lawmakers regarding Special Access Program email found on HRC's home brew server. This is not a news report, it's an agency report. Google SAP. I had to, frankly. In short, it's our most sensitive category of intelligence. It's beyond Classified. It's beyond Top Secret. The larger point, for those that need a larger point, is that it becomes much more difficult for an FBI, a DOJ, or a President concerned with history, to look the other way. Voters may. Until today, I thought they'd get that chance. I'm not so sure they will. Which brings me to .... Donald Trump v Bernie Sanders. I'm not predicting, yet, but ... we're through the looking glass. A carnival barker v. a socialist, in 8 short years. Who knows if either story gets traction .... but, man ...

Penalty shot. Borrowing Dudacek's analysis and pairing it with the rare and unique Mano a Mano drama, penalty shot carries the day for me. I'd change my vote in a game where we had a one goal lead with under five minutes to play. In that case, the incremental probability of scoring advantage of the PS is overwhelmed by the PP's ability to score or eat clock. Could I coach?

Could've been when you said "you guys can't even tank well".
