  1. Uhm, she felt compelled to give her creds because she made the assumption I needed them for some reason. I was advising her that doing that was unnecessary. But, yeah, that's cool, I'm the big bad guy beating up on the innocent girl. Whatever. See how this happens? Her post is anecdotal and reflective. Frankly, if I were to rank posts in this thread, I would give far more credit to those with facts and data. But, even those posts are skewed with personal biases in a thread highly charged with biases. Her experiences and the conclusions she has arrived to are hers alone. Someone else with the same experiences would interpret them differently. Neither is right or wrong - none are gospel.
  2. I didn't ask for your background; it was pretty much a yes and no question. Your post is as valid as any other in this thread, and no more than that, in my opinion.
  3. Are suggesting that this is the experience and viewpoint of the average American female? As in, the majority of American females have experiences of the same intensity and drama as this? Just curious, not judging.
  4. Should this conversation be moved to the politics thread...?
  5. Where'd you get the cheddar?
  6. You'd think the former would be more true, but, my earlier point, the continued delay in anything happening makes me wonder if the latter is just as likely.
  7. I might like Colorado's, but I probably won't like the Duck's.
  8. I know we're getting tid-bits of unconfirmed information, but what Hoss reported provides a rather complete narrative at this point. I would think that if that information is accurate, we'd already see this moving on to formal charges, the district attorney, a grand jury...something. The fact that it appears all things are stalled at this point suggests, to me, that there is yet more to the narrative than what we have so far.
  9. He's all red because his skin is gone. Totally realistic.
  10. While I personally agree with you, if the tenor of this thread is any indication, it would seem too many people will disagree.
  11. It's always the goalie who comes in with high expectations. Lehner is absolutely that guy.
  12. I think a "decent NHL starter" is a fair equivalent...IF this trade were to have occurred in a vacuum. However, considering there were other NHL starters available at less cost, there is still that veteran D slot to fill, and this team is coming off a tear-down where the slate was blank and there's no specific model to follow, I believe it's not-unreasonable to place the baseline for this trade at a Ryan-Miller-career-equivalent level. As it is, I think Sabres fans are goalie-spoiled, excepting the time since Miller was traded. We have simply had good to better-than-good goal-tending for a long time. For whatever reason, the Lehner trade seems to slide right into that mold.
  13. How can you not like the first Captain America? I thought it nearly on par with the first Ironman. The latest Avengers was just...too much packed into one movie. I liked it, but it came off superficial compared to something like Cap 2, which is one of my favorites from Marvel. Saw Inside Out, finally. I am a Pixar fan, and this had its moments, not unlike Wall-E, but it wasn't as clever as Wall-E, in my opinion, and no where close to their best. Pixar's best is The Incredibles. FWIW, consider this a PSA: unless it's a movie I'm really excited about, for which I'll pay full price at the AMC, I wait until films make it to the Four Seasons in the Falls. The price is right, I dig the retro 70's vibe, and their popcorn is the best theater popcorn in the region.
  14. I understand these threads are to kill time in the off-season, this particular off-season makes them all that much more difficult to handle. The chemistry between all of these players and thier new coaching staff will be a major factor in how these guys play, or are perceived, as individuals. Anyway, I, too, really dig the second line/Peca analogue. I agree with TBPhD that he lacks the natural scoring talent to be a "first liner", but all other signs point toward high end second liner. I like to think that on a contender, his line would be as dynamic and fun to watch as a true scoring line on the same team, but, obviously, bringing something different to the game than that scoring line.
  15. The obvious one for LTS is LSD. You people, sometimes I don't know where your heads are at.
  16. I guess I could call some craft beers I've had swill, or, at least, refer to them as "craft beers". Speaking of, I finally had some Otter Creek recently. Not that I would call it swill, but it didn't really leave me wanting to buy more. This is the thread that keeps on giving...I didn't know about Gordon Biersch, that they make a good lager, and that there's one down the highway. I love lagers. I used to take swigs of my grandmother's beer, and that's what she drank. Anyway, fast forward to sometime in the past decade, I had Great Lake's Dortmunder Gold. I have yet to find a better lager, but, to be honest, I've been caught up in IPAs.
  17. I like Mighty. But, maybe, like once or twice a year. It is truly awful "Mexican" food, though.
  18. I assume the lawyers involved can somehow suppress the release of information until both sides formally agree (or disagree) on the next step. If, say, they're working on a settlement, the release of any information prior to agreeing on a settlement could harm one or more of the parties involved. In other news, I just heard WBEN call Kane a suspect, which I would think at this point is premature and perhaps worthy of a call from Kane's legal team.
  19. As long as it takes to allow all sides to figure out what the next move will be.
  20. Well, I think some people are acting like all girls under 18 are repulsed and traumatized by "having sex", which isn't true. So, the fact that there are girls out there who are looking and makes it difficult for younger men to make an appropriate judgment makes matter cloudy, IMHO. And I'm not talking about Kane at this point, it seems we've moved beyond talking about his situation specifically. Anyway, clearly I understand and respect the law as it is, however there can be situations, like anything in life, where conforming to the law isn't in reality a black and white, cut and dry matter. Without having any research to back up the thought, it would seem to me that perhaps one reason female jurors could be hard to convince in cases like this is because they know what it's like to be that age and female, and that not all females walk the line right down the middle. Just like, as a male, I know exactly what it was like to be in my late teens and, honestly, I don't know how much of the benefit of the doubt I could give a dude. Did society freak out when Fast Times at Ridgemont High was released? I was too young.
  21. There are girls under 18 who like to have sex and look older than 18.
  22. What? I'm making a prediction, not trying to dictate anything. How can you possibly infer otherwise? Right! Thank you.
  23. It doesn't mean that "she" was, either. And, again, what is that something? Frankly, I have a scenario in my head that would cause this thread to explode, maybe, but is perfectly reasonable and logical - as much as logic can be applied to a narrative along these lines. But I don't wish to cause the thread to explode. When there are details, when (or if) the police, or whatever official body, confirm that the complaint has merit, that there is enough evidence to charge the accused, then the tenor of this thread will change. But for now we have a story made up of small fragments some of which we can not even reasonably accept as true, yet. The so-called victim is nothing right now but a construct of this thread. All of that may change, but, for now it's conjecture; the person you have empathy for may not exist.
  24. Color me shocked at the lack of reason here. A "verified complaint" is nothing more than that - the police have a piece of paper with words on it that read as an accusation against someone. The investigation is about verifying whether the complaint has merit and whether there are grounds for charges. Even at that point, the "victim" is technically an "alleged victim" until the court determines whether the accused is guilty of the charges or not. Then, and only then, does the "alleged victim" become a "victim" in a technical sense. There is a long and sordid history of why the legal system is set up this way.
